A. This manual provides Description and Opération, Disassembly, Assembly, and Testing
Instructions for thé A319 / A320 / A321 Fuel Cell. Thé Bag Tanks are manufactured by
AERAZUR, 4 rue Lesage Maille - 76320 CAUDEBEC LES ELBEUF - FRANCE - NATO CODE
F6101.
B. To facilitate use of this manual, data that is pecullar to a spécifie configurations) Is presented
separately by subsectlon wlthin each major section of thé manual. Thé Table of Contents at thé

A 319 / A320 / A321 Bag Tank consista basically of a 1266 Type II wall (see Figure 2). For
more détails about Bag Tank, refer to thé Figure 6 page 7.
Furthermore, thé llfe tlme in service for thé Bag Tank is 15 years, Includlng thé storage
conditions (Refer thé section 700- § storage).

A. Général
(1) Thé Bag Tank can be pressurized and tested for leakage once they hâve been removed
from thé helicopter structure.
B. Leakage Test
(1) Make sure that thé bladder does not contain any foreign bodies.
(2) Seal bladder openlngs with blanking plates to perform thé leakage test.
Général Torque Value:
Diam. 6.35: 0.5 mdaN
Diam. 4.82: 0.35 mdaN
(3) Insert kérosène through thé opening then seal with thé blanking plate fltted with thé
pressure control system.
(4) Pressurize thé Bag Tank can with air to 17 mb (0,25 PSI) this value must not be
exceeded).
(5) Examine thé Bag Tank one side at a time after leavlng each side to stand at least 20
minutes.
(a) If no trace of kérosène is visible on thé side tested, thls side is fuel tight. Proceed
likewise for thé other sides.
(b) If one or more traces of kérosène appear on thé side tested then :
• Dry that side
• Reposition thé bladder on that side for 20 minutes
• If some traces are still visible, mark their location with soft chalk for repair.
(6) Depressurize thé Bag Tank, remove thé blanking plates and make repairs where
necessary.
(a) If thé Bag Tank does not show leakage on ail thé sides, relnstall it immediately or
store it in its packaging (See assembly section).
(b) Any leak in thé bladder must be repaired (See repair section).

INSTALLATION LIMITATIONS
1 . Aircraft Applicability
A. Thé Bag Tank (p/n: 502244-1 A) is designated for a installation on A319/A320/A321 Aircraft.
B. If you handle thé Bag Tank roughly or incorrectly, you will cause abrasion, bruises, cracking
etc... of thé external wall.
CAUTION : DO NOT USE THE FITTING TO LIFT, MORE OR CARRY A FUEL CELL.
C. When you Install or remove thé Bag Tank, some protections are necessary on thé aircraft access
door.

2. Général Information
A. Before removing thé Bag Tank, make sure they hâve been properly drained. (See Cleaning
Section).
WARNING : EVEN A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL CAN GIVE OFF DANGEROUS FUMES.
F. Remove thé Bag Tank by folding it carefully so that it can clear thé taped opening.
CAUTION : MAKE SURE THERE IS N0 METALLIC PARTS THAT MIGHT DAMAGE THE
BAG TANKS.
G. Place thé Bag Tank on a surface free from metallic fittings, tools or any other objects liable
to damage thé Bag Tank.
NOTE : Bag Tank shall not be left out their packaging for a long time prior to repair
installation or storage.

CLEANING
2. Général Information
(3) In means of internai access, take a cloth that is moistened with cleanlng solution 601199
(See Figure 401) and apply on thé internai Bag Tank wall. Drain thé cleaning solution to
thé outside. Keep an airflow through thé Bag Tank either 2 at 4 hours (if ambient
température = 20°C) or 8 at 12 hours (if ambient température = -10°C).
(1) When you see a small defect on thé external Bag Tank Wall, make a mark to shows its
position. Use a soft chalk (See Figure 401).

