EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report is focus on a case study of a company, that located at Pekan Tapah. For this
purpose, we have an interview session with the owner of the company about the company
information and analyze all the information by using SWOT analysis and Business Model
Canvas (BMC). Discovering and acknowledging the strengths, weakness, opportunities and
threats is crucial for evaluating current status of business and for future planning instead
helping in development in business strategies. Besides, the problems finding from the
company is by the SWOT analysis and how the owner come out with the solution to handle
the problems.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study


This case study was conducted to help us to obtain knowledge about the
organization, marketing, operational and financial in a business despite learning
the nature of the business and analyzing it using SWOT analysis and Business
Model Canvas (BMC). This study was organized by semester 5 students of
AS1205_D to fulfill the requirements for Fundamental of Entrepreneurship
(ENT300) assessment. We have chosen Mat Noh Enterprise to carry out our case
study which is located 5km from UiTM Cawangan Perak Kampus Tapah. The
interview has been done with the owner, to obtain the information about his
business to complete our task.

1.2 Purpose of the Case Study


i. To analyze the business information obtained by SWOT analysis and
Business Model Canvas (BMC).
ii. To be exposed and learned how to operate a business, nature of the
business and problems or challenges company has to face.
iii. To gain knowledge and have better understanding about a business to
improve our business plan.

1.3 Problem Statement


There were some problems faced by this business. Firstly, this company is lack of
financial statement. The owner did not have financial planning where he did not
record all the cash flow as this is his personal business. Secondly, the service is
not well-timed since the owner did not recruit any workers to assist him. All the
works and task need to be done by himself so the service is depends on the amount
of customers come to the food truck.

3.0 MARKETING STRATEGY

3.1 Products/Services
The company provides fast food such as Chicken Kebab which customers can
choose the bread to be used which are hotdog bread, roti pita and tortilla. The
company also sell Roti John with 2 various size which are small and large and also
some western cuisines which are Chicken Chop and Lamb Chop.

3.2 Price
For the price, it is determined by the product that is being sell. For Chicken Kebab,
there are three types of kebab sold. The normal bread and roti pita Kebab are sold
for RM3 and tortilla Kebab is sold for RM5 each. For Roti John, there are 2 various
size. For small size, it is sold for RM3 each and large for RM6. For Chicken Chop,
it is sold for RM10 each and Lamb Chop is sold for RM16 each.

3.3 Place
The food truck is located at Pekan Tapah which is one of the attractive spots in
Tapah district since it is the only town. The place is good since everyone will go to
the area because of the supermarket and other retail store such as D.I.Y and Eco.
People will pass by the food truck which will make it is easy for the company to
attract customers. As it does not have any other branches of food truck, people
need to get the product by visiting the area established.

3.4 Promotion
For the promotion, the company only use banner at the food truck as the promotion
for their product. The banner includes name of the company, products and prices.
The company only depending on the banner to promote their products to society
make it a bit less efficient since people can only notice by visiting their food truck.

4.0 OPERATIONAL STRATEGY

4.2 Production Planning

4.2.1 Monthly Production

The average sales forecast for Mat Noh Enterprise is about RM 1500-RM2000 in a month.

Average Sales Forecast per month = RM 2000

Price / pack = RM 5.00

No. of output / month = RM 2000/ RM 5.00

= 400 pack/ month

4.2.2 List of Raw Materials

Typically, the ingredients come from precooked or frozen or has already been made and
prepared elsewhere which are fries, patty, bread, pita bread, hot dog bun, breaded chicken
for chicken chop and lamb for lamb chop. Meanwhile, the sauce and spices are made by his
wife’s recipe that cannot be obtained in any place. Other ingredients that needed are lettuce,
tomatoes, cucumber, salads, cabbage, eggs and cheese for the filings.

4.2.3 Machines and Equipment

The food truck is equipped by the deep fryers, broilers, microwave, stove, mini refrigerator,
sink, cabinet and prep table. All of the equipment including the truck is provided from
Agropreneur Peladang, a help from Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry for a
new entrepreneur starting their business.

4.3 Operation Personnel

4.3.1 Organizational chart of operation department

Mat Noh Enterprise consists only one worker which is the owner of the business, Che Mat
Noh. Since this is the personal business so the owner did not recruit any workers to assists
him for the business.

