If you are reading this guide right now, it simply means that you have experienced with
setting goals, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work out for you or yet to accomplish many
of them.

This is exactly what is happening to most people. They set the goals they desire to
achieve, be it in their career, family, relationship, or finance, but somehow, they did not
achieve their goals.

And yet, most successful gurus claimed that goal setting is one of the most powerful
tools available freely for anyone to leverage on.

In my opinion, goal setting is both the most underrated and overrated tool for success.

When you use the technique right, it can bring you tremendous wealth, abundance,
fulfillment, and able to make your dreams a reality.

On the contrary, when you use the technique wrongly, not only you will fail to achieve
the goals you set, the process can make you feel inferior, lose confidence, and never
dare to expect for something better again.

So you see, goal setting is a double-edged sword.

For those who are applying the technique in a right way, they will move toward their
goals and accomplish the results they desire. And for those who don’t, the opposite may
happen.

The key is this – how do you achieve your goals? How do make sure what you do is
correct so that you can accomplish your goals?

And the answer, my friend, lies within this guide. This is also the reason you are reading
this right now.

I’m going to share with you one simple technique that you can apply immediately, to
help you focus better on what you want, to make you more motivated, and eventually,
help you achieve your goals.

2
However, before I share with you this technique, I wanted to share a couple of real-life
stories of how these successful people made it by the power of setting goals.

Does Goal Setting Really Work?

You have probably heard the stories of how successful people such as celebrities who,
before they became famous and attain amazing results in their career as they are today,
wrote down their dreams and goals.

How this Young Comedian Achieve Stardom in Hollywood

Jim Carrey is a famous Hollywood actor, but he did not start out as a successful actor in
his career.

Around 1990, when Jim Carrey was a struggling young Canadian comic trying to make
his way in Los Angeles, he drove his old Toyota up to Mulholland Drive. While sitting
there looking at the city below and dreaming of his future, he wrote himself a check for
$10 million, dated it Thanksgiving 1995, added the notation “for acting services
rendered,” and carried it in his wallet from that day forth.

The rest, as they say, is history. Carrey’s optimism and tenacity eventually paid off, and
by 1995, after the huge box office success of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and
Dumb & Dumber, his asking price had risen to $20 million per picture. When Carrey’s
father died in 1994, he placed the $10 million check into his father’s coffin as a tribute
to the man who had both started and nurtured his dreams of being a star.

How the Dilbert becomes the Most Syndicated Comic

Scott Adams is the creator of the comic, Dilbert. Before he became successful with his
comic, Adams worked as a lowly technology worker in a cubicle in corporate America.
He always doodles at his office desk because of his passion to draw.

3
And then one day, he started to write this phrase down, "I will become a syndicated
cartoonist", for fifteen times a day. Adams continued to draw and through many
rejections, somehow magic happened. He was approached by a publisher and his dream
came true. Adams signed a contract for his comic strip to be syndicated.

After that incident, he changed his intention and started to write, "I will be the best
cartoonist on the planet". Again, he wrote it for fifteen times a day, every day.

Today, the Dilbert comic strip is syndicated in almost 2,000 newspapers worldwide. The
Dilbert Zone website gets over 100,000 visitors a day and Adams' first book, The Dilbert
Principle, sold more than 1.3 million copies. Merchandise such as mouse pads, coffee
cups, and desk calendars based on Dilbert characters are everywhere. And the Dilbert
comic can even be seen on a weekly TV show.

Scott Adams writes about this on his blog at blog.dilbert.com. And he says that when
you write down your goals, "you'll observe things happening that will make that
objective more likely to materialize."

Even Bruce Lee Understands the Power of Setting Goals

Bruce Lee is considered one of the greatest martial artists to have ever lived. And the
amazing part about Bruce Lee was that he understood the power of setting goals and
creating intentions. If you ever get a chance to visit Planet Hollywood in New York City,
look at the letter hanging on the wall that Bruce Lee wrote to himself.

