    This experiment aims to demonstrate the operation and use of a Triac as a phase controller. Students will connect a Triac, potentiometer, AC source, and lamp in a circuit.     2. To use Triac as phase controller.

    Equipments and Materials


    Qty Equipment/Materials
    1 10 kohms potentiometer
    1 AC source
    1 Oscilloscope
    2 Triac
    2 Lamp
    1 Breadboard
    8 Alligator clips
    1 set Connecting wires

    Procedures
    A. Relay

    1. Connect the circuit below.

    Rp
    2. Set Rp to maximum. What happened? ____________________________________
    ___________________________________________________________________
    3. Turn to knob of Rp to decrease its value. Describe what is happening?

    ___________________________________________________________________
    4. Set Rp to minimum. What happened? ____________________________________
    ___________________________________________________________________

    5. Set Rp to the middle value. Using the oscilloscope, plot the waveform across the AC
    source.

    6. Then plot the waveform across the triac. Compare the waveform from the AC source
    and describe your observation.

    7. Then plot the waveform across the lamp. Compare the waveform from the AC
    source and describe your observation.
