SM LITTLE STARS 2019

Contest Duration: April 6 – June 2, 2019

CONTEST MECHANICS

1. Every individual boy or girl, four (4) to seven (7) years old, talented, photogenic / telegenic, cute
& charming and with pleasing personality is eligible to join the SM Little Stars competition.

2. The following are not eligible to join the SM Little Stars competition:

a. Winners or placers from other similar contests within the duration of the previous
calendar year until the current calendar year, of any company/sponsor and its
affiliates with the same line of business or industry or in conflict with the business or
industry of SM Supermalls and SM Retail Affiliates (SM Store, SM Markets and Toy
Kingdom only)

b. Boys and girls who have been contracted in any form or made arrangements (verbal
or written) or of whatever nature by a print publication, TV network, talent
management agency, or movie outfit whose photo, appearance or performance will
be printed, published, aired or shown (e.g. print advertisement, TV show, feature
and/or advertisement or digital feature and/or advertisement) during the contest
period from the Preliminary Screening, Regional Finals, Grand Finals and up to the last
online airing date of SM Little Stars 2019 Grand Finals.

c. Boys and girls who have any commercial arrangement with any publication, talent or
advertising outfit or of similar kind whose appearance or performance will be printed,
published, aired or shown during the contest period from the Preliminary Screening,
Regional Finals, Grand Finals and up to the last online airing date of SM Little Stars
2019 Grand Finals.

d. The top ten (10) winners from the previous years of the competition.

Any contestant found to be in violation of the foregoing eligibility shall immediately be

disqualified from the contest at any stage, and/or shall have forfeited his/her prizes and title.
Decision on eligibility and violation of this rule shall be final.

3. The application form can be downloaded from the SM Little Stars official website,
www.smlittlestars.com.ph. It will also be available at the Mall Administration Office (Marketing
Department) at any SM mall branches.

4. To join the contest, the following must be submitted to the Mall Administration Office (pre-
registration) or to the official event organizer during the Preliminary Screening schedule:
a. Application Form – completely filled-up and signed by the parent/s (exercising
parental authority) or guardian with appropriate authorization from the parent/s
(exercising parental authority) of the contestant
b. Original & photocopy of the contestant’s birth certificate (original copy will be
returned after proper verification of the photocopy)
c. Two (2) copies of 4R size photo of the contestant taken with light make-up only: one
(1) close up shot and one (1) whole body shot
5. Schedule of submission of the application form and requirements will be as follows:
a. Pre-registration will start on February 28, 2018, 10am to 6pm. Deadline of submission
will vary depending on the contestant’s preferred schedule and/or venue of the
Preliminary Screenings:

NOTE: Preliminary Screening proper will start at 2:30pm; cut-off time for on-the-spot
registration will be at 2pm.

6. For on-the-day registrants, the mall branch where his/her application form and requirements will
be submitted shall automatically be the contestant’s audition venue.

7. The contestant and the accompanying parent/s or guardian must be at the audition venue thirty
(30) minutes before the start of the Preliminary Screenings (2:30pm) for the briefing. Failure to
arrive on time for the program proper and/or absence during the competition schedule shall be a
ground for disqualification of the contestant.

8. A pre-registered contestant must present the registration stub before the start of the Preliminary
Screenings in the mall audition venue and schedule specified in the submitted application form.
On-the-day registrants must secure their queuing number upon submission of the complete
requirements.

9. During the Preliminary Screening, each individual contestant will present his or her talent onstage.
Light make-up with no red lipstick. The contestant should wear child-appropriate clothing, use
kid-friendly music and lyrics and will not be allowed to use props. This will be strictly implemented
during the Preliminary Screenings of the competition.

10. Each contestant will be given only a maximum of ONE (1) minute to perform his/her talent
onstage. The judge/s has the right to stop a performance if deemed necessary during the one (1)
minute time limit. The decision of the judges with the concurrence of DTI is final. Any
performance running over the maximum limit will constitute ground for disqualification. The
decision of the judges on this matter with the concurrence of DTI is final.

11. Each individual contestant shall choose ONE talent from the three (3) talent categories: SINGING,
DANCING and SPECIAL TALENT and shall perform the chosen talent at every stage of the
competition (Preliminary Screening, Regional Finals and Grand Finals). Below are the ONLY
allowed performances under Special Talent category:

ACROBATICS PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT*

*The instrument must be provided by the contestant, including the freight and tuning costs that may incur

12. The rules & regulations for props will be as follows:

12.1 The following stage props are STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED during the talent
performance in the Preliminary Screening, Regional Finals and Grand Finals:
 a. Cane, gun, balls, box, banner, backdrop, fire-related / flammable
material, or any similar material inappropriate, hazardous or poses
risk to the contestant and to others
b. Batons, machetes, knives, and other pointed objects
c. Smoke or smoke-effect, balloons or confetti
d. Real food
e. Live animals
f. Products with competitive branding

12.2 No props during the Preliminary Screenings, except the following:

a. Table (maximum measurement of 4 feet long and 1.5 feet wide),

chair, lyric stand or microphone stand or any form of device used in
playing a musical instrument; mat for dance or gymnastics; or similar
item necessary for the delivery of the talent performance.

