Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Korg KingKORG synthesizer.
To help you get the most out of your new instrument, please read this manual carefully. Don’t forget to store
it when you’re done for future reference.

What is the KingKORG Sound Librarian?


The KingKORG Sound Librarian lets you easily sort through the KingKORG programs, edit the favorites and
save the data on your computer.
In addition, the Sound Librarian lets you Tweet to the preset program information and display the disclosed
Tweet to others who are linked to Twitter.

Caution
Do not disconnect your KingKORG or power off the unit while the KingKORG Sound Librarian is running.
Do not use your KingKORG or the KingKORG Sound Librarian while any data is being transmitted.
A valid Twitter account is required for enabling the linked function to Twitter.

Operating requirements
A computer that satisfies OS requirements and a USB cable are necessary to use the KingKORG Sound Librarian.

Mac
Operating system: Mac OS X 10.6 or later.

Windows
Operating system: Windows XP SP3 (32bit), Windows Vista SP2 (32bit, 64bit), Windows 7 SP1 (32bit, 64bit),
Windows 8 (32bit, 64bit).
Internet Explorer 8 or later is required for running Windows.
Operation with touch panel is not supported when running Windows 8.
Full functionality is not guaranteed with all computers that satisfy these system requirements.
An internet connection and a valid Twitter account are required for enabling the Twitter function.

Installation
In order to use the KingKORG Sound Librarian, you must also download the KORG USB-MIDI Driver from
the Korg website and install it as described in the accompanying documentation. ( http://www.korg.co.jp/Eng-
lish/Distributors/ or http://www.korg.com/ )

Installation for Mac users


Proceed as follows to install the software on a Mac.

1. Copy the “KingKORG Sound Librarian” folder to the “Applications” folder.

Installation for Windows users


Proceed as follows to install the software in Windows.

1. Double-click “Setup_E.exe” to start the installation process.

2. The KingKORG Sound Librarian installer will start up. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the
software.

Quick start

Editing KingKORG
In order to use the KingKORG Sound Librarian, proceed as follows.

1. Press the PROGRAM (GLOBAL) button while holding down the SHIFT/EXIT button to select global mode.

2. Press the PAGE +/‒ buttons or the Category/Favorites buttons to move to “g12:Common Protect” page and
set the Protect setting to “Off.”

3. Press the WRITE button in global mode to save the Global parameters.

Starting the KingKORG Sound Librarian


In order to use the KingKORG Sound Librarian, you must download the Korg USB-MIDI driver from the Korg
website and install it as described in the accompanying documentation. ( http://www.korg.co.jp/English/Distribu-
tors/ or http://www.korg.com/ )

1. Use a USB cable to connect your KingKORG to your computer.

2. Start the KingKORG Sound Librarian.

Mac: “Applications” → “KingKORG” → “KingKORG Sound Librarian”


Windows XP/Vista/7: “Start” → “All Programs” → “KORG” → “KingKORG” → “KingKORG Sound
Librarian” in the taskbar.
Windows 8: Home screen - “KingKORG Sound Librarian”
3. The KingKORG Sound Librarian screen will appear. Program data and favorites data will be automatically
loaded from the KingKORG.

Editing programs and favorites


You can edit the KingKORG data to sort the programs and save selected programs to the favorites menu. For
example, here’s the procedure for adding a program to the favorites menu.

1. Click the Faborites buttron to display the edit screen for the favorites menu.

2. From the program list, drag and drop the program that you want to add to the favorites menu.

Writing edited data to your KingKORG


In order for the parameters that you’ve edited in the KingKORG Sound Librarian to be stored into the memory of
your KingKORG, you’ll need to write the edited data from the KingKORG Sound Librarian into the KingKORG.

1. From the “KingKORG” menu, choose “Write Library Data.”

2. A confirmation dialog box will appear, then click the OK button.


The parameters in the KingKORG Sound Librarian will then be written into the memory of your King-
KORG.

This section provides a brief explanation of the KingKORG Sound Librarian's screens and their functions.

Main screen of the KingKORG Sound Librarian


This is the screen that is displayed when starting up the KingKORG Sound Librarian.

Main display
This shows the program names that you selected.

Write button
Press the Write button to write the edited parameters into the KingKORG.

Page switching button


This switches the main screen to the favorites menu edit screen, the Twitter linked screen or the parameter dis-
play screen.

Program list
This screen is used for displaying the program data and editing programs.

Selecting programs
Click on a program in the program list to select it.
If you select a program, the selected program will be transferred to the KingKORG and the tone can be checked.
Tip Select items in the program list while holding down the command key in Mac or the Ctrl key in Windows
to select several items at a time.

Sorting programs
Drag and drop items in the program list to change the order of the list.
Tip You can also select several items and sort them at once..

Copying programs
To copy the programs, drag and drop while holding down the Option key on a Mac or the Ctrl key in Windows.
Tip You can also select several items and copy them at once.

Tweet
The KingKORG Sound Librarian lets you Tweet about the preset program that’s selected.
Click the Tweet button to display the Tweet Editor screen. Edit the Tweet and press the Tweet button.
This will be displayed only when a valid Twitter account is set and a preset program is selected.
This will not be displayed when you edited the preset program.

Favorites editor screen


This displays, sets and sorts the favorites menu.

Setting favorites
Drag the item from the program list and drop it to the place where you want to save it into the favorites menu.

Sorting favorites
You can drag and drop items around in the favorites menu to change their order.

