J: Good afternoon Doctors, Professors and to our Panel!

I am Jethro Nevalga,
a third-year clinician, together with my co-researchers. *let them introduce
themselves* Nicole, Pearl, Shunn, and our co-authors Dr. Evangeline Parati
& Dr. Maria Teresa David. Today we are presenting to you our proposal of
our study with the title: ASSESSMENT OF THE AWARENESS IN
MANAGEMENT OF HIV PATIENTS IN CLINCAL PRACTICE AMONG
DENTAL CLINICIANS IN UPH-DJGTMU. Let’s begin.
J: For our Discussion Overview, we will present to you our Introduction,
Statement of the Problem, Statement of Hypothesis, Assumption of our
study, Objective of the study, Significance of the Study, Scope and
Limitation, Review of Related Literature and Methodology. Let’s go through
it one by one.
J: Over the past 30 years, an epidemic defined the history of mankind. An
epidemic that is widely believed that have crossed species from
chimpanzees to humans. It is unknown up until 1980’s- the Human
Immunodeficiency Virus is discovered.
Human Immunodeficiency Virus or known as HIV, is a severe health issue
all over the world. It attacks cells in the immune system, which is our
body’s natural defense against illness. It infects the white blood cells.
It interferes with your body's ability to fight the organisms that cause
disease and is usually a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Thus, without
medication, it may take years before HIV weakens your immune system to
the point that you have AIDS. Which left us a question, what is AIDS?
N:
P: Awareness in HIV is important because there are already thousands of
people infected and children are being orphaned because of HIV/AIDS. Not
everyone in a community business or organization has a knowledge about
HIV. Being aware can carry out effective clinical management, we dental
students / practitioners need to be aware of and understand the
significance of HIV/AIDS.
S:
N:
J: For our educated guess, that the students of UPH-DJGTMU are aware on
how to manage patients with HIV in clinical practice.
P: Despite of being aware there are still some students of UPH-DJGTMU do
not know the proper management of patients with HIV and they need to
widen their knowledge about it especially in clinical practice.
S:
P: basahin ko nalang self explanatory.
J: The researchers has set the following objectives to the study, the General
and heart of the objective of this study is to ANALYZE the awareness of the
clinicians of the college of Dentistry in UPH-DJGTMU in management of
HIV patients. The researchers sought answers to whether or not the
clinicians are prepared for situations if chances are presented to them.
In addition, Sub Objectives are set also. These are: To define HIV, to seek
answer to the main problem of the study, to describe the significance of
awareness in management of HIV, why is it important to know? And lastly
is to assess the awareness of the 3rd year dental clinicians in UPH-
DJGTMU. As they are the upcoming seniors of the dental infirmary and the
one that will manage the whole clinic next year.
S:
N:
P: First part is Definition of terms, the second part is ‘what is HIV?’ as we have
defined a while ago HIV is a severe health issue all over the world, that
attacks cell in our immune system which interferes our body’s ability to
fight against organisms that cause disease. And the 3 rd part is again as we
discussed a while ago being aware can carry out effective clinical
management, we dental students/dental practitioner need to be aware of
and understand the significance of HIV especially in our practice.
S:
N:
J: Let’s proceed to Oral Lesions, may form individually or multiple lesions
may appear at the same time. According to Oral science Oral Lesion is an
ulcer that occurs on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity. They are
very common, occurring in association with many diseases and by many
different mechanisms. They can be recognized by a break in the skin or
mucous membrane with loss of surface tissue and the disintegration and
necrosis of epithelial tissue.
Some manifestations of HIV are: Oral Ulceration Idiopathic
Thrombocytopenic Purpura Xerostomia.

N:
J: To have a brief recap of our thesis proposal we have discussed the
following:

Statement of the Problem- Shunn

Statement of Hypothesis- Nicole

Assumption of the Study- Pearl

In this part we discussed the things that we predicted that will give us a
more accurate result in our study.

Objective of the Study- Jethro

In this we have discussed the following objectives that the researchers
have set. It is important to fulfill these objectives as it will give us the
answer the effectiveness of the study.

Significance of the Study- Shunn

Scope and Limitations- Jethro

Everything has limitations, that is why this study is conducted and is
limited to HIV diseases only and no other diseases are focused after. The
researchers have chosen the Third-year students as they will be the next
batch of organizing committee of the dental infirmary. They will be the one
who will manage and if situations come up, they will be prepared.

Review of Related Literature- Pearl

The literature and studies cited in this chapter tackle the different
concept, understanding, and ideas, generalization or conclusions and
different development related to HIV.
Methodology- Nicole

J: Thank you panel, once again we are presenting to you our study with the
title: ASSESSMENT OF THE AWARENESS IN MANAGEMENT OF HIV
PATIENTS IN CLINCAL PRACTICE AMONG DENTAL CLINICIANS IN UPH-
DJGTMU. Good afternoon!
