I. PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATION OF EDUCATION

“Education is not filling a vessel but lightning a fire. It is the light meant for
enlightening the world.” It is believed that the driving purpose of education is to
change the world. Educators are responsible of filling the thirstiness for
knowledge that will light the chosen path of our youth in today’s generation.

Progress of every society consider the education of individual, in a broad

sense, consists of the impact on his mind. As a teacher, I believe that
educational system must cater and accommodate the individual differences
and the diverse needs of the learners in all levels. Learners are the world’s
future resources. They should be guided to become well adjusted, functional
and intelligent individual for their own benefit and the benefit of others. Be
motivated and stimulated to perform best their abilities.

Learning is universal and eternal process. Education must stresses the

importance of engaging, challenging, and student-centered instruction.
Learning will takes place when students will be given an opportunity to work
independently, interact and manipulate the learning materials on their own way.

Schools is the heart of education. This institution should provide quality

education that is above and beyond the standard that the learners can reach.
It should have a child friendly environment that sustain the needs of every
learners in order for them to acquire the learnings they deserve. It will provide
the necessary knowledge and skills that will help the learners.
Teaching and learning process will always takes place in educational
system. Whereas, teachers should facilitate, guide and motivate the students
to learn. Teachers must use different strategies, approaches and techniques to
improve students’ achievements. To teach the learners from the heart to mold
them holistically. So that, they will be physically, mentally, emotionally, socially
and spiritually ready to learn and to achieve their goals in life.

Learning is a lifelong process. Our learning yesterday may not be adequate

today or it may be no longer correct tomorrow. In relation with that, Nelson
Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon to change the
world.” A world in which education teaches man to foster sharing attitudes and
to compete with oneself before with others. Education should prepare human
being to adapt and embrace ongoing changes in the world.
II. SOCIOLOGICAL FOUNDATION OF EDUCATION

According to Ross "Individuality is of one value and personality is a

meaningless apart from social environment.” The man is born in society and
has to develop his personality in the society. Educating individual to participate
productively in the society will convey positive change.

The function of education is not only imparting knowledge to children, it has

a great responsibility in developing individual holistically. The educational
system should expand the concern in developing the individual according to
their unique needs and potential. Also, education should be an instrument
preparing the mind the students and to inculcate necessary knowledge, training
and skills, attitudes for the right way of thinking in a society so that they will be
able to solve various problem in the society.

As a teacher, I will provide learning environment that accommodates the

idea of every individual is unique. I should know about the process of
socialization among students and the method of interaction for social
development. The main goal of educating them to be competitive globally
because of continuous social changes that is happening in our world. In order
for me to do my mission I should understand what motivates and influence
them, for me to adjust accordingly to be as effective as possible in educating
them. At the end of the day, I will make sure that every individual extrapolate
the learnings in order for them to apply it in the society they belong. To convey
the learners that adequate values and attitudes is more important in dealing
with others. The learnings should not end with the four walls of the school but
extends to the learner’s home and his or her interaction with the larger society.

To learn the realities of society and to conform to those realities is a symbol

of positive change.
III. HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION

The educational system of the Philippines has been highly influenced by the
country’s colonial history. Every period has its own contributions that lead
changes and developments from the pre-Spanish times up to present.

The main goal of education is to provide productive individuals that will

elevate solutions to the challenges that our society is facing. Education in the
Philippines is offered through formal and non-formal systems that is overseen
by the Department of education.

The K-12 Basic Education is a program proposed by the Department of

Education. This program was designed to provide graduates that are ready to
face the challenges of the society. This reform faces challenges in redesigning
the curriculum, in deploying and training teachers, in ensuring the sustainability
of the program, and in meeting the required infrastructure at the start of the
implementation. The Philippines Educational System is still on the process of
addressing those issues for the benefit not only the individual students, but also
the country.

A holistic development is at the heart of education. It envisions a graduate

who has am mastery of core competencies as well as a solid training on work
and life skills. It emphasizes the student-centered teaching and learning
process. Because it is believed that students will be better equipped, ready,
and competent to take on any of the significant life choices if they learned on
their own capabilities. Teachers should facilitate the learnings, motivate, and
inspire the learners.

Development will leads to positive change. Our educational system was

developed for the future of our next generation, our country, and our world.
