ERGONOMIC LIGHTING POLICY

Sentinel Plastic Mfg. Corp. stand committed to create a culture that promotes health and safety
practices, safe and conducive working environment and to advocate a vision conservation program
that contributes on a healthy and productive workforce.

The company is developing an ergonomic lighting policy (vision conservation program) to


maintain a safe working environment, good visual condition and to prevent the possible visual
impairment of its employees by eliminating the causes of inadequate lighting.

The following principles serve as guide of the company in forming its strategies to this end:

I. DEFINITIONS OF TERMS

 ERGONOMIC ISSUES - Points of concern regarding ability to fit the workplace to the worker's
needs.
 ERGONOMIC LIGHTING - Relationship between the individual and the light source
 INADEQUATE LIGHTING –
 VISUAL IMPAIRMENT - Eye illness which may results to visual impairment
 WORKSITE EVALUATIONS- Assessment of the workplace in order to improve the fit between
the worker and the work environment (workplace)

II. PURPOSE

The objective of this policy is to protect all workers from illness and injuries as well as to maintain
a high level of productivity and quality of our products.

III. IMPLEMENTING STRUCTURE

The Ergonomic Lighting Policy (Visual Conservation Program) shall be managed by the Health
and Safety Committee with the help of the Top Management of Sentinel Plastic Mfg. Corp. The
Management Team is committed to the success of this program by providing resources and
the staff time necessary to identify and correct the problems.

IV. Education

A. Coverage: All employees regardless of employment status shall have knowledge / awareness
of the implications of inadequate lighting on their health and work performance through
having orientation, lectures and trainings.
 Regular employees
 Professional employees
 Contractual employees
V. Preventive Strategies

A. All regular employees are encouraged to participate in annual eye check-up provided by the
company.
B. Sentinel Plastic Mfg Corp. Commits to have a quarterly checking of Working Environment
Measurement (WEM) per work area/location for proper monitoring of lighting condition.
C. Sentinel Plastic Mfg. Corp shall maintain the good condition and cleanliness of the lights
per location
D. Provide orientations/ lecture/ training about ergonomic lighting including health related tips
and musculoskeletal other health conditions that may occur due to inadequate lighting.

VI. Social Policy

A. Non-discriminatory Policy
1. There shall be no discrimination of any form against employees on the basis of their visual
impairment(Conditions). Employees shall not be discriminate against from pre to post
employment including:
1.1 Hiring,
1.2 Promotion of employees
1.3 Transfer of job assignment
2. Workplace management of sick employees shall not differ from that of any other illness.
The person with visual related illness may work for as long as they are medically fit to work

B. Confidentiality
1. Job applicants and employees shall not be compelled to disclose their visual conditions and
other related medical information to his co-workers. Access to personal data relating to
employees visual impairment status shall be bound by the rules of confidentiality and shall
be strictly limited to medical personnel or if legally required.

C. Work Accommodation and Agreement


1. The company shall take measures to reasonably accommodate employees who has visual–
related illness
2. Through agreements made between management and employee representatives, measures to
support employees with visual impairment are encourage to work through flexible leave
arrangements, rescheduling of working time, transferring of department assignment.

D. Screening, Diagnosis, Treatment and Referral to Health Care Services


1. The company shall establish a referral system and provide access to diagnostic and
treatment services for its employees for appropriate medical evaluation/monitoring and
management.
E. Compensation.
1. The company shall provide access to Social Security System and Employees
Compensation and Benefits.

VII. Responsibility of Concerned Person

A. Responsibility of Top Management


1. It is the responsibility of Top Management to ensure that employees are equipped with
proper knowledge through proving trainings/seminars about ergonomic lighting.
2. It is the responsibility of Top Management to provide resources and support the applicable
Health and Safety programs, activities and campaigns to promote vision conservation to all
employees.
3. It is the responsibility of Top Management to conduct an annual review of policies and their
effectiveness and efficiency.

B. Responsibility of Health and Safety Officer/ Health and Safety Committee / Company Nurse
1. It is the responsibility of the Health and Safety Officer/ Health and Safety Committee /
Company Nurse to continuously identify the health hazard in the workplace caused by
inadequate lighting
2. It is the responsibility Health and Safety Officer/ Health and Safety Committee / Company
Nurse to ensure that PPE are appropriately identifies, properly issued and consistently used.
3. It is the responsibility of the Health and Safety Officer/ Health and Safety Committee /
Company Nurse to review the effectiveness and efficiency of the existing programs and
activities annually to check applicability and validity.
4. It is the responsibility of Health and Safety Officer / Health and Safety Committee /
Company Nurse to elevate and take actions, propose new and applicable policies necessary
to solidify activities and programs promoting Visual Conservation Program

C. Responsibility of Supervisor
1. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to assist the H&S Officer to implement Visual
Conservation Program
2. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to document and report potential hazards to health
and safety of the workplace due to inadequate lighting

D. Responsibility of Employees
1. It is the responsibility of the employee to adhere the ergonomic lighting policies to ensure
health and safety at the workplace
2. It is the responsibility of the employee to report immediately the potential light hazards to
his superior
3. It is the responsibility of the employee to consistently use his/her officially issued PPEs
 Goggles
 Welding Mask
VIII. EVALUATION, IMPLEMENTATION AND MONITORING
Within the establishment, the implementation of the policy and program shall be monitored and
evaluated periodically. The safety and health committee or its counterpart shall be tasked for this
purposes.

POLICY IMPLEMENTATION STEPS (kailangan pa bang isama?)


This policy applies to all workers. The Health & Safety Committee, Top Management (any
relevant personnel), are available to assist departments in:

 Identifying ERGONOMIC ISSUES


Step 1: Look for the Hazards
Step 2: Decide who might be harmed and how
Step 3: Evaluate the risk
Step 4: Record the findings
 Training workers and team members on the ERGONOMIC ISSUES identified
and recommended practices.
 Implement Solutions
 Proving Resources
 Monitoring of action taken

IX. EFFECTIVITY
This policy shall take effect immediately and shall be made known to all employees.