It is dated January 9, 1970. You can find these words written by Bruce Lee himself:

“By 1980 I will be the best known Oriental movie star in the United States and will have
secured $10 million dollars…. And in return, I will give the very best acting I could
possibly give every single time I am in front of the camera and I will live in peace and
harmony.”

Bruce then went on to make three films and his last film was "Enter the Dragon", which
was released in the same year of his untimely death. Bruce's movies became a huge
success and achieved worldwide fame for him.

4
Suze Orman’s Experience with Goal Setting

Suze Orman, the financial wizard and the author of several books including the #1 New
York Times bestseller, “The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom”, tells how she started out.

She says that she got a job at Merrill Lynch and was terrified she would not be able to
meet her sales quota. The most she had ever made up until then was about four
hundred dollars a month working as a waitress in a restaurant.

Here's what she says, "I created what I wanted for myself first on paper. Every morning
before I went to work, I would write over and over again: 'I am young, powerful, and
successful, producing at least $10,000 a month.'" And this was way before she became
financially successful.

Guess what, Susan Orman's act of writing down her goals have helped her materialized
what she wanted.

The BIG IDEA behind Goal Setting

I can continue to show you story after story of how people successfully achieve what
they want in life through the power of setting goals.

And there is one thing I would like you to understand. And it is this – Goal setting works.

If you fail to achieve your goals or if you think your goals are not working for you, it is
because YOU DID NOT WORK, not because your goals don’t work, but you’re the one
that doesn’t work.

Have you ever wonder why goal setting works?

Everything in life is goal. And your goals are your intention. They are your purpose and
the reason why you do what you do.

5
You are reading this right now because you have a goal, an intention, or a purpose. And
your intention is to learn the technique how you can achieve your goals, in an absolute
way.

You may have heard the phrase “intentional success”. And this is exactly how goal
setting works.

When you set a goal, you are indirectly setting your intention to achieve a certain result
in your life that is yet to realize at the current moment.

In other words, you are creating the future you want in your mind and you concentrate
your energy and pour in your effort to work on that future that you desire.

Now, the problem is that what you want is in the future, it is not at this current moment.

Take losing weight as an example. People who want to lose weight may imagine
themselves having a perfect weight that they want and they imagine working out and
exercising in the gym.

These are all great, but there is one problem. And this problem is that their imagination
and the results that they want are in the future, not this moment.

This will create a gap between your current reality and the future result that you want.

And my friend, this gap is what makes your goals a reality or a failure.

How Our Brains Work

Let's just pretend that you are a zebra. You live in the grassland of the Africa plains. You
have black and white stripes on your body and you can run fast. For you as a zebra, this
is what you will do:

 When you are hungry, you walk over and munch on a tree.
 When a storm rolls across the plains, you take shelter under the bush.
 When you spot a lion, you run away from danger to avoid getting killed.

6
If you notice, as a zebra, everything that you do, such as what you eat or where you
sleep, gives you an immediate impact on your life.

And scientist calls this the "immediate return environment". Your actions, such as eating
leaves will give you immediate benefits that fulfill your desire, which is hunger.

Now, my friend, time to return to reality as a human. And as a human being, most of our
decisions are based on what scientist calls the "delayed return environment".

Most of the choices and decisions you make today will not yield you the benefits and
results you immediately. For example:

 When you deliver a good job today, you'll get a paycheck weeks later, or your
boss raises your salary months later.
 If you save money right now, you may have enough for retirement, which
happens years later (ever wonder why most people don't save money now?).
 If you start a business now, it may take years to see the return and the reward.

Can you relate these activities to your goals now? When you set goals, you are creating
an intention for the things that you want in the future, not immediately.

And because our brain was designed to value immediate return, we tend to lose track
and sabotage the goals we set.

This is why you will feel like no motivation to act on your goals. Your action is immediate,
but the result comes later. Your brain doesn't value this and hence, you feel no
motivation to work on your goals.

Centuries ago when humans still lived in caves, the immediate return environment was
helpful.

