Billionaire, Bill Gates once stated, ¨Self-confidence is a vital trait because it gives

you the courage to overcome obstacles. This quality is also necessary for helping you

find your passion.” In fact, his passion for computers and confidence in his abilities while

young, eventually led him to create Microsoft. Do you a passion? If so, do you have self-

confidence? Today I will explain to you why having self-confidence makes you

successful.

Self-confidence means to believe in yourself or to be secure in yourself and your

abilities. Lack of confidence leads to weak goals, setting the bar too low, and mediocre

results. A person who has self-confidence believes in themselves, and when you believe

in yourself you are more likely to take action, to stand up and seize the moment, and

preserve long after those who doubted themselves. Investing in confidence allows you

to stand up for yourself in a fair and consistent manner. Otherwise, you make find

yourself in a situation where you are unheard or unfairly treated. Having self-confidence

let you know your limits. By pushing your limits, you increase them.

Statistics show that confidence can help you take on the world with more energy

and determination, resulting in better relationships, quality work and a feeling of being

connected with your surroundings. People with self-confidence can usually influence

others more easily, as well as control their own emotions, and behavior a lot more

responsibly. According to M. Frank Radwan, in the article, ¨The importance of Self-

Confidence¨ , he states, ¨Self-confidence can change your whole life to the better while

lack of confidence will definitely have a negative effect on your social relation, career,
achievements and even your mood¨ (Radwan). The more confident you are, the more

risk you will be willing to take and better opportunities will come your way.

It has been said that people with self-confidence are arrogant. However, people

seem to misunderstand the difference between arrogance and confidence. Arrogance is

about external appearances, hence the, ¨I'm right, you're wrong¨ attitude. Confidence

implies enough separation from ego that one can learn and self-improve while doing

great things. Arrogance tends to work against, while confidence more easily works with.

arrogant person only feels smart if someone else feels stupid¨ (Berkun). A person with

confidence uses their talent to try to be of use.

Therefore, having self-confidence can sometimes be difficult to endure, every

single person is capable of having self-confidence. The positivity of having self-

confidence can lead a person to so many successful pathways in life. That is why

having self-confidence makes you successful.