NOTE : Refer to Figure 501 through for Visual checking of Bag Tank and related
components.
NOTE : When thé disposition Is replace refer to thé disassembly section for thé
disassembly of thé component and to thé assembly section for thé
assembly of thé component.
A. Thé work area must be covered wlth a clean carpeting, or other protective materlal and must
be clean and well llghted.
B. Thé check can be made without thé aid of spécial optical déviées, otherwise indicated herein.
C. Bag Tank hâve to be inspected for defects with a view to repair where necessary.
D. To each defect that may be found corresponds an applicable repair procédure for thé wall
référence 1266 Type II.
E. Other repairs than those listed in repair section must be performed by an approved repair
station and are guaranteed.
A. External Surface
(1) Examine thé Bag Tank surface for any signs of damage such as holes, cracks, etc.....
Note any defects for subséquent repair.
(2) If thé external surface contains gouging or tears, note thèse defects for subséquent
repair.
(3) If there are any fuel-soaked areas, check for leaks in thé Bag Tank wall. In order to be
sure, perform a leakage test (See Testing Section). Note defects for subséquent repair.
B. Rubber Fittings
(1) Check that matlng faces hâve not been crushed due to excessive torquing.
Note defects for subséquent repair.
C. Métal fittings
D. Attachements Systems
(1) Examine thé various attachment Systems (screw fixation). Any defects must be recorded
for subséquent repair or a replacement where necessary.
E. Internai surface
(1) Examine thé inslde surface thoroughly with an explosion-proof lamp to detect any
defects liable to cause leakage (cracks, holes, abrasion, scratches or any other defects).
(2) Note defects for subséquent repair.

2. Général Information
NOTE: To handle thé Bag Tank, refer to Installation Limitation Section.
NOTE: Minor Limits do not rnean that you must discard thé Bag Tank. But it is not
permitted to Install It in aircraft untll It Is repalred.
A. Defects Classification
Thé types and dimensions of defects cause them to be put Into thé groups that follow :
(1)Critical
(a) A critical defect is one that judgment or expérience indicate could result in hazardous
or unsafe conditions for individuals using or maintaining thé product, or for major
end-items of products such as ships, aircraft or cells, a defect that could prevent
performance of thelr tactical function.
(2) Major
(a) A major defect is a defect, other than critical, that could result In fallure or materially
decrease thé usablllty of thé unit or product for Its intended function.
(3) Minor
(a) A minor defect is that does materially decrease thé usuability of thé unit or product
for its intended function, or is a departure from established standards havlng no
important bearing on thé effective use or opération of thé unit.
B. Defects types
(1) "Istcategory
(a) Blemishes and some minor superficial defects, internai or external, which can be
repalred by subséquent finish opérations or whlch are permitted without repair.
Maximum 5 mm in width
Critical : N/A.
Minor : Thé maximum looseness is 5 mm wide by 75 mm long. There Is one loose area in
each linear meter of thé spllce.