12.3 Props will ONLY be allowed during the talent performance in the Regional Finals
and Grand Finals.

12.4 Special effects and lighting requirements during the talent performance are not
allowed

Any violation pertaining to stage props shall constitute ground for disqualification of the individual
contestant.

 c. The criteria for judging for the Preliminary Screenings will be as follows:

d. A contestant who did not qualify for a particular mall branch may still join in
the succeeding schedule of the Preliminary Screenings in other SM mall
branches. A new set of application form and requirements must be submitted
to the Mall Administration Office or to the official event organizer.

e. During the Preliminary Screening, to accommodate the volume of participants,

each individual contestant (along with parent/guardian) will be required to
vacate the screening area after his/her talent performance.

f. Those who will qualify for the Regional Finals after the Preliminary Screening
will be announced online via www.smlittlestars.com.ph at about three (3)
days after the scheduled Preliminary screening of each participating mall.
SCMC Marketing shall inform all the winners via phone call. The list will also
be posted in the official Facebook page of the SM Supermalls where the
Preliminary Screening was conducted.

13.2 REGIONAL FINALS

a. The contestants who qualify for the Regional Finals of the competition have
the option to attend the workshop. The schedule and venue of the workshop
will be as follows:
I. Regional Finalists: June 22, 29; July 6, 13 | 10am-2pm at the mall where
the cluster’s Regional Finals will be conducted.

b. The Regional Finals will be held at the following SM mall branches:

f. The transportation, hotel accommodation and other logistical costs to be

incurred by the contestant during the Regional Finals must be shouldered by
the parent/guardian.

13.3 GRAND FINALS

a. The contestants who qualify for the Grand Finals of the competition will be
required to attend the workshop. The schedule and venue of the workshop
will be as follows:

i. Grand Finalists: August 16, 2019 | 9am-5pm at the Mall of Asia Arena
Annex Building
b. Each Grand Finalist will choose from the approved list of songs provided by
the official event organizer to be used during the Grand Finals. The choice of
music will be on a first come, first serve basis. No duplication of songs will be
allowed.

c. Each Grand Finalist will be given only a maximum of ONE (1) minute to
perform his/her talent onstage.

d. SM Supermalls will shoulder the hotel accommodations of the thirty (30)

grand finalists with one (1) parent or guardian per contestant to compete for
the Grand Finals.

e. The Grand Finals and the awarding of prizes will be held on August 17, 2019
(2pm-5pm) at the SM Cinema Center Stage, SM Mall of Asia

f. During the entire contest period:

a. The contestants must be accompanied by any of the parents. If the

contestant will be accompanied by a guardian, the following must be
submitted:
i. A written authorization signed by both or one of the parents
ii. A copy of the valid identification card (ID) of the guardian and the
parent/s authorizing him/her
b. The parent or guardian must be responsible for the behavior, safety and
welfare of the contestant, their personal belongings, and costs to be
incurred due to their participation in the contest.

g. The contestant and parent or guardian will be required to:

a. Follow the instructions of the SM Little Stars’ official event organizer,

trainers, and instructors at all times

b. Abide by the General Rules and Regulation of the contest

i. SM Supermalls, Shopping Center Management Corporation
(SCMC), its event organizers, trainers and instructors shall not be
held responsible or liable for any accidents, injuries, harm, or loss
of property suffered during the contest period, training or
workshops, resulting from negligence, violation or failure to
abide by the contest’s rules and regulations.

h. The Grand Finals will be held at:

• Php3,000 worth of Toy Kingdom Gift Cards

a. The Grand Prize of Chevrolet Sail MT and Gift Certificates are transferable but not
convertible to cash.
b. The artist management contracts are not transferable and not convertible to cash.
The winners are eligible up to five (5) years contract and subject to the terms and
conditions of Regal Entertainment, Inc.
c. The college scholarship grant that will be awarded to the top ten (10) grand finalists
of the competition are transferable but not convertible to cash. The registration at
National University after the Grand Finals shall be the responsibility of the
parent/guardian.
d. The trip to China that will be awarded to the top ten (10) grand finalists of the
competition will be scheduled within the year 2020, wherein they will appear and
selected winners will perform during the SM Little Stars at selected SM China malls.
i. All travel requirements, taxes, airfare expenses, food, transportation and hotel
accommodation in China, excluding the passport application of the grand
finalists and their accompanying parent or guardian, will be shouldered by SM
Supermalls, provided the contestants and their chosen companion have
submitted the supporting documents for China VISA application within the
deadline set by SM Supermalls.
ii. The Philippines shall be the country of origin in going to China.
iii. Failure to submit foregoing requirements and unavailability to join the trip shall
constitute waiver of the winners to travel to China
e. The twenty percent (20%) prize tax shall be shouldered by SM Supermalls, except for
the grand prize of Chevrolet Sail MT, which shall be shouldered by the grand winners.
f. Expenses for LTO registration and car insurance shall be shouldered by the grand
winners.
g. All cash prizes shall be paid in check in the name of the parent/guardian.
h. All judges’ decision with concurrence of DTI is considered final.
i. Employees of Shopping Center Management Corporation (SCMC), their affiliates,
sponsors, organizers, advertising agencies, and judges, including their relatives up to
third degree of consanguinity or affinity, are not eligible to join this promotion.
j. Any violation of the contest mechanics with the concurrence of DTI shall be a ground
for disqualification.