4.3.2 Schedule of tasks & responsibilities

All the tasks were handling individually by Che Mat Noh starts from preparing the kitchen
and food before operation business starts, takes order from the customer but it is much
easier since the customer need to order from the truck and serves and entertain the
customer that walk in to the food truck and receive their payment.

5.0 FINANCIAL ACHIEVEMENTS

Mat Noh Enterprise is just open in December 2018. The capital needed to start up the
company is roughly RM2,500. The rough profit of this food truck is around RM1,500 to
RM2,000 monthly. The owner didn’t keep the financial report that make us hard to see actual
expenses and profit of this company.

STRENGTH

Strengths is the characteristic of the business or project that give an advantages over
others. From Mat Noh enterprise, the special sauce that the owner created by himself. The
owner said that the normal sauce or ketchup sometime give a weird flavor when added to the
dish. So he comes out with an idea of mixing the cheap sauce and making a new flavor out of
it. This secret sauce is one of the kinds because no other stall has this secret sauce. The
second strength is the owner has a genuine customer-friendly attitude. Basically, friendly
attitude can make the customer feel comfortable to communicate while ordering their food.
This kind of attitude can make customer to visit more often toward the stall to purchase again.
Many people who are doing business lack of this attitude and irritate the customer. The next
one is the owner is well-trained that are diligent and good at handling food. The owner himself
once works with her sister in-law at D’Sara Fried Chicken. That is why he is well known how
to handling the customer and the meal.

WEAKNESS

Weakness is a characteristic of the business that places the business or project at


disadvantages relative to others. We identify 2 major weaknesses from Mat Noh Enterprise.
The first one is the service of this food truck is not well-timed. It is because of the owner is the
worker and he doesn’t want extra worker to help him. The time taken for a meal to be serve
going to take longer time especially if he had a multiple order at once. It will make the customer
to wait longer. The reason why he doesn’t want to have other worker because he assume that
the business was too small to have to many worker and he can’t increase any expenses for
his company. The second weakness is the lack of financial statement. Since the owner work
alone and only have a small stall, he assumes that it is not a requirement financial statement.
The financial statement is the record of all the cash flow of all expenses and profit that a
company had monthly or daily. Even it’s a small food truck business, it’s a requirement to have
a financial statement to keep on track of the company cash flow.

OPPORTUNITIES

Opportunity is an elements in the environment that the business or project could exploit
to its advantages. Right now, the location is of this food truck is at a town near UiTM Tapah.
There are student who live outside of UiTM and sometimes they go to the town to find a new
thing to eat. These locations really give very good advantages towards Mat Noh Enterprise
especially the main dish of this food truck is fast food. It is also near the main supermarket of
the town that make it easy to track.

THREATS

Threats is an element in the environment that could cause trouble for the business of
project. The main problem that always face by the company are this food truck is not the only
place that serve fast food. There are a few popular fast food branches on the town itself like,
KFC, Pizza Hut and Domino’s Pizza. Other people might choose the more popular branches
rather than street food. Beside, other food trucks also serve the same menu as the Mat Noh
Enterprise. This is a very big disadvantage toward the food truck.

7.0 BUSINESS PROBLEM

8.0 RECOMMENDATION AND IMPROVEMENT

1) Branches
Instead of having one food truck to sell the goods, the company can expand their branches
by having some other food trucks to be place in certain area so that the customers can
easily get/buy the food from the company. The company also can increase their profit by
having few branches. Since it is a food-producing company, it gets quite a demand from
community. Besides, the company tend to be well-known because of having branches.
The company’s name or brand is being known by people in the area near their branches.

2) Promotions
The company is lacking on promotions since they only got one food truck. The promotion
is only depending on the banner and the signboard in front of the food truck. It is
recommended for the company to have social medias like Instagram, Facebook and
Twitter to promotes their products. As people know, nowadays social medias are
frequently used to promotes things. It is efficient for any company to have at least one of
the social medias for promotion’s purpose. The company also can use brochure for
promotion.

3) Services
The food truck has quite low services. It is because of lack of workers. The food truck only
has one worker which is the owner himself to handle. It leads to a slow process of treating
the customers since the owner is the one who need to cook foods, wrap them and handle
the payment. As for this, the company needs to have few more workers to handle the food
truck in the range amount of one to three workers as the food truck is not that big to be
handle by many. By doing this, the company can increase the efficiency of the business
services.
