A Cry For Help

According to WBTV news there have been several disturbing cases recently where a child

was the alleged victim of sexual abuse in the hands of a caregiver. In the Iredell county a man was

charged with six counts of sex crimes with a child. In Rowan county Anthony Doull was charged

with sex crimes involving a girl who was 3 years old. We hear about child abuse everyday these

are just a few examples. ​Laws protecting children should be enforced because there are too

many kids being abused, whether it’s physically mentally or emotionally. Also, kids are

vulnerable and can’t protect themselves predators are also getting off easy.

trauma, sprains, broken bones, burn marks, and weak development. (Joyful Heart Foundation)

These are some signs of physical abuse that if you notice a child frequently having them you

should suspect its abuse. “There is no right or wrong way for the child to manage the effects of

abuse they’ve suffered.(Joyful Heart Foundation) Every child will handle their abuse differently

but they need that love and attention that will definitely help. Physical abuse isn’t the only type

of abuse there is, there is also mental which is just as traumatizing, there are many stories of

child neglect which is heartbreaking.

abused, whether it’s physically mentally or emotionally. In February 2018 2 Mandela women

were accused of abusing their kids. The women used tasers on the kids who suffered bruises,

bloody nose, and serious injuries. (Velazquez) This is just one example of the many tragic

stories of child neglect, no child deserves this. “Fewer eyes on the child allows for some lack

of protection for the child that concerns”. (Barth) The Fewer people know about the child abuse

going on behind closed doors allows less chance of protection or a chance to get help. Every day

a child is being abused it could be right under our nose something must be done.

abused, whether it’s physically mentally or emotionally. Nearly 7 million kids are abused in the

u.s alone and these are only the reported incidents of child abuse.(Lyness) “Child abuse can rob

kids of the joy of growing up and affect them negatively for years to come”. Child abuse has a

negative effect on kids’ lives it affects them badly and will continue to if they can’t get help.

This issue needs to be taken care of these kids can’t protect themselves.
These are a few kids abused, and neglected since 2010. Usually, it’s between 4-7 years old and

8-11 years old. Younger kids are the most abused, because they’re the most vulnerable and it’s

easier to gain their trust. According to the chart, the most amount of kids abused were 23.4%

between the ages of 4-7 years old. The least amount according to the chart was 6.2% and those

kids were between 16-17 years old. The older kids are the least abused because they already

know right from wrong and they can’t protect themselves.

 Laws protecting children should be enforced because kids are vulnerable and can’t

protect themselves. Some kids are more vulnerable to abuse (usually sexually), because of

aspects happening in their lives like parents divorcing, deaths etc. They want to feel that “love”.

(stop it now) Because of certain situations in a child’s life, they feel alone, which makes a

predator reel them in easier. “Child sees him/herself as not deserving respect or

protection”.(stop it now) Kids feel vulnerable or like they don’t deserve protection they feel like

it’s their fault. Vulnerability plays a great factor in abuse, also how the child views themselves.

protect themselves. A common issue/reason can be due to a number of factors, including a

young person’s self-esteem and poor self-image.( Sefton Council) A young person’s self-esteem

can make them feel less of a person allowing someone to take advantage of that. “Sexual

exploitation can be linked to other issues in a child’s life.(Sefton Council) A child’s life can be

linked to the reason for the abuse. Young children are also manipulated, people see them as the

easiest/ most vulnerable to get too.

Laws protecting children should be enforced because kids are vulnerable and can’t

protect themselves. The youngest children are the most vulnerable to maltreatment because they

don’t know what to do.(American spcc) Smaller kids are the most vulnerable because they don’t

know right from wrong and can easily be tricked. “The US has the worst records among

industrialised nations losing on average almost 5 children every year to child abuse.(American

spcc) The US is one of the places with the greatest rate of abuse, we lose kids every year who
don’t deserve it. There are a lot of kids being abused, but one major issue is because not much is

done to the abuser.

Laws protecting children should be enforced because predators are getting off easy.

Once a child molester has chosen their victim, they work patiently to develop a relationship with

them.(Goetz) Child molesters are smart in order to get what they want they work by gaining the

child’s trust. “Predators favorite excuse I will never do it again”(Goetz) Usually predators claim

they’ll never do harm to again but they say that once they’re caught. Predators are everywhere

they can be in your own neighborhood and you wouldn’t even know.

February 2005 Jessica Lunsford (9) was abducted from her home, raped and buried alive by her

neighbor.(Residency restriction and Online registries) This just shows how predators are

everywhere, Jessica was taken from her own home a place where you’re supposed to feel safe.

“People want a silver bullet that will protect their children, but there is no silver bullet there is no

simple cure for the complex problem of child abuse.(Patty Wettering) Some laws protecting

children do more harm than good, we have to re-evaluate them.

Laws protecting children should be enforced because predators are getting off easy.

Politicians have perpetuated myths about sex offenders and failed to deal with the complex

reality of sexual violence against children.(Human Rights Wrath) Politicians are like blind, they

don’t realize the reality of this situation they just try to sugarcoat it. “Current laws are
ill-conceived and poorly crafted. (Jamie Fellner) Laws aren’t changing anything but no one’s

doing anything about it. They need to sit down and look at the issues. Overall there is not enough

change predators are still on the loose.

Here’s what the other side says “child laws don’t need to be enforced because they might

feel like there’s already enough being done or that we need to focus on other issues. For,

example school shootings or discrimination. What this argument fails to consider is that these are

children who are being ripped from their innocence, it could be your own child or someone you

know living in fear because they’re life is hell and there’s nothing being done about it.

Laws protecting children need to be enforced because child abuse is a real and serious

issue that not to many of us pay attention too and it’s only getting worse. This topic matters

because these kids depend on us to keep them safe and it’s important for the government to pay

more attention to these issues. Society should also be concerned because it could be your child

next, no one wants to see a child suffer and no one wants to bury their child, but something needs

to be done NOW!.
