Project Guidelines
(2018-2019)
Class: XI (ISC)

Project Topics:
(Choose any one topic)
 Overpopulation
 Child Labour
 Juvenile Delinquency
 Problems of the Aged
 Problems of the Differently Abled

General Instructions:
 Use of a transparent A4 size file
 Interleaf paper only
 Entire project to be hand-written, not printed, in black ink only
 A narrow margin to be drawn on the right hand side of every page
 Neat and legible handwriting with absolutely no cancellations
 The introduction must consist of exactly 20 pages (A general overview of the chosen topic)
 Use of pictures and coloured pens is not permitted
 The Cover Page must have the School Logo, Student’s full name, Class-Div, Roll No.,
Subject, Topic and Academic year (2 copies)

Introduction: A 20-page introduction with details on the chosen topic
Statement of Purpose:
 Must be written in third person
 Must be brief and specify the reason as to why the researcher has chosen the particular topic

Choice of technique:
 Must include either a primary data collection method (Questionnaire/ Interview) or
secondary data collection method (Case Study)

Hypothesis:
 Must be framed in a way that best suits the choice of technique.
 A questionnaire method always implies an opinion or perspective of a person or a group of
people. (Eg: The youth of India believe that arranged marriages are better than love
marriages)
 A case study method involves a generalization. (Eg: Most youth today are opting for
arranged marriages)
 A hypothesis proven wrong does not imply that the research was null and void

Framing of a Questionnaire:
 Must consist of exactly 15 statements
 There must be 3 domains, comprising of 5 statements each
 Both negatively and positively framed statements must be included
 The sample size is 10
 A comparative study, though not compulsory, is encouraged.

Results:
 The results must be tabulated on a standardised scoring sheet.
 2 Graphs/ Pie Diagrams must be prepared (1. Overall results 2. Domains)
 The graphs/ pie diagrams must be neatly drawn/ printed and well explained

Detailed Procedure:
 A weekly log must be maintained, so as to easily recollect the entire process of research
work and its completion
 It must be at least 2 pages

Limitations:
 Besides the general limitations, at least 4 specific and individual limitations must be
mentioned

Conclusion:
 Must tie up and summarize the entire research work
 Not less than 2 pages

Bibliography:
 Separate for Web and Book
 Web format: Website, Article name, Date.
 Book format: Book name, Author, Publisher, Edition.
 Newspaper: Newspaper name, Article name, Byline, Date.

Mark allocation per study will be as follows:


Statement of Purpose 1 mark
Overall format 1 mark
Hypothesis 1 mark

Viva-voce based on the study 4 marks
TOTAL 15 Marks
