Notes:
1. Roof Section of building to be guttered.
2. Slope measured in specified inches of fall over one foot of gutter length.
3. Gutters shall be installed below the projection of the roof line to reduce damage from
ice and snow.
4. Maximum support spacing for gutters is 24 inches.
5. Downspouts shall be securely fastened at the top and bottom with intermediate
supports that are a maximum of 5 feet apart.
6. Gutters, downspouts and associated hardware shall be of similar material.
7. Align downspouts with exising post locations on building.
Materials:
Roof gutters and downspouts may be made of aluminum, galvanized steel, or plastic.
Aluminum gutters and downspouts shall have a nominal thickness of at least 0.027 and
0.020 inches, respectively. Galvanized steel gutters and downspouts shall be at least 28
gauge. Plastics shall contain ultraviolet stabilizers. Dissimilar metals shall not be in
contact with each other.

Notes:
1. Trench shall be located under the dripline of the roof.
2. Rock filled trenches shall consist of poorly graded rock (all rock fragments approximately the
same size, 3/8" to 3/4") and shall be free of appreciable amounts of sand and/or soil particles.
Crushed limestone shall not be used for backfill unless it has been washed.
**Septic stone is an acceptable alternative.
3. Drainage Tubing shall be a minimum of 4 inch diameter corrugated plastic tubing. It shall be
installed the through the entire length of the rock trench according to the drawing above and shall
extend to an acceptable outlet as shown on the plan map.
Operation & Maintenance:
A maintenance program shall be established by the landowner/user to maintain the funtional
capacity of the rock trench system. Items to consider include but are not limited to:
1. Keep rock clean and free of obstructions that reduce flow.
2. Periodically inspect all components of the system.
3. Repair all damaged outlets for the system.

should exercise special care to refer to them in requests for quotations, in orders, and in
subcontracts. Materials so specified shall conform to the technical requirements of the
respective specifications referred to.

It is the responsibility of the landowner or contractor to be familiar with the specifications. If any
changes are required for the standard construction specifications they will be noted in the plans or
below. A hard copy of the construction specifications may be provided by NRCS staff at the request of
the landowner or contractor.
