CHILDREN´S RIGHTS

First children's right is the right to protection from work that threatens their
health, education or development. This one is ratified by the article number thirty-
two in the Convention on the Rights of the Child where it says that the government
should protect children from work that is dangerous or might harm their health or
their education and jeopardize any of their other rights.
A clear example of children labour happens in clothing factories in eastern China.
These companies are using child labour from to reduce costs, paying them less than
half a salary. A 15-year-old worker from Yunnan province said to the media that he
starts working at 7am and never finishes before 10pm. Also said that the boss beats
him if he “misbehaves”, and that he and his co-workers don’t get paid until the end of
the year, and won’t be paid at all if they leave the job before then.
Although the Chinese government is refusing to accept statistics from
international entities, the UNICEF community of China is doing the minimum
allowed to support the victims. They provide in public spaces health and phyco-social
services to reintegrate kids to normal habits, and establish safe ways for children to
report violence, such as telephone hotlines.
Forth children's right is about the right to protection in times of war. This is
ratified by the article number thirty-eight where it says that governments
must do everything they can to protect and care for children affected by war
and those under eighteen years old shouldn't be forced to take part in a war
or join the armed forces. Although the 99% of countries ratify to the
Convention on the Rights of the Child, there are many of them that violate this
right, leaving behind children and families to focus on war.
The wars in Syria and Yemen are only examples where the very basic principle of
protection of children is being disregarded every single minute of every single day.
Children have paid the heaviest price in the conflict, and their suffering has hit rock
bottom in a drastic escalation of violence, leaving more than 100.000 dead children
this year. More than 5 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance, with
almost half forced to flee their homes.
UNICEF and it’s paterns are giving services for Syrian families and keeping
Syrian children from becoming a lost generation. They are helping them in the life-
saving areas of health, nutrition, immunization, water and sanitation and education.
UNICEF is also working in neighboring countries to support Syrian refugee families.
