A. Activity
The teacher will post a question on the board.
Sentence: Reema bought a cake but his sister, father and mother wanted to have a share
of it. What will he do in order for them to eat the cake?
B. Analysis
Teacher: What should Reema do to the Pupils: Teacher, he will divide the cake
cake?
How will he divide the cake? Cut it into 3 parts.
What do you call or what is the term used It is called partitive proportion
in cutting or dividing the parts of a whole?

C. Abstraction
1. What is a proportion?
A proportion is a mathematical comparison between two numbers. Often, these
numbers can represent a comparison between things or people.
2. What is a partitive proportion?
Partitive Proportion, from the word "Partitive" meaning divided into parts, is a
proportion of a quantity being distributed or divided unequally into two or more parts.
3. What are the examples of partitive proportion?
1. Ned has a budget of $1200 for the allowance of his three kids. How much will Robb,
Brandon, and Rickon get if the money was divided with a ratio of 3:4:5?Solution:
3x+4x+5x=1200 3(100)= $300 for Robb
12x=1200 4(100)= $400 for Brandon
X=100 5(100)= $500 for Rickon
2. The ratio of two complementary angles is 5:4, find the larger angle. Remember that
the sum of complementary angles is equal to 90°

thus,5x+4x=90 5(10)= 50°9x=90

The larger angle is equal to 50°x=10
D. Application
Instructions: The class will be divided into four (4) groups. Each group will be given a
Manila paper. They will solve a problem of partitive proportion in 5 minutes.
Problem: Jodi filled three containers, A, B and C with orange juice in the ratio 2:3:4. If the
total amount of orange juice is 36 L, find the capacity of the three containers.
IV. Evaluation
Directions: Solve the following partitive proportion word problems:
1. In a class of 40, the ratio of boys to girls is 3:5. How many are girls? How many are boys?
2. The ratio of the three sides of a triangle is 1:2:3. What are the measurements of each side
if the perimeter of the triangle is 120 cm?
3. The sum of $500 is divided among three girls, Liz, Beth and Tess in a ratio 2:3:5. What is
the share of each girl? Who gets the biggest share?
4. The total weight of Santino, Rico and Bong is 112 kg. Their weights are in the ratio 3:1:4.
What is Santino’s weight? How much heavier is Bong than Rico?
5. A sum of money is to be shared in the ratio 3:5:7. If the smallest is $9. What are the other
two shares? How much money is shared?
V. Assignment
In 1 whole sheet of paper, solve the following word problems:
1. Miss Vivian cuts a roll of ribbon into three pieces X, Y and Z in the ratio 4:2:1. The length
of the longest piece is 28 cm. Find the lengths of Y and Z.
2. Ronald draws three lines in different colors, red, yellow, and green. Their lengths are in the
ratio 1:3:5. The yellow line is 18 cm long. How long is the green line? How long is the red
line?
