PART – B (5 x 2 = 10 marks)
21. (i) Find the magnitude of two forces such that if they act at (6)
right angles their resultant is square root of 10 N .But If
they act at 60ᵒtheir resultant is 13N.
(ii) Particle “O” is acted by (9)
(a) 20N inclined 30ᵒ to north of east
(b) 25N towards the north
(c) 30N towards the north west
(d) 35N inclined 40ᵒ to south of west .Find the
resultant.
PART – D (4 x 15 = 60 marks)
22.(a) (i) The lines of action of three forces are concurrent at (13)
the origin O, passes through points A,B and C having
coordinates ( 3,0,-3) ,( 2,-2,4) and ( -1,2,4)
respectively .If the magnitude of forces are 10N,30N
and 40N ,find the magnitude and direction of resultant.
(ii) Define Varignon’s theorem. (2)

22.(b) Find the support reactions of a beam as shown in (15)
figure,
23.(a) Determine the area moment of inertia about vertical (15)
centroidal axis of shaded region as shown in figure.

25.(a) (i) A car ‘ A’ starts from rest with uniform acceleration of (10)
0.6m/s2. A second car B starts from the same point
after 10seconds .The car B follows the same route
with the acceleration of 1.2m/s2. Determine the time
necessary to overcome the car A, and the distance
covered when B passes A.
(ii) A motorist travelling at a speed of 18km/h ,suddenly (5)
applies the brakes and comes to rest after skidding
75 m .Find the time required for the car to stop.
Or
25.(b) (i) The position of a particle is given by the relation (15)
S= 1.5t3-9t2-22.5t+60, where S is expressed in meters
and t in seconds .Determine (i) the time at which the
velocity will be zero (ii) the position and distance
travelled by the particle at that time (iii) the
acceleration of the particle at that time and (iv) the
distance travelled by the particle from t=5S to t= 7S.