Twitter linked screen


This displays information about the selected program and options for posting it to Twitter.

Web browser
This displays links included in the Tweet.
When there are pages and links that cannot be displayed by the KingKORG Sound Librarian, start up the
Web browser by using the button that launches the external Web browser.

Tweet list
This displays the list of the Tweets that are related to the selected program.
When links are included, click them to display links in the Web browser.

Parameter display screen


This displays the parameters in the program that’s currently selected in the program list.

Preset window
This displays the list of the factory loaded preset data.
Choose “Option” from the “Open Preset Window...” menu to access the Preset window.

Load preset data


Drag and drop the preset data in to the program list to load the preset data.

Preference settings
Choose “Option” from the “Preferences...” menu to access the Preferences dialog box.

MIDI ports

Specify MIDI ports manually


Normally the KingKORG that’s connected will be detected automatically. Turn this feature on if you want to
specify the MIDI ports manually. Use this when several KingKORGs are connected to the computer.
If this setting is on, specify the ports where your KingKORG’s MIDI IN/OUT controller is connected.

MIDI IN
Specify the MIDI IN port where your KingKORG is connected.
Tip Usually this will be the “KBD/KNOB” port in the KingKORG.

MIDI OUT
Specify the MIDI OUT port where your KingKORG is connected.
Tip Usually this will be the “SOUND” port in the KingKORG.

Other

Receive library data automatically


If this setting is on, data will be automatically loaded from your KingKORG when starting up the KingKORG
Sound Librarian. If this setting is off, data will not be automatically loaded.

Warn before writing data


If this setting is on, a warning dialog box will appear before writing data to your KingKORG. If this setting is off,
data will be written without the appearance of a warning dialog box.

List font size


This sets the character font size in the program list and the preset window.

New
Creates a new library data file.

Open
Loads a library data file.

Save
Saves the edited library data by overwriting the existing library data file.

Save As
Saves the edited library data as a new file with the name you specify.

Load Program Data


Loads a program data file into the selected program in the program list.

Save Program Data


Saves the selected program in the program list as a program data file with the name you specify.

Close (Windows only)


Closes the KingKORG Sound Librarian.

Edit

Undo
Returns to the state prior to the previous operation.

Redo
Returns to the state prior to executing the “Undo” command.

Cut
Cuts the selected program.

Copy
Copies the selected program.

Paste
Pastes the cut or copied program to the selected program.

Clear
Clears the selected program.

Receive Library Data


Receive the library data from the KingKORG.

Write Library Data


Writes the library data that’s currently selected into the KingKORG.

Receive Program Data


Receive the selected program in the KingKORG to the KingKORG Sound Librarian’s program list.

Write Program Data


Writes the selected program in the KingKORG Sound Librarian’s program list to the KingKORG.

Option

Open Preset Window


Open the preset window.

Preferences
Displays the Preferences dialog box.

Authorize Twitter account / Disconnect from Twitter


This sets the Twitter account that will be used in the KingKORG Sound Librarian or cancels the certification of
the set account.
This is set when using the Twitter linked function.

About
Displays the software version of the KingKORG Sound Librarian.

Troubleshooting

Software won’t start up


- Make sure that your computer meets the operating requirements.
- Check whether other applications might be running.
If other applications are running, the KingKORG Sound Librarian might be unable to start up, or might be unable
to transfer data.
- If Windows XP is running on your computer, make sure that Internet Explorer 8 is installed.

Can’t transfer data


- Make sure that the KingKORG has been detected by the connected computer.
If you are using Windows XP, go to the Control Panel, open “Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices” → “Sounds and
Audio Devices,” and check the “Hardware” tab page.
If you are using Windows Vista/7/8, go to the Control Panel, open “Hardware and Sounds” → “Device Manager,”
and check the “Sound, Video, and Game Controllers” tab.
If you are using Mac OS, open “Applications” → “Utilities,” then start “Audio MIDI Setup” open and check the
“MIDI Studio” window by selecting “Show MIDI Window” from the “Window” menu.
- Make sure that the latest Korg USB-MIDI driver is installed.
You can download the latest Korg USB-MIDI driver from the Korg website.
( http://www.korg.co.jp/English/Distributors/ or http://www.korg.com/ )
- If you’re specifying the MIDI ports manually, make sure that the MIDI port settings are correct.
- Make sure that the KingKORG is connected directly to your computer without a USB hub.
- Make sure that the GLOBAL “g12:Common” page, is the protect setting to “Off” of the KingKORG.
- Make sure that the GLOBAL “g27:MIDI Filter” page, is the SysEx setting to “Enable” of the KingKORG.

Can’t correctly use the Twitter function


- Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet correctly.
- Twitter service may not be available temporarily due to maintenance. You can try again after a short break.
- If any security software is running on your computer, make sure that the software is not blocking communication
to or from the KingKORG Sound Librarian.
- The operation may be restricted from Twitter server when you tweet several times in a short period of time. You
can try again after a short break.
- Some Tweets may not be displayed due to Twitter specifications.
- The KingKORG Sound Librarian can’t display closed Tweets. If your Tweet can’t be displayed, check the Twitter
settings regarding disclosure.
- When the Twitter linked function does not operate correctly even after checking the items above, cancel the certi-
fication of the Twitter account once and set the Twitter account again, and then try it again.
- The Twitter linked function may not be available due to change of Twitter specifications. See the latest information
on the Korg website ( http://www.korg.co.jp/English/Distributors/ or http://www.korg.com/ ).
