AVID Testimonial

This is officially my second year of AVID. AVID has been extremely helpful throughout

high school just because it helps gear me on the right track for what classes I should take in order

to meet important requirements. I can proudly say that it has enhanced my organizational and note

taking skills. The tutorials every Tuesday and Thursday also allow me to collaborate with my peers

to get a better understanding on concepts. AVID has allowed me to get an idea of who I am and

what it is I want to do with my life.

Coming into high school, I was ecstatic but nervous all the while. I had no idea how I was

going to figure out the right classes to take to make sure I was hitting every requirement. Because

of AVID, I was able to plan out my entire high school schedule to not only meet requirements, but

also take classes I’m interested in.

Before entering AVID, I would say I was pretty organized and took good notes, but I

gained even better skills. The binder checks every Friday keep my binder up to par all throughout

the week. I can’t bare to see my binder with loose papers. Everything has to be on the rings and in

the right section. The cornell notes required by the end of the week also cause me to really question

what it is I’m learning and whether or not I actually understand the concepts. When I don’t feel like

I fully understand something, I take it to tutorials. Through collaboration with my fellow AVID

students, I get help figuring out my problem.

AVID has also allowed me to figure out who I am, like what it is that I’m interested in. I’ve

figured out that no matter what it is I do, I want to make sure I’m helping others. I can’t stress that

enough. I love being around others and helping them with whatever it is they need. I figured out

that I want to go into the educational field. Education has always been one of my strong suits and I

think it only makes sense for me to pursue a profession in education. I love learning and being

around people, so where better to work than a school. I want to become a teacher and help my

students reach their full potentials like all my teachers have helped me do. I know that I want to

leave an impact on others and I think one of the best ways to do so is in a classroom to my very

own students.

I can’t wait to continue my experience in AVID. I plan to stay in AVID for the rest of high

school and know that I will continue to benefit from it. Currently, I’m secretary of the AVID club

and plan to continue representing AVID.
