Steps to Taking Apart a Computer

Model: HP Compaq dc7800 SFF Desktop Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz 8GB 500GB

Step 1: Push the side buttons and take side panel off of the computer.

Step 2: locate unscrew and Take out the PCI

Step 3: locate and unplug the ATX, PCI cord from the motherboard

Step 4: unplug SATA DATA and SATA Power cords and unscrew and Take out the DVD drive.

Step 5: remove drive bay by sliding up and pulling it out of the case

Step 6: remove the CPU power cable from the motherboard (usually located near the CPU)

Step 7: unplug SATA DATA and SATA Power cords from the back of the HDD drive

Step 8: Unclip RAM and carefully remove (don’t touch pins)

Step 9: Hold the green lever down and slide hard drive backwards, then proceeding to lift it up.

Step 10: Unplug the fan power cables from the motherboard

Step 11: Unplug the frontal USB, sound jack, ON OFF button power cables

Step 12: Take out the GPU by unclipping the PCU cover and pulling the GPU out of its socket

Step 13: Remove the CPU fan/heat sink from the CPU by unscrewing it(this is the largest fan on
the motherboard)

Step 14: Unscrew the motherboard and take it out then take out the motherboard supports.

Step 15: remove the CPU (don’t touch the bottom pins if you do you can damage the pins/

Step 16: unscrew and remove the back panel

Step 17: Take off the io/PCI cover in the back of the computer

Step 18:Take off the front panel

Step 19: unscrew and remove the case fan, then proceed to unscrew the four screws on the
case fan to separate the
Step 20: unscrew and remove the speaker, on off button, and the USB and headphone jacks
from the front of the case

Step 21: take off the northbridge chip heat sink by un cliping the clips.

The parts of the computer

1) Motherboard
The motherboard one of the most important parts of the computer. The motherboard helps with
the transfer of data throughout the various parts of the computer via lots of cords. It is also in
charge of directing power through the computer. This also means that it helps to keep parts
from short circuiting. It basically allows all of the parts to communicate with each other. It is also
where many parts are located. Some of these parts include the GPC, CPU, IO, NB chip, SB
chip, and RAM.

2) RAM
type-DDR2 2GB
Memory or RAM (random access memory) is used for temporary storage. This includes
anything that is not being downloaded such as a google page or a website. The more RAM you
have in your computer the faster games and other things like this will load. RAM sizes are
judged by MHZ and GB. mhz is the speed with witch RAM records data. The RAM records data
in GB and MB (gigabytes and megabytes) it saves temporary data to micro chips. The slots
where you put the RAM are located on the motherboard. The shiny gold parts are the pins, the
pins are what transfer data the more pins the faster your data will transfer.

3) Hard Drive
The Hard Drive is a component that stores all of your digital data. The Hard Drive stores all of
your documents, pictures, programs, videos, etc. Hard Drives can be internal and external.
Everything on a hard drive is measured by its file size. The Hard Drive determines the file size in
terms of megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), and terabytes (TB). the other type of storage device
is SSD(solid state drive). In short this is a faster and more reliable choice of storage device.

3) CPU
Type-intel core 2 duo 3.00ghz
The CPU is the main processor. A processor processes data this means that everything that
you do on your computer goes through this one chip. Because of this processors are usually
very expensive. There are 2 main brands in the world of processors these brands are AMD and
Intel. The processor is located in a little square shaped port. The micro chip itself is located
under the metal cover on the circuit board. This microchip contains all of the wiring cores ect…

Power supply
type:
The power supply supplies power to everything in the computer. Why is it so big and bulkie you
might ask-well if you know anything about power then you know that there are 2 kinds of power,
AC and DC. AC power is what comes out of your wall outlets but AC power is too strong for a
computer. DC on the other hand is perfect for a computers parts. In short a power supply
converts AC to DC power.

4) DVD Drive
The DVD Drive is most commonly used for storing large software applications. The DVD Drive
or DVD-ROM stores around 4.38 gigabytes (GB) of data. These data files are permanently
stored and cannot be changed or erased. It does all of this by saving all of the data to a DVD or
CD.

ON OFF button
The on off button is pretty self explanatory. This little button allows you to turn your computer on
and off.

Speaker
the speaker is also very self explanatory. This little thing transfers
