The above figure shows the commencement of excavation works where 1 st top layer is being
excavated. Before commencement all other accessories like safety block, hand rails, ladder have
been installed.
After excavating 1st layer we will install Strut H-beam for providing support against soil collapsing.
To construct the structure we will provide sufficient mechanical jack for making it stable. All the
sheet piles will be interlocked.
Above figure shows the installation of 1st layer of Strut H-Beam. For installing 1st layer earth will be
excavated up to 1.5m by means of excavator.
After ensuring installation of 1st layer H-Beam earth excavation will start again up to 2nd layer of
Strut H-Beam installation. Work will be carried out day and night providing safety block and
bollards.
Figure showed above describes about further excavation by means of excavator up to 3.7m. Then
2nd layer of Strut H-beam will be installed.
In the figure details about installation of 2nd layer of H-beam is shown. These Strut H-beam will be
set on welded bracket. Excavator can excavate this length only. Further excavation will be done
manually.
Figure 6 shows the excavation procedure when excavator cannot excavate more. In that case
laborers will excavate and a crane will lift the excavated materials up to dump truck by means of
bucket.
3) Installation of shoring
a) Marking of welding position of bracket using by level machine, and welding of bracket
b) Pre-fabrication of each waling H-beam using joint plate
c) Installation of waling H-beam using by 10ton Rough Terrain Crane

e) Installation of angle brace by bolts and nuts strongly
f) Filling of the clearance between waling back and sheet pile
The column so formed can have diameters ranging from 0.5m to 1m and the lengths up to
25m.The columns can also be interlocked to provide cellular structure of in-situ wall or the entire
mass can be stabilized. Dry mixing is a highly effective ground treatment system used to improve
the load performance of soft soils. By varying the proportion of lime, cement and admixtures, a
range of strength gains can be achieved. The greatest improvements can be achieved in inorganic
soils with low moisture content.
The original technique known internationally as the deep mixing method (DMM) was developed
simultaneously in Sweden and Japan in the mid- 1970s. Now, DMM is a ground treatment,
improvement, and support method of global application and increasing popularity and value.
Compared with other similar ground improvement methods, the deep mixing method (DMM) is
the method specially designed to treat the soft Soils. DMM are divided into three systems namely,
Deep mixing method is an in-situ soil treatment Technology where by the soil is blended with
cementitious and/or other materials. The deep mixing method is often classified into two
methods: dry and wet method, based on the type of binder, the mechanism of bleeding in rotary

Contract No: CWSISP/W-5 March- 2019
or jet assisted, and the vertical extent over which blending is accomplished. The former utilizes
the dry powdered binder whereas the latter utilizes the water-binder slurry. Naturally, there are
some differences in the execution machines between dry and wet methods. However, there is no
substantial difference in the characteristics of treated soils between them. The apparent difference
in the design procedure and application comes from the purpose of improvement, which in turn
gives rise to the difference in the installation patterns and in the order of strength required.
Deep mixing method emphasizes on column type techniques using lime/cement. It is a soil
improvement method, which is performed to improve the strength, deformation properties and
hydraulic conductivity of the soil. It is based on mixing binders, such as cement, lime, fly ash and
other additives, with the soil by the use of rotating mixing tools in order to form columns of a
hardening material since pozzolanic reactions between the binder and the soil grains are
developed. The main advantage of these methods is the long-term increase in strength. Pozzolanic
reaction can continue for months or even years after mixing, resulting in the increase in strength
of cement stabilized soil with the increase in curing time. No need to have soil stabilization, if found
medium hard clay of soil layer.

After installing rectangular steel casing pipe, DI pipe will be pushed through that pipe by crane. As
we have to cross only 6m due to Rail Crossing it won’t be difficult to insert pipe in the casing by
crane. But before inserting pipe following activities will be done:
a. Specified personnel will be appointed to ensure no damages to pipe body and coating during
crossing.
b. The casing pipe will be joined in strict accordance with requirements and standards.
Above figure shows about installing pipe in launching shaft. It will be joined with under laid pipe
without any bend.
The above figure shows the final position of pipes after being installed. After installing all the sheet
piles, H beams, mechanical jack will be removed. Then launching shaft and arrival shaft will be
backfilled as per contract details.
After laying of the pipes, the trench shall be back filled up to 600 mm above the crown of the pipe.
The backfilling shall continue up to 600 mm above the crown of the pipe with saturated river sand
free from silt, clay, fine dust and organic impurities and shall have a fineness modulus of 2.0The
material shall be placed in layers not more than 150 mm thick and carefully compacted using
compactor at the sides of the pipe. Compaction for main backfill shall be carried out by mechanical
or neumaticrollers, vibrating plate compactor. Each layer shall be compacted separately.
Compaction shall be not less than 97% modified Proctor (or as specified in the Particular
Specifications). Where necessary, the moisture content of the refill material will be adjusted to assist
the compaction either by drying out or by sprinkling with water. Adequate number of power
tampers or other compaction equipment approved by engineer will be provided and sufficient water
will be provided on site for moistening. When placing the backfill, due allowance will be made for
any settlement that may occur before the end of Defects Notification Period. Where necessary, at