 When you see a lion, you feel stressed, you run away, and your stress is relieved.
 When the storm comes, you hide in a cave as a shelter, and your worry is gone.
 When you are hungry, you hunt for food, and the hunger is gone.

7
In today's world, things are different. Very much different. You will worry if you have
enough money to pay the bills for next month. You wonder if your hard work will be
paid off in your job. And more importantly, you are unsure and doubtful if your goals
will come to you.

This is the reason most people fail to accomplish their goals.

How then, can you overcome this problem? How did those successful celebrities like Jim
Carrey, Bruce Lee, Suze Orman, and Scott Adams are able to pull it off and accomplish
their goals and produce amazing success in life?

And the answer is in this one simple technique that I’m going to share with you.

Introducing… ACTIVE GOAL SETTING!

Steve Jobs did not set goals, but somehow he managed to achieve stellar success in his
life. Bruce Lee and Jim Carrey did not practice writing down their goals every single day,
but somehow, they are able to produce amazing results in their filming career too.
Richard Branson carries a notebook with him wherever he goes and he will write down
whatever ideas that go to him. Despite going through without setting or writing down
his goals, Branson becomes a billionaire and a successful entrepreneur.

Here’s one question I want to ask, is it necessary for people to write down their goals
every single day like Scott Adams and Suze Orman did in order to achieve their goals?

The answer is a big no. Richard Branson did not. Bruce Lee and Jim Carrey did not too.

However, they shared a common trait, which led them to their success and achieves
their intentions (goals).

Perhaps, Winston Churchill says it well:

“Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.”

8
The key to success and the key to achieving whatever goals you want to accomplish in
your life is…

You MUST “ACTIVELY” PURSUE your goals.

The keyword here is ACTIVE. And this is why I called this technique, “Active Goal
Setting”.

Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba and one of the richest men in China, once told the
audience in a talk that his wife said he did not belong to her, he belongs to Alibaba.

Jack went on to explain why his wife said so. And he said that it was because he
constantly thinks about his business, how to grow it, how to overcome the problems,
etc., and he simply cannot take the thought of running his business out of his head. He
thinks about it all the time. He thinks about it when he walks, he talks about it, he
dreams about it, he breathes it, sleeps with it, and live with it.

If you follow this guide from the beginning up to now, you should understand that goals
are intentions. And what Jack Ma did is that he is creating the intention in his mind, on a
consistent basis.

Jim Carry and Bruce Lee may not write down their goals like how Scott Adams and Suze
Orman did, but they are living in their goals. They have the intention in their head.

Richard Branson and Steve Jobs may not set goals, but they do have the idea of what
they want to achieve in their head, all the time.

And this is what I mean by Active Goal Setting.

The Misconception about Goal Setting

Goal setting should be something active, and not passive. Most people get the wrong
idea by thinking that goal setting is an act of writing down what they want.

9
Well, they may be right, goal setting IS the act of writing down what you want, but
achieving your goals is a completely different activity.

So don’t be mistaken in thinking that all you need to do to achieve your goals is to write
down your goals.

Please allow me to further explain because this is extremely important. If you are able
to grasp this idea, you can definitely achieve whatever goals you set.

You see, most people thought that goal setting is about writing down what they want
onto the paper. This is only half of the equation.

Yes, writing down your goals does help you in achieving them, but what is more
important is that you need to be ACTIVE in the progress.

Why Law of Attraction Doesn’t Work for Most People

The same goes with the Law of Attraction (LOA). Now I’m not against the idea of LOA,
but too many people are buying into the wrong idea by thinking that all they need to do
is to visualize and think about what they want, and the results will come.

If this is what you believe, I’m sorry to say that this is highly likely not going to happen.

The money will never fall from the sky into your bank account no matter how hard you
imagine it. It requires active work, my friend.

You can visualize driving your dream car, but if you are not actively doing something,
guess what, you will never manifest your dream car into reality.

Enough about LOA, focus on Active Goal Setting instead.