NOTE : Perforrn a Bag Tank Cleaning (refer to Cleaning Section) before repair.
Thé followlng procédure Is only for small Bag Tank.
WARNING : YOU MUST WEAR A MASK, GLOVES AND EYES PROTECTIONS TO MAKE
ALL REPAIRS (REFER TO FIGURE 601).
(1) Make a mark 5 mm around thé damage to show thé repair area. Make thé mark with soft
chalk on thé EXTERNAL surface of thé coll. Put adhesive paper tape to show thé limits
of thé external surfaces to be bonded.
(d) Apply two coats of céments 706018 to thé repalr area. Let thé cément dry for 10
minutes between each coat.
(e) Let surfaces dry fully for 15 minutes.
(f) Remove adhesive paper tape from thé bladder wall.
(g) Thanks to an applicator slightly moistened with MEK, make thé cernent 706018 tacky
on thé repair area.
(h) To be sure that cernent is tacky, put your finger joint lightly on thé surface. Then lift
your finger. You rnust just feel that thé cernent is rnoistened but It must not bond to
your finger.
(I) To bond thé two surfaces, roll down with a roller to thé outer edges to prevent air
being trapped.
G) Keep thé surfaces in position with adhesive fabric tape for fifteen minutes.
(k) Let thé repair dry for two hours.
(2) Inspection
(a) Check there is no sign of looseness.
(3) Finishing
(a) Put adhesive paper tape 5 mm around thé repair area on thé external surface of
thé coll.
(b) Clean thé area with a clean cloth that is moistened with 601599 (refer to Figure 601)
(c) Use a pièce of emery cloth to buff thé external repair area manually. (Only 4 or 5
llght passages).
(d) Clean thé area with a clean cloth that is moistened with 601599.
(e) Let thé repalr area dry fully 2 at 3 minutes.
(f) Use a paintbrush to apply two coats of paint 706070. Let thé paint dry for 30 minutes
after each application on thé repalr area.
(g) Rernove thé adhesive paper tape frorn thé bladder wall.
(h) Do not expose this coating to kérosène for at least 24 hours.
(1) Perform a cleaning of Fuel Cell before repalr (see cleaning section).
(2) Repair fuel cells in a warm, dry, clean location must be clear of dust and fumes.
(3) Thé repalr materlals should be stored in conditions appropriate to proper conservation of thé
various materials.
WARNING: CEMENTS AND SOLVENTS USED TO REIPAIR FUEL CELLS ARE VERY
FLAMMABLE.
CAUTION: DO NOT START THE FUEL CELL REPAIR BEFORE IT IS FULLY DRY.
NOTE: If thé Fuel Cell is not dry, thé repair patches wlll not bond correctly.
B. Précautions
WARNING : YOU MUST WEAR A MASK, GLOVES AND EYES PROTECTIONS TO MAKE
ALL REPAIRS.
KEEP FUEL FAR FROM OPEN FLAMES OTHER SOURCES OF IGNITION.
CAUTION : CEMENT AND SOLVENTS USED TO REPAIR FUEL CELLS ARE VERY
FLAMMABLE.
C. Repalr description
(-l)Materials
CAUTION: DO NOT BUFF THROUGH THE LINER TO NOT INCREASE THE DEFECT
(c) Clean thé buffed area with a clean cloth that is moistened with MEK.
(d) Let thé repair area dry fully.
(a) Use a paintbrush to apply two coats of cernent 705018 on repair area. Let thé cernent dry
for 10 minutes between each application.
(b) Let thé second coat dry fully for approxlmately 15 minutes.
(c) When thé application Is fully dry, remove thé adhesive paper tape from thé Internai
surface.
(d) Take a round patch from rubber 702007, dlameter 40 mm. Remove thé blue polyethylene
protection.
(e) Use an appllcator that Is moistened with MEK. Make thé rubber patch 702007 tacky and
make thé cernent on thé repair area tacky.
(f) To make sure thé cernent is tacky, put your finger joint llghtly on thé surface. Then lift
your finger. You must just feel that thé cément is moistened but it must not bond your
finger.
(g) Adjust thé rubber patch 702007 In thé conter position on thé damage.
(h) Roll down with a roller. Apply a strong pressure. Start from thé conter of thé rubber patch
and roll to thé outer edges to prevent air being trapped. Peel thé polythene layer from thé
rubber patch 702007.
(a) Use a paintbrush to apply two coats of 705018 at thé wall on thé repair area. Let thé
cernent dry for 10 minutes between each application.
(b) Let thé second layer of cernent dry fully during approxirnately 15 minutes.
(c) When thé cément is fully dry, remove thé adhesive paper from thé external surface.
(d) Meanwhile take a round patch from coated fabric 703006, diameter 50 mm.
(e) Use an applicator that Is moistened with MEK to make thé fabric patch and thé cernent
on thé repair area tacky.
(f) To make sure thé cernent is tacky, put your finger joint lightly on thé surface. Then lift
your finger. You must just feel that thé cernent is moistened but it rnust not bond to your
finger.
(g) Adjust thé rubber patch in thé conter position on thé repair area coated with cernent,
(h) Roll down with a roller. Apply a strong pressure. Start frorn thé center of thé coated patch
and roll to thé outer edges to prevent air being trapped.
(i) Peel thé polythene layer frorn thé rubber patch.
(9) Curing
(a) Put and centre on thé internai and external repaired area, a Teflon-coated fabrlc sheet
3001 S007 and a pièce of cellularfoam 3001 S053 which hâve thé same dimensions of
thé curing plates (502005).
(b) Put thé assembly under thé curing press or put thé heatlng unlts against thé aluminum
plates. Attach thé plates tightly with a C-clamp.
(c) Cure for 30 minutes at 175°C (tlme necessary to increase température not included).
(d) Let thé heating unit cool before to remove thé repair area, for thé curing press with
cooling ventilation System walt for 10 minutes before you remove thé repair area.
(10) Inspection
(a) To inspect thé cure, rub thé repair area lightly with a clean cloth that Is molstened with
MEK.
(b) If thé cloth stays qulte clean, thé cure Is correct.
(c) If thé cloth becomes black, cure agaln as wrltten above.
(d) If thé edge of thé repair is loose, apply one more coat of cernent 705018 to thé loose
area. Cure again as written above.
(e) Do a check for leaks (see testlng section).
( 1 1 ) Finishing
(a) Put adhesive paper tape 5 mm around thé repair area on thé external surface of thé
cell.
(b) Clean thé area with a clean cloth that is moistened with 601599.
(c) Use a pièce of emery cloth to buff thé external repair area manually. (Only 4 or 5 llght
passages)
(d) Clean thé area with a clean cloth that is moistened with 601599. Let thé repair area
dry fully 2 at 3 minutes.
(e) Use a paintbrush to apply two coats of palnt 706070. Let thé paint dry for 30 minutes
after each application on thé repair area.
(f) Remove thé adhesive paper tape from thé bladder wall.
(g) Do not expose this coating to kérosène for at least 24 hours.
Buffing by hand.

