NARRATIVE REPORT ON 2ND QUARTER NATIONWIDE SIMULTANEOUS

EARTHQUAKE DRILL 2018

Earthquake is one of the inevitable disaster in our country that causes destruction of
properties and death among people. During these times when uncontrollable natural
calamities and tragedies happen all over the world, the only thing that we could do is to think
on how we could seve ourselves and others. That is why , it is of much important that people
and students has a knowledge on what to do before, during and after the occurrence of
earthquake.

In line with this event, the Basista National High School conducted the 2nd quarter
nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill last June 22, 2018 Friday at 10 o’clock in the
morning. The drill was started by the simultaneous ringing of the school bell for a minute
which indicates shaking with the students from the Grade 7 to Grade 12 pupils together with
their teachers strictly followed important things to do during an earthquake like performing
the “Duck, Cover and Hold”. They remained in that position until the alarmed has stopped.
After the ringing of the bell, the students together with their teacher advisers immediately
evacuate their classrooms and proceeded to their respective evacuation areas. Then, the
teachers made their headcount making sure all their students are all safe and sound

Before the actual drill, Mr. Armando Q. Lopez, Principal III of Basista National High
School, together with all the Department Teachers, school DRRM coordinator, and non -
teaching staff conducted a briefing and orientation on the proper flow of the drill. Also,
different teams like First Aid, Site Security, Fire Safety, Evacuation and Communication are
identified with respective team leader. During the briefing, each team dessiminated
information about the objective of the drill as well the needs to carry out a drill to enhance the
students awareness on the safety measures before, during and after the said disaster and
made mentioned of the guidelines and pointed out the possible evacuation area in the school.
After the drill, an evaluation was done by the BFP, PNP, and the LGU representatives.
Several suggetions were given by the council to improve the students and teachers
performance on the emergency evacuation procedures and to ensure a safe and orderly
evacuation in order to prevent loss of lives and injuries especially if real earthquakes will
occur.

Furthermore, this activity intensified the students preparedness and highlighted their
awareness regarding disaster risk reduction. On the other hand, this will be a great help for
teachers and school administration in managing emergencies especially the occurrence of an
earthquake.

Enclosed herewith are the pictures of activities that we have during the aforementioned
drill.
