Biology SPM Paper 3 Technique (Question 1 and 2)

Question 1

An experiment is conducted by Jane at school with the following procedures:

Step 1: Three slides are prepared and are labeled Slide I, Slide II and Slide III.

Step 2: 5 cm cellophane tape with 3 cm width is cut and is adhered on the slide where the sticky side
is facing upwards. Jane make sure that she does not touch the sticky part of cellophane tape
exposed to air so that the adhesiveness of the cellophane tapes is the same for Slide I, Slide II and
Slide III.

Step 3: The slides are placed at three different location based on the following information

Slide Location
Slide I In the laboratory
Slide II At assembly ground
Slide III At teacher’s car park

Step 4: The slides are left undisturbed for a week.

Step 5: After a week, the condition of the slides is observed under a light microscope

(f) Construct table

Must have: all the values/ required aspect Construct a table and record all the values obtained in the
stated in question + correct units experiment. Your table must include
 location of slide placed
 number of particles per 1cm2

Must have: Using the data above, construct a bar graph

 Axis: correct axis with units
 Point: correct points plotted
 Shape: correct shape

Technique:
Type of graphs Specification
Bar graph If significant integer is
before decimal places (ex:
54.89, 57.20): round off to
nearest integer (ex: 55, 57)

If significant integer is after

decimal places (ex: 0.01,
0.05, 0.027), round off to
one significant figure (ex:
0.01, 0.05, 0.03)

Other graphs Draw a smooth graph if

possible
Do not extrapolate