Remember, you need to be active with your goals and constantly engaging with them.
That, my friend, is the key to achieving your goals.

10
The 3 Elements of Active Goal Setting

1. SMALL is the New BIG

When it comes to achieving outstanding success in life, a lot of people have the wrong
perception and think that success is such a big thing that is hard to achieve. And most
people think that all they need is just one single opportunity to get there.

Let me tell you the truth. Success is neither one big thing nor one big decision. Success is
the combination of many small things that we do every single day.

Take a look at the picture above this text. It is a picture of the famous actor, Brad Pitt.

Do you think you are able to draw or replicate his face?

11
Well, if you say that you can’t because you’re not an artist, or even if you are an artist it
will still be extremely challenging to draw such a great picture.

Now, I don’t blame you if you don’t know how to replicate this picture because I don’t
know how to do it too.

However, I want to share with you a simple technique of how you can draw and
replicate Brad Pitt’s picture, in less 30 seconds. Interested?

Now, take a look at this small solid grey color square below.

Do you think you’re able to replicate or draw this? You can, right? This is going to be
easy and simple to do. And everyone can do it.

The idea is that if you can draw and replicate this solid grey square, you can draw and
replicate the picture of Brad Pitt as what I have shown you above.

How do you do that? Simple, if you can draw one grey square, you can draw two, four,
eight, sixteen, and more. Just like below:

12
13
Do you get it now? Do you see the pattern? If you can draw a simple grey square, you
can draw a picture of Brad Pitt.

Of course, for a rookie, drawing a beautiful picture is still a very challenging task, but
drawing a small grey square is easy and anyone can do it.

This is exactly what Chuck Close did. Chuck is an American painter and photographer
who achieved fame as a photorealist through his massive-scale portraits.

So here lies the principle to achieving any of the goals that you set…

14
Be the Master of Small Decisions and Actions

You don’t have to worry about achieving the big goals, all you need to do is to focus on
getting the small things done, and the big things will take care of themselves.

Like drawing the picture of Brad Pitt above, all you need to do is to zoom in to the
smallest details and work on them. You break the picture into small grey squares and
then work on the squares.

The more you draw the squares, the more you will have and when you accumulate all of
them into one piece, you will get the complete picture.

Just like writing a book. You don’t have to write the whole book all at once. You just
need to focus on getting the chapters done. And how do you do that? By writing one
sentence at a time. The sentences will grow and become paragraphs, and paragraphs
will combine and become chapters. This is how you write a book.

And this is exactly how you should approach your goals too. Break your goals down into
small and achievable and actionable steps.

Active Goal Setting is all about staying engaged with your goals. No matter what you do,
you must make sure you are doing something to engage with your goals each day.

You can dream about your goals, you can study how to achieve them, you can create
plans and schedule your tasks, or better yet, you can take actions to move forward each
day.

When you engage with your goals, you are mastering the small decisions and actions
every day. And this is why it is called “active”, and not passive.

Steve Jobs did not write his goals every single day, but he constantly thought and acted
on his goals. He was active and engaged. The same goes with Jack Ma.

It doesn’t matter if you’re not writing down your goals every single day, but you must do
something to engage with your goals and make sure you condition your mind to achieve

15
them. (Of course, if you choose to write down your goals every day, the effect will be
much better.)

Practice the One-Minute Rule

Anyone can commit to working on their goals for a minute. The key here is to make sure
that you get started on the small thing.

If you are going to write an article, come up with the title. If you want to go for jogging,
just get changed. If you want to make it a habit to read, read for just one minute.

Whatever you want to do, get it started for just one minute. This method works,
especially in overcoming procrastination because it basically breaks down the task into
such a small piece that anyone can do it effortlessly.

Too often, we try to tackle the entire project and this is what overwhelms us. Think
about it, if you have to write a 5,000 words article, it will take you the whole day to do
so. Some even need a few days to complete a 5,000 words article.

