The objective of the Assignment

To highlight the importance of exhibiting different managerial roles in an organizational
setup

Learning Outcomes
After attempting this assignment, the students will be able to:
 Identify different managerial roles exhibited by managers in the organizations
 Recognize the most effective managerial role to be employed in different situations

Case:
XYZ Inc. is a leading Telecom company in Pakistan. They recently appointed Mr. Ali as a
General Manager (GM) due to the resignation of the previous GM.
Mr. Ali had huge tasks and challenges at hand upon resuming the charge. The company’s
growth rate has seen a noticeable decline in recent years and they are losing competitive
advantage in the market. Also, there is an internal conflict between HR and Finance
departments over issues related to the demand for additional manpower.
After joining, he called a meeting with Managers i.e. HR and Finance to discuss the issues
they have. After listening to both of them, he asked the HR manager to revisit his demands
and reduce the number of employees needed due to financial constraints thus settling the
conflict.
He also started observing the industry and found that XYZ Inc. is lacking in technology as
compared to the competitors who are using cutting edge techniques. He gathered
information through market research and came to the conclusion that they need to invest
more in up gradation of their systems for increasing their customer base.
Due to his skills, he not only extended the network with outside contacts but also
improved the communication between his own peers, subordinates, and superiors resulting
in better working relations which fetched positive results within two years.
