Description

1- Can APU BLEED LEAK/ APU LEAK FED BY ENGINES be triggered with engines shut
down?

2- How to troubleshoot this ECAM warning?

Solution

1. When a bleed leak is reported by the APU LOOP through BMC, APU BLEED LEAK
message is memorized and only is triggered if APU bleed is ON.
Under such conditions, APU BLEED LEAK warning will be displayed in the ECAM as
follows:
AIR APU BLEED LEAK
- APU BLEED ..................OFF

In case of APU bleed leak is confirmed during 45 second with APU bleed valve closed and
APU bleed p/b OFF, APU LEAK FED BY ENG will be triggered.
ECAM warning will display:
AIR APU BLEED LEAK
APU LEAK FED BY ENGINE
- ENG BLEED 1 ..................OFF

APU BLEED LEAK FED BY ENGINE is only triggered when the APU bleed is OFF. Please
notice that it is possible to trigger this warning with APU bleed OFF and ENG bleed off, if
small leak is detected on the APU line once the APU bleed is switched off.
Also in the case OAT was high during the event, please consider that small leaks under hot
environmental conditions will be easily triggered.

We can suspect that a small real leak on duct connection could be the root cause of such
warning. In some cases, when APU bleed is ON, APU loop will detect the leaks and APU
BLEED LEAK warning will be triggered. In other case, once APU bleed is switched OFF, air
enclosed on the APU bleed line may leak and APU loop will detect the leak. As APU is
switched off, APU BLEED LEAK FED BY ENGINE will be triggered.

2- Troubleshooting recommandations:

First apply TSM TASK 36-22-00-810-920-A Failure of the APU Bleed Check Valve with
APU leak, including TSM TASK 36-22-00-810-919-A Air Leak on the APU line (1) check
valve replacement does not solve the leak.

Further troubleshooting recommendations:

a) With engine and APU bleed off, please perform an Alpha label call-up (refer to
AMM 31-36-00-001 description and AMM task 31-36-00-740-805 for procedure). This will
allow us to check if BMC record the leak on ground. Format to enter in Alpha call-up
parameter: EQ.SYS.LAB.SDI. The following label call-up would be needed:

 06F.1.055.01, we will check the bite 24 APU LEAK, 28 (b) APU LEAK
MEMORIZED and the 29 APU LEAK DISCRETE.
 06F.1.067.01, we will check the bite 29 APU LEAK FED BY ENGINE.

Please note that FWC will take APU LEAK information from BMC label 055 bite 24, APU
LEAK FED BY ENGINE from BMC label 067 bite 29.

b) Please put temperature templates on the duct connection along the APU line.

c) Put APU bleed on, with packs off during 20 minutes. In case of bleed leak
warning, stop APU bleed and check temperature templates to identify bleed leak.

d) If no bleed leak has been triggered during 20 minutes, please perform again alpha
label call-up and check indication on the temperature templates.

Note: temperature templates information is provided on SIL 36-049 and also on TSM 36-22-
00 PB301.
