4.1 PREPARATION
1) Hold a toolbox talk and complete the TRIC card, ensure that all
crewmembers are aware of the risks and the controls put in place
to mitigate them, also that they are familiar with the lifting plan.
2) An adequate amount of pull back line ie. Enough to reach the Kelly is
spooled ready for use.
4.2 PERFORMANCE
After the Kelly has been disconnected from the string (Ref: Procedure for
Connections).
1) Attach the pull back line to the lower end of the Kelly.
3) Raise the Kelly with the blocks until the Kelly pin end is above
the level of the top of the sock.
4) Pull back the Kelly in a controlled manner with the pull back
tugger until the pin end is centred over the sock.
6) Lower the Kelly with the blocks until the Kelly weight is
transferred to the sock and the Kelly bail just lifts off the load
bearing surface of the hook, stop the block at this position.
8) Pull the Kelly and sock back to its full extent of travel with the
tugger. This will disengage the Kelly bail from the hook.
