life with more autonomy than the pregnant
individual? 
How is it that the fetus should be given more
autonomy when its existence still depends on the
body which carries it, and cannot survive void
thereof? This point was brought up in Planned
Parenthood V. Casey in 1992, which challenged the
trimester limitations of Roe V. Wade. The moral
dilemma is an ethical debate more-so than
medical. 
CAPITALISM
& GENDER  Working Women &
As capitalism advanced and
the creation of the middle
class grew, women were
encouraged to become
homemakers in a movement
labeled "The Cult of
Domesticity." 
If the "role of women" were a
choice, that would be quite a
different story; but what do
strict gender roles mean in a
growing capitalist nation...?
If we consider the goal of
capitalism is to create profit
as 'efficiently' a possible, this
would require long work
weeks from exploited labor.
Productive Labor as
described by Marx and
Engels describes the
production of goods in the
economy, and Reproductive
Labor is reproduction of the
labor power necessary to the
maintenance of that
productive economy.
The idea of the nuclear
family wherein which the
woman stays home and tends
to work that needs to be done
in the house, for free,
(reproductive work) became
a pivotal crutch for the
expansion of capitalism to
exploit for-profit labor
(productive work).
 
LGBTQ Community:
A Threat
to Capitalism
And Angela Davis's
Call to Socialize
Reproductive Labor
Capitalists could exploit male labor from dawn til
dusk  if the time necessary for reproductive labor
was handled by women at home. Which leads to
questions about gender roles in general. What
threatens this balance that best serves capitalism?:
Working women, single women, gay, lesbian,
transgender people all pose a threat to the
supremely unstable system of capitalism. This is
why gay and transgender citizens pose such a large
threat to the capitalist model of gender and family
and are often subjected to similar lifestyle
scrutiny. 
Angela Davis called for the government to create a
socialized system of reproductive labor, where all
housework was paid for by a federal service,
allowing non traditional families to live freely and
women to be seen as more than baby incubators. It
would also curb gendered learning, allowing girls
to explore productive labor skills rather than only
reproductive labor skills and vice versa.
