2. BEMAINSTALLER – BEMATECH DRIVERS INSTALLER

BemaInstaller allows for the installation of scalable and regular (non

scalable) spooler drivers, for both Bematech POS (Mini) Printers and Kiosk
Printers.

Non Scalable or Regular Spooler Driver

A “Regular” or “Non Scalable” spooler driver prints images and

information in the size and scale they were originally sent, and information to
be printed will be limited to the width of paper used by your Bematech printer.
I.E.: if you have a 100mm width formatted image to be printed only the first
80mm counted from the page’s left border will print. Otherwise, if you
configure your document and application to use 80mm width paper, you will
print exactly what you see on screen.

Scalable Spooler Driver

A “Scalable” spooler driver resizes the information you see through

reduction of original interpreted size. This is especially useful for applications
that don’t have image or information resize options. The “scalable” spooler
drivers resize original printing information at scales of 25% or 50%. I.E.: your
originally sized 100mm width image will print at 75mm or 50mm width using
the “scalable” drivers. The reduction scale (25% or 50%) may be chosen from
your spooler driver “Advanced” options.

To install a driver, just choose it from the main screen by selecting the
printer model and the communication port. Click the “Continue” button.

POS (Mini Printer) and Kiosk Printer drivers, sorted by

model, driver type (normal or scalable printing), and paper
size.

For example, let’s install the driver for regular printing choosing the MP-
2100 TH printer model and 76mm paper width. Please select the “MP-2100 TH”
menu option. To install this driver, click the “Continue” button.
After selection of model, driver type and paper size, the printer port
configuration must be chosen. Even though Serial, Parallel, USB and
Ethernet/WiFi interfaces are present at the installation program, only the
interfaces supported in each printer will appear. In or example, the MP-2100
TH printer has Serial and Parallel port options whilst USB and Ethernet/WiFi are
not available.
Please refer to your Bematech Printer’s user’s manual for details on the
communication interfaces supported.
NOTE: You have to install a printer using BemaInstaller if you want to use a
parallel or USB port for Bematech printers for the first time.

BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

The Bematech MP-4000 TH miniprinter allows different paper sizes with

different printing widths for each paper. The printing width is set to the
maximum that the choosen paper width allows, following the table:

Paper width Default printing width

58 mm 48 mm
76 mm 72 mm
80 mm 76 mm
82.5 mm 80 mm

BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Form to Tray Assignment

Shows the thermal receipt paper widths. Values from 58mm to 112mm
are available, depending on your printer model. There are two versions of an
paper width: one which set normal paper size (height) of 15 cm, and other
that set a larger paper size of 30 cm. The paper choosen here is the one that
will be used for rendering and printing.

BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

As mentioned earlier, the MP-4000 TH miniprinter offers the paper based

on printing witdh, not paper width. This is shown below:

BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Paper Cut
Shows paper cut method the printer will perform. It may be full (Full cut),
partial (Partial cut) or none (No cut). The cut is made after all the printing job
has been done. This setting will have no effect on printers without a cutter.
Please refer to your equipment manual.

14 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Print Density
Varies from Lowest (very low) to Highest (very high). The lower the
document print density, the faster the printing performs.

Print Density: default value is “Default” for the driver,

which means printer default (“Normal” or any other
configured in the printer).

15 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Open Cash Drawer

This attribute specifies if the cash drawer must be opened or not and is
presented only for miniprinters. The opening will be done after printing job has
finished (including configured paper cut). Please, consult your equipment
manual to know how to attach a cash drawer in it.

Open Cash Drawer: default value is “No”, which means that

cash drawer must be not opened.

16 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

EndDoc Line Feeds

This attribute specifies the number of line feeds to be done after the
receipt is printed. The default value is 2 line feeds.

17 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Device Type
Options are Kiosk Printer or Mini Printer (POS Printer). This is particularly
useful for serial (RS232) printers, since it indicates which hardware flow
control must be used (DTR/DSR for kiosk printers and RTS/CTS for
miniprinters).
If you intend to use a MP-4000 TH printer with a DB25 interface
and configured to interpret ESC/POSTM commands, you must set this option to
“Kiosk Printer”, because the automatically printer changes its flow control do
DTR/DSR. Please, refer to programmers manual for further information.

18 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Data Compression
This option allows for data compression of blank spaces when sending
printing commands to printer, with quicker data transmission depending on
how much “white” the original image has. Most Bematech kiosk printers
support this option – however, it should be disabled for the KC-4112 models
with part number 6200 and 6300, as these printer models do not support the
data compression option.

19 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

After setting configuration options, go to the “General” tab and click

“Printing Preferences” to set some more options. A window opens to define
page layout and paper/quality.

1 Click the “Advanced” button to set printer advanced options.

20 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

4. ADVANCED OPTIONS

“Paper Size”, “Copy Count”, “Advanced Printing Features” and

“Halftoning” options are present.

Paper Size
Shows and set the printer used paper size. Besides all available pre-defined
paper sizes (of 15 cm and 30 cm heights), it is possible to create custom sizes
even to a 2 m paper height, which means that a page can be 2 m long.

21 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Copy Count
Number of copies to print:

22 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Print Quality
This option changes printing scale to 50% (One Half Scale) or 25% (One
Quarter Scale) of the image size in relation to the original printed image size.

23 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Advanced Printing Features

Affects the way the spooler driver keeps printing files. If enabled, saves
printing files in EMF format, which may be used for reliable printing in other
devices. If disabled, saves printing data as RAW (the printer specific format).
The Advanced Printing Features option is mostly used by network
administrators and should be set in its default setting in the majority of the
applications.

24 - 26
BEMAINSTALLER – Rev.1.2

Halftoning
The halftoning technique used to print images. “Auto Select”, “Super
Cell”, “Dither 6x6” and “Dither 8x8” are available.

Halftoning is a technique that allows for reproduction of grayscale and

color tones on monochromatic printers (such as thermal or laser printers), by
reproducing color or grayscale tones as a series of dots. Darker tones are
printed with larger, denser groups of dots. Lighter tones are printed with
smaller dots, spaced further apart.
There is not a standard “formula” that guarantees perfect image
reproductions. The “Super Cell” halftoning method usually brings the best
results. However, the quality of the image reproduction depends on the
original image type and halftoning process used to print that image.
High contrast images tend to get better defined in monochromatic
printings. Images with several colors or gray tones, nuances and low contrast
tend to lose detail in a monochromatic printing.