2. Général
A. Check thé packing to make sure thé Bag Tank P/N corresponds to thé compartment in which
it is to be installée).
C. To facilitate positioning of thé Bag Tank in thé compartment, apply kérosène over thé inside
surface with a non-shedding cotton cloth.
NOTE : Thls opération is intended to soften thé bladder wall. It can be performed by
thé Bag Tank manufacturer or thé user thé day before thé Bag Tank is
mounted in its compartment.
3. Installation
A. Before installing thé Bag Tank in thé compartment, make sure there are no foreign bodies
liable to damage thé Bag Tank wall. If necessary vacuum it out or clean it thoroughly.
B. Arter examining thé compartment walls, cover with adhesive tape any protrusions due to
sheet métal, joggle patches, extrusion flanges, rivet or screw heads, etc...
C. Wipe off any traces of fuel, oil or grease, with a non-shedding cloth.
D. Remove thé Bag Tank from its packing. Handle it on a surface free from any métal filings,
tools or other objects liable to damage thé Bag Tank wall.
E. Remove ail storage blanking plates.
F. Cover thé compartment access opening with relnforced adhesive tape.
G. Fold thé Fuel Cell so that it can be passed through thé access opening.
H. Position thé Fuel Cell in thé compartment. Do not allow thé bladder to rub against any
protruding parts that may damage It.
CAUTION : NEVER HANDLE THE BAG TANK BY MEANS OF THE BLADDER FITTINGS
I. Finish positioning thé Bag Tank in thé compartment by easlng it into corners, thé fitting
throats, etc...Secure thé rope fixations to thé structure loops and apply thé self gripplng
patches. Once installed, thé Fuel Cell must not hâve any folds such as shown below.

J. Connect thé doors; coat thé threads of each stud with molybdenum disulfide to make it easier
to screw on thé nuts. Flrst screw ail thé nuts by hand then torque them to thé recommended
value with a torque them to thé recommended value with a torque wrench.
A. Packlng
(1) Général
(a) Thé bladders must be kept in their original packlng whlch has been designed for
long-term storage.
(b) Whenever a bladder has to be returned for repalr to thé manufacturer or an approved
repairer, it should be placed in Its original packlng where possible or in packing of a
similar quality.
(2) Repacking
(a) Clean thé Bag Tank (See cleaning section).
(b) Place thé Bag Tank on a clean table cleared of any tools.
(c) Protect thé fittings (studs and accessories).
(d) Fold lightly thé Crashworthy Fuel Pipe towards inside.
(3) Packing
(a) Place a moisture-absorbing bag inside thé Bag Tank.
(b) Place thé Bag Tank in a polyethylene bag and seal with adhesive paper.
(c) Place this In thé original packing, where possible, or in a cardboard box of similar
quality, and sealed with adhesive tape.

(a) Recommendations
1 Stlff cardboard boxes are strong enough to withstand shipping to storage, repalr or
installation areas. They must nevertheless be handled with care.
(6) Storage
NQTE : Thé flexible bladders must be stored In accordance with standard NFL
17103.
1 Basic storage conditions
-Température Between 10°C and 20°C.(50°F and 70°F) with exceptional
extrêmes of 41 and 85°F (5 and 30°C).
- Light Protect thé bladders from sunlight or artificial light.
- Atmosphère Relative humidity between 45% and 70%
Protect thé bladders from air containlng harmful fumes
Protect thé bladders from ozone. No ozone-generating equipment
is allowed (mercury vapor lamps, high voltage electronic
equipment, spark generating equipment, etc...)
- Avoid contact with solvents, oil and grease.
