President Trump began his remarks to the Joint Sessions of Congress in praising the U.S.
for being a union
that stands united when condemning "hate and evil in all of its very ugly forms." Trump states that there is a now a renewal of the American Spirit, a new era of American Greatness. He then points to the issues that Americans have been facing such as hardships as a result of working on global projects and illegal immigration and how Americans have gathered like an earthquake, asking for Americans to be put first in their own nation again so American can be made great again. Trump then speaks on the economy and the great projected growth he anticipates as a result of investment from companies such as "Ford, Fiat-Chrysler, General Motors, Sprint, Softbank, Lockheed, Intel, Walmart and others." He mentions his efforts to drain the swamp "by imposing a five-year ban on lobbying by executive branch officials and a lifetime ban...and a lifetime ban on becoming lobbyists for a foreign government." He speaks quite a bit with regard to the importance of proper and legal immigration, by alluding to Terrorism and Trump further states: "We have seen the attacks in France, in Belgium, in Germany, and all over the world. It is not compassionate, but reckless to allow uncontrolled entry from places where proper vetting cannot occur. Those given the high honor of admission to the United States should support this country and love its people and its values. We cannot allow a beachhead of terrorism to form inside America. We cannot allow our nation to become a sanctuary for extremists." Trump then speaks behalf of Scalia's wife who is present, asking the Senate to swiftly approve of the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch. Trump then discusses his conversation with one American company and their experience selling goods in other countries, experiencing a tax rate of 100%. "They said that in the case of another country, they taxed their motorcycles at 100 percent. They weren’t even asking for a change. But I am." Trump then discusses immigration again, calling for a merit system of entry into the nation, a desire for a national "rebuilding," and asking Congress to repeal and replace Obamacare. He explains what specifically is the issue with Obamacare in that Americans can pick their own plans and be covered for pre-existing conditions, and calls for the program to be repealed and replaced. Trump then speaks on his other guests, and concludes his speech with the idea that we are all one American. And as Americans it is important we be empowered by our aspirations and not "burdened by fears, inspired by the future, not bound by the failures of the past; and guided by our vision, not blinded by our doubts."