This is what causes most people to procrastinate. They are overwhelmed by the project.
They will do whatever they can to delay and give excuse NOT to do it.

However, with the one-minute rule, things will be different. It breaks down the task into
simple and effortless action that you can do right away.

Once you work on your goal for just one minute, trust me, you will have built up the
momentum and you will NOT stop after one minute. You will do more.

It is human nature to want to do more and to expect to get results fast (remember the
immediate return environment). This is why weight loss pills and get-rich-quick schemes
still sell like hotcakes.

People want quick fixes and they want an immediate result. And this is also why people
choose to procrastinate when it comes to achieving their goals, which are the future
results.

16
Do you think Bill Gates built Microsoft in just a day? Do you think Richard Branson
became a billionaire in a month? Rome was not built in a day, my friend.

Success is going to take time and you have to be patient with it.

This is why the one-minute rule is so powerful. It helps build your habit rather than
giving you quick fixes that will fail you in the end.

Now, you don’t really have to follow exactly and do it for just a minute. The principle is
that you have to start small, but it does not really need to be a minute.

For instance, you can start with a mere 10 minutes or 15 minutes. If you want to write
an article, start with 10 minutes. Write for about 10 minutes a day. This will build your
habit to write.

The same goes for reading. If you want to build the habit of reading each day, start with
just 15 minutes a day. Or if you find this challenging, lower the level and make it just 5
minutes a day. I believe everyone can read for just 5 minutes a day, no matter if you are
busy or not.

You have to make the task as simple and as effortless as possible. You want to make it
so easy to do that you will never think twice or even have the thought about
procrastinating it.

In the beginning, you start small. Once you have accustomed to it, grow your habit and
spend more time on it.

You can start with reading for 15 minutes a day. After a week, you can make it into 20
minutes or even 30 minutes a day. Start small and grow.

Actionable Items:

Small is the new BIG. Learn to master the small decisions and actions. Use the One-
Minute Rule to help you build the right productive habit that will get you the results. It is
perfectly alright to start small, slow, and steady.

17
Any big goal worthy to achieve requires your determination and patience. You may not
achieve your goal of earning a million-dollar this year, but you can definitely achieve it
slowly and steadily. You may not have the time to write the entire book or build a
successful website right now, but you can pour in little efforts consistently. Over time,
you will definitely have the book written and build the successful website you want.

This is how successful people achieve outstanding results in life. This is how life works.

2. Repetition
The second element of Active Goal Setting is repetition.

When was the last time you wrote down your goals or review them? Tony Robbins, the
world #1 success coach says it perfectly, “Repetition is the mother of all skills”.

The problem with most people who fail to achieve their goals is that they only do it once.
They write down their goals only once and they expect to accomplish what they want in
life.

And according to studies, most people will set their New Year resolutions by the end of
the year, and by early January, most people will have already broken their goals without
doing according to their plans. This is if they even bother writing down their goals.

You see, I once heard Tony says that goal setting is a skill. And if you want to get good at
something or improve your skill, you must train and repeat the process over and over
again.

Just like how basketball players learn to dribble, to dunk, and to shoot. They will train
themselves to shoot from every angle in many locations throughout the court.

Sadly, most people only practice writing their goals once. And it is even worse if they
didn’t even write their goals and prefer to keep their goals in their head.

Do you expect to hit the gym once and you will have the perfect slim and fit body? Do
you think you can become a great tennis player like Agassi if you only train for a day or
two?

18
Come on, we have to face the reality. Goal setting is a skill. And if you want to get good
at achieving your goals, you must practice it, over and over again.

This is why Scott Adams chooses to write down his goals fifteen times a day. If you read
Brian Tracy’s books, you will see that he suggests his readers writing down their goals
every single day, like what Suze Orman does.

My friend, this doesn’t mean that you have to write down your goals every single day,
but if you’re going to do it, it will be great.

What repetition means is that you have to repeatedly engage and get active with your
goals.

You have to consistently “install” the idea of achieving your goals into your subconscious
mind. You have to think about what you want regularly. You have to remind yourself of
your goals.

