Project Title The Shape (Working Title)

Section 1: Rationale (Approx 150 words)

Across all twelve units of this qualification I have learnt to better utilise my skills whilst
working in groups and with others I wouldn’t usually work with. I have also been able to
identify my weaknesses and have begun working on bettering them through outreaching
and research. This has all helped better understand my chosen specialism which is
directing. I have also been able to identify a chosen genre that I want to try my hand with
which is Neo Noir. This genre allows me to experiment with the lighting and potentially
silent protagonist which I have began experimenting with in the past.

Section 2: Project Concept (approx 200 words)

The concept of my project is following an unnamed character as he moonlights as a violent enforcer

after receiving strange phone calls. I am taking inspiration from the video game Hotline Miami and the
film Drive which both feature similarities. I am not sure how long I want to make it because I want to
potentially add a bit of back story of the character but at the moment, I’ve got a clear idea in my head
how I could approach the concept strong and hopefully enjoyable to audience which does not feature a
back story. I want to be able to experiment further with the lowkey lighting and sound design with this
project too. The potential locations I have identified are easy to use which makes the filming process
easier. The idea features two basic locations a bedroom and a car. The bedroom is where we will get a
glimpse out how this character lives and the car will be him getting to his location where he puts his
skills to work. The violence will be entirely off screen so you will have to use your imagination, but we
will see the aftermath on our character once the deed is done.

Section 3: Evaluation Methods (approx 150 words)

The way I will evaluate this piece of work is the same method I used in my other
projects. I will rewatch the project until I no longer like what I see as this allows me to
see the mistakes made and what I wish I did differently. I aim to a director's
commentary to provide an insight into the film as I believe being able to talk about the
film is a lot easier than writing about it.

By the end of the evaluation I will have a comprehensive list of what went well and
what needs to be improved come the end of the assignment.
