Introduction

This SBA consist of work that I have done. It has ways how to prevent domestic violence and

reflections on what I have discovered in my research. It contain all the pieces of work that this

SBA requires, the plan of investigation, reflections, written report and my oral presentation plan.

This provides all about what I have thoughts and before and after reading an article.

Why I choose this topic?

Domestic violence is violent, abusive or intimidating behavior in a relationship. I choose

Prevention of Domestic Violence because a lot of these crimes that are happening in modern

times are happening in homes and no one seems to be noticing nor anyone seem to be concern.

When at home a person should feel safe and protected and not be violence. I choose this topic so

I can know some ways of protecting myself and others when at home.

This S.B.A will benefit me as an individual and as a students as it will build my critical thinking

skill and expand my knowledge in this area and I plan to better myself and to help others in

similar situations. It also will benefit me in my comprehension skill.

I will read newspaper article to find information and view you tube videos for videos concerning

ways how to prevent domestic violence. I will also find appropriate artefacts that would help me

to carry out my research on this topic.

 Reflection One (1)

Domestic violence has been a major problem for many individuals. Many try to prohibit it, some

failed while some succeeded. Before reaching on this topic, I only taught of the spouse that can

stop domestic violence because I did not think that a person should get involved in another

person conflict. After reading through the newspaper article named “Domestic violence is

everybody’s business” released on the 18th of October 2016 by the Sunday express. I realized

that domestic violence is not only a family issue but it is everybody issue. We must not depend

on the family in which the victim is to help. The society can also and must help in preventing

domestic violence from happening to our nation.

The artefact that was founded on the internet named “How to prevent Domestic

Violence educated me. At first before reading through it was thinking of ways to prevent

domestic violence and only came up with one way that the victim should call the police

whenever he/she is being abused or about to be abused. After reading through the artefact, then I

realized that prevention of domestic violence starts from early. You must first educate yourself

before engaging in any relationship with anyone. Secondly you must know the signs of an abuse

partner. Thirdly and final help persons that are experiencing domestic violence. I then realized

that I am heading in a right path of preventing myself from domestic violence and I must play a

role in other persons’ life who are experiencing domestic violence.

I taught that domestic violence is just physical abuse before viewing the video

which was published by white ribbon accreditation with stated cycle to break cycle. After

viewing it I realized that domestic violence is more than just physical abuse. It has to do with

social, verbal, sexual abuse and loss of financial independence. I then started thinking that there

are many person who are being abuse and no one even knows because most people know

domestic violence as just physical abuse when it so much more. This video and I know that

domestic violence is a broad problem in todays’ society mainly because of sexually and mentally

abuse.

 Reflection Two (2)

The newspapers article “Domestic violence is everybody’s business” which was

released on the 18th of October 2016 by the Sunday express uses formal language to express its

message. While reading through the article I understand what it was saying perfectly. The tone of

the article I can say is concerning. The writer seems to be concerned about domestic violence

that it is destroying families. We must be our neighbor keepers and ensure the protection of

women, men and especially our children.

The artefact founded on the internet “How to prevent domestic violence” used

descriptive language in its statement. It uses the descriptive word which educated me. It taught

me about things I never knew about domestic violence. The descriptive word describe the

different type of domestic violence and the signs a abusive partner may have. I clearly

understand what the writer was teaching in its message.

The video uses formal language also in expressing its message. Everything was

listed with a clearly understandable mode. The tone of it was sad. There were violence

happening and no one is trying to help stop it. The video tells that our men are the better chance

of preventing domestic violence. The writer seems to be sad because of the violence happening

to most of our women by our men and men are the ones who should be stopping this crime

instead of following in line and doing it.

 Reflection Three (3)

This S.B.A has helped me to work with others so I can express my thoughts more. I was

antisocial before starting this SBA, but doing it, it made me become socialize with my peers.

Helping them with their piece of assignment and giving ideas about what they can do. I grew to

socialize with other people other than my group members.

This SBA also helped me to develop my critical thinking skill and also my comprehension skill.

I am know able to write more paragraphs than I usually write and start to think of languages used

in my paragraphs and how I think in my writing. This helped me in writing essay, short story and

summary in my English language class.

This process help me in my subjects other than English language. It made me start even making

my own notes when in class and a teacher is not there. I was in one of my class and the teacher

was out sick, so I decided to make my own notes on the topic which we3 were at. I take out my

textbook and find the topic and take out the important notes and wrote it down in my notebook.

This benefit me as I was able to take out the important notes so, it was already that I know what

the topic is about.

 Written Report

This SBA started out with our teacher telling us about the SBA why we need to complete it and

the different pieces it carries. We then get into our group and choose a topic. We then

individually choose a sub-topic and went and find our individually research, researching articles,

artifacts, videos and songs expressing on our sub topic.

After the researched finding the articles we then have to write our plan of investigation. Once

that was done three reflections. Reflection 1 was about how each pieces of article shape our

thinking after reading through it, the second refection was the uses of languages used in the

articles and the third was how the SBA have made us become a better person. We each went and

wrote these reflection. Once we wrote this reflection the next step was our oral presentation,

which we have to express our thought by talking.

Doing this SBA has develop my knowledge and also my skills in English Language. It has

improve my reading and comprehension skills. It made me want to read and write more. It made

me want to explain what I have read any time I have read something so others can understand as

well.

 Oral Presentation Plan

My genre in my oral presentation take the form of a poetry. I use a poem because I express

myself more in poems. I am able to use description words that would describe my thoughts on

the topic. The kind of poem I used is an Ode kind of poem. I was inspire by the fact that

domestic violence is a major problem in our society and we as a society need to know ways in

order to find ways to protect ourselves as well as other from this criminal act so I choose this

topic and for this genre I was inspire by our great honorable Louise Bennett who uses poems to

express herself on her taught to our nation.

My articles that I have research help me to add content to my poem by giving me the information

in which I used to create my poem. I have use informal register because I understand informal

language better than formal language because of the way in which I spoke so when I use

informal language I express myself in the same way I feel and not in some other way. My oral

presentation will be about ways in which one can prevent themselves and other from domestic

violence.