Why Repetition, Practice, and Training are Important

Techniques such as visualization, vision boards, and affirmations are helpful in this. The
more you remind yourself or imagine the achievement of your goals, the better your
neurons (your brain cells) will connect and able to create a better neural pathway and
thus, “attract” you the necessary resources and opportunity to you.

In fact, the opportunity and resources are always there, it is just that most people are
not trained to discover the opportunity around them.

When your flight is canceled and you will have to wait for the next flight, what will you
do? Most people will treat it as a problem and there is nothing much that they can do
about it.

Richard Branson chose to do otherwise. And that was how he started his Virgin Airlines.
He was stranded in the airport due to flight cancellation. However, with his
entrepreneurial spirit and mindset, he chartered a private plane and sold off all the
tickets to other passengers who were stranded there too.

19
As you can see, the event and the situation remain the same, but when you are trained
to look for opportunities, your mind will search for them and you will discover the
goldmine.

I remembered watching a short video clip from Grant Cardone, a successful

entrepreneur, and training expert. And in the video, he was walking down a high-end
street with luxury and branded stores on both sides.

And then he went on to say something that truly opened my mind. He said that most
people will think about shopping and what to buy when they walk on that street, but
not him. When he walked across that street, he saw golden opportunities and ways how
he can build businesses to profit there.

This is why repetition and improving your skills are important. You want to train yourself
to become the person worthy of your goals.

Become the Person Worthy of Your Goals

You see, the goals that you want are bigger than your current level. And as what we
have discussed before, the goals you want are in the future, not in the present.
Therefore, you have to work yourself to become the right person with the right
characters and traits in order to accomplish them.

Let’s make it simple, if you want to earn a million dollar a year, you must become the
person worthy of earning that amount of money. You must equip yourself with the
million-dollar mindset and characteristic before you can hit that goal, right?

Unfortunately, most people don’t look at it this way. They thought that they can
become a millionaire and earn a million dollar a year with their current abilities, which is
likely not going to happen. This is because if they have the ability to earn a million dollar,
they would have done that already, don’t you think so?

Hence, practice and train yourself to be the person that you desire to be. When you
developed the right mindset and characters, the result will come to you automatically.

20
Here’s a meaningful picture that I shared on Facebook some time ago that perfectly
describes this concept:

Therefore, develop the mindset, habits, qualities, and characters of someone whom you
aspire to be. When you do, the result will come. It has to, because you have changed,
and things will be different.

So learn to improve yourself, every single day.

Actionable Items:

Here’s what you can do, practice the one-minute rule each day and improve your goal
setting skills by engaging with your goals every day. You can practice visualization,
affirmation, review your goals, write down your goals, talk about your goals, etc.

21
Whatever you do, make sure you are doing something to help you engage with your
goals so that you will be in the active mode and not passive.

Imagine if you write down your goals over and over again for 3 years, do you think this
will increase your chances of achieving them? The answer is obvious. So practice
repetition and improve your goal setting skill.

3. A Measurement System
The final element of Active Goal Setting is to have a measurement system. You see,
most people don’t measure their results. And if you don’t measure your progress, how
can you tell if you are moving forward, or going backward?

Let me ask you this: Do you measure your progress?

Now, be honest. You don’t have to tell me the answer, just answer it in your head. If
your answer is a NO and you don’t measure anything, you know what will happen to
your goals. There is a high chance that you are not going to hit them.

Most people talk about goal setting and they say that they are 100% committed to
achieving what they want, yet, they don’t even measure their progress.

And then they wonder why they fail to accomplish their goals.

Of course, I’m not being sarcastic and I don’t expect you to know about this too. Unless
you have read about this information elsewhere, you will always wonder why you’re
moving away from your goals instead of moving toward them.

When we talk about measurement, there are two things you need to understand.

1. Measure for Improvement

The things we measure are the things we improve. It is only through numbers and clear
tracking that we have an idea if we are getting better or worse.

