Identification of Rice
Type and Quality ( Oryza sativa ) Based on Color and Shape Analysis Using
Image Processing Technology and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN).

SUMMARY

One factor that influences the quality of products is color and shape. Color
and shape factors are used as one of the parameters that are most considered in
the selection of a product, one of which is rice. The government, through the
National Standardization Agency (BSN) in 2015, has set the standard for rice
bleaching into four quality classes, namely premium, medium I , medium II and
medium III . P enentuan quality rice quality currently it can be said to be less
good , this is influenced by the lack of knowledge of producers and consumers on
the type and quality of rice . How to identify the quality of rice is done manually by
observing directly the physical form of rice . The weakness of manual
identification is strongly influenced by the subjectivity so that the result of
identification obtained is inconsistent. Utilization and modeling of artificial neural
networks (ANN) can be an alternative solution in identifying the type and quality
of rice. The parameters used are the colors and shapes that include the Red ,
Green , Blue color models Hue , Saturation , Value colors . Form parameters
include area value, perimeter, roundness and compactness . Furthermore, it was
arranged in the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) with a training algorithm using the
Backpropagation method . This study aims to create a system for identifying the
type and quality of rice. From this study, there were two programs with different
classes of three and 12. The three-class program showed detection results in the
form of rice varieties with the highest accuracy in training using quality image
data of Medium I. Accuracy obtained was 100% with hidden variations layer 17,
learning rate is 0.5 and the amount of data is 78. While in the 12 class program
shows the results of detection of detailed varieties with their quality. Accuracy
obtained amounted to 21.7228% with variations of 15 hidden layer, learning rate
is 0.01 and the amount of data a number of 267. Both use the activation function
tansig and training fuction use Error goal trainlm with 0,001.