22
While it is true that we simply can't measure everything in life:

 Love is important, but how do you measure it?

 Morality is important, but can it be quantified accurately?
 Finding meaning in our lives is essential, but how do you calculate it?

Perhaps, some things in life don't need to be measured. However, whatever that
appears to be important to you, you must create a system to measure it. This is
especially true with your goals, your finances, your career, and also your health.

Measuring every repetition might reduce the satisfaction and make it seem more like a
job. There is nothing wrong with that.

Measurement won't solve everything. It is not an ultimate answer to life. However, it is

a way to track something critical: are you showing up in the areas that you say are
important to you?

Have you ever wondered why some people train and practice for years, but they are not
going any further? For example, someone who jogs every single day for a decade may
not be a professional athlete, why is that?

If you swim every single day for an hour, after 10 years, will it make you as good as an
Olympic swimmer like Michael Phelps?

Not at all, but why is that? You have been practicing it for 10 years, so suppose your
skills will become better and better, right?

The answer is that you only practice for sake of repetition, and not DELIBERATE practice.

Most people train, practice and repeat the same thing every day. They only make their
skills permanent. If you want to improve and get better, according to researcher, you
need to commit to deliberate practice. And deliberate practice requires measurement.

Take jogging as the example again. Do you measure the distance you run? Do you
measure your heart rate and blood pressure? Do you count your breathing on an

23
interval? Do you measure how you mix run and walk? How often do you sprint and for
how long? Do you have a coach to guide you?

This is exactly what is happening to most people out there. They thought that as long as
they are doing it, they will get better. Not at all. If your run is like your previous run,
without measurement, you will never improve.

And this, my friend, is also the reason people fail to reach their goals. You need
improvement to achieve your goals. If you are doing the same thing, guess what, you
will be getting the same result, all the time!

No wonder people are staying at the same place even they set goals and understand
what they want to achieve in life, but they are not moving forward. Do you get it?

You need to have an aspect or a specific target that you want to improve so that you can
measure and produce better results.

2. Create a Compelling Scoreboard for the Game

Once you understand that whatever gets measured gets improved, what you then need
to do is to create a measurement board or a scoreboard.

I learned this from the book, The 4 Disciplines of Execution. It is a great book that I
suggest everyone read it.

When you see a group of kids playing basketball on the court in your neighborhood, can
you tell if they are keeping score? Yes, you can, by looking if they are seriously involving
in the games. You can tell from their moves and their desire to score even if you are far
away and can’t really hear them.

You see, people play the game differently when they are keeping score. It is not about
you keeping score for them, but they will act differently when they keep score.

And this is what you must do for your goals too.

24
You must create a compelling scoreboard not just to measure your progress and results,
but to also inspire you to play the game seriously so that you will be more committed to
winning the game.

When people are keeping score, they become engaged in the activities and the game.
They want to win. Obviously, nobody loves losing. That’s human nature, and the same
goes for you.

If you have been in sales before, you will understand why companies choose to send out
sales charts and figures of their sales people’s performance, to boost competition, and
to inspire them to do better.

That said, create a compelling scoreboard to keep track and measure your progress.

There are a couple of good pointers you should keep in mind when you are creating
your scoreboard.

1. Your scoreboard must be simple to update.

If possible, create a daily scoreboard so that you can see your performance every single
day. It works the same like a to-do list. If you think that updating it daily is too tedious,
go for weekly.

If your scoreboard is too difficult to update, it will kill your drive to update the score. So
make it simple and easy to use.

2. You must be able to tell at first glance, whether you are moving forward or not
progressing.

What you have to do is to create a player’s scoreboard and not a coach’s scoreboard.
You only need the details of where you want to improve, not everything about the game.

Think about sports like basketball and football, what does the scoreboard shows? The
current score, so that you can tell which team is winning, and the time remaining until
the game ends.

25
3. Your scoreboard must show your goal and the lead measure.

For example, if you are in sales and there is a sales target you want to achieve, the
scoreboard must display the number of sales you have made. This is common sense, but
there is another important figure the scoreboard needs to display, the lead measure.

A lead measure is a measure that is solely responsible to move you toward your goals. If
your sales are generated through cold calling your prospects, then your scoreboard
must show the number of cold calls you have done.

Your lead measure will be the factor that can predict the achievement of your goal, and
it is something that you can act on. Meaning to say, when you see that you are lagging
behind your goal, you can work on your lead measure (cold calls), to hit your goal.

Actionable Items:

What you need to do is pretty straightforward, just create a compelling scoreboard so

that you can measure your progress and be inspired to take action.

Final Words
I’m impressed that you are actually reading this. And I congratulate you for making it
this far. Do you know that most people who buy a book never reading past the first
chapter?

If you are reading up to this point, it simply shows that you are committed and
determined to achieve your goals.

Remember what you have learned and I sincerely hope that the concept of Active Goal
Setting can be a great help in your life.

26
I don’t expect your life to change completely from what you have learned here, but I do
hope that with the tips and suggestions you have read, you will be more inspired and
motivated to take action to achieve what you want in life.

Here’s what I want to say before you leave.

You can’t learn how to ride a bicycle by reading a book and I can’t do your pushups for
you.

First, if you want to achieve your goals, realize your dreams and live the life you have
always wanted, you must do something about it. Reading this guidebook alone will only
equip you with the potential, but not the action. You must execute what you have
learned to produce what you want in life.

While I can share with you and show you the ideas, tips, and suggestions, but I can’t
achieve your goals for you. I can’t do your pushups for you. And if did, I’m the one who
will get the results, not you, right?

Therefore, you’ll have to walk this journey on your own.

This may sound a little cruel, but this is how life works. This is your life and you have to
take full responsibility for it.

You have to learn to be the master of your own life and take action to achieve whatever
dreams and goals you want.

Having said all that, I wish you the best on your journey to success and I believe that you
can definitely achieve all your goals and live the life that you have always dreamed
about!

Conclusion
Let us recap what you’ve learned from this guidebook and how you can implement the
“Active Goal Setting” technique into your life right now.

27
1. Break down your goals into small and actionable steps, and then take action on those
tiny steps each day.

As what you have learned above, “Small is the new big,” and success is about all the
small decisions and actions you have made in your life up to this point, not so much
about the big bold decision that totally change your life forever.

So be the master of little details. Break down your goals and then follow the One-
Minute Rule and take action consistently to build habits that will get you what you want.

2. Aim for repetition and improvement. There’s no way success will come to you by just
taking one action. You need to repeat and accumulate the results you get.

You’re not going to lose 10 pounds by hitting the gym only once. There is no way you
can build a multi-million dollar business by just spending an hour into your business.

What you need is consistency. You have to do the work over, and over, and over again
until you produce the result you desire.

Plus, make sure you look for ways to constantly improve and do better. Repetition itself
is not going to work out great without improvement. Study, read, and learn from other
successful models and strive to do better no matter what industry you’re in.

3. Create a compelling scoreboard and measure your progress. If you can’t measure it,
there is no way you can tell if you are making progress or falling behind.

Furthermore, seeing yourself improving, making progress and getting closer toward
your goals each day is one of the most satisfying things to do.

It boosts your confidence and also builds your commitment to go further.

Finally, remember that Active Goal Setting is all about being “active” with your goals.
You need to create the engagement between you and your goals.

28
If you’re just going to set the goals and forget about them or not doing anything about
them, guess what, it is not active goal setting, it is “dead” goal setting.

So be active and stay active with your goals.

I hope this guidebook and the technique I have shared with you inspires and gets you
closer to the success that you want.

I wish you all the best and MAY YOUR GOALS BE WITH YOU.

"Goals:
There's no telling what you can do when you get inspired by them.
There's no telling what you can do when you believe in them.
And there's no telling what will happen when you act upon them."
- Jim Rohn
