LESSON PLAN Subject: Math

Trainee: Salama Topic or Theme: Rounding decimals

Class: 4-D Date & Duration: Sunday March 3. 2019

Trainee Personal Goals

I am working on:

 Implementing learning were the students are applying the skills that have been introduce in the
lesson.

Lesson Focus

 Students will be able to round decimals using place value.

Lesson Outcomes

Students will be able to:

 Identify how to Round decimals numbers using place value.

Links to Prior Learning

 In the previous grades, students learned how to round normal numbers using place value. They
learn the rules of rounding and how they can change numbers.

21st Century Skills

 Communication & collaboration

- In this lesson the teacher will use this 21st century skill because it will help to encourage
the students to practice English language and learn from each other. Such as listening,
have good attitude and develop self-confidence.

Key vocabulary:

Rounding, Place value, Decimals, number line, digit.

Possible problems for learners Solutions to possible problems

 Behaviour problems in the centres.  Use clear instructions to all of the groups before
 Misunderstanding the concept they start activities. / Create behaviour chart.
 Students who finishes the activity  Change the learning style to help the students
early. understand.
 Plan extra activities.

Resources/equipment needed

Computer / number line / place value chart/ small whiteboard/ cards / place value house.

Small circle two colours (Red and green) to manage the student’s behaviour in the class.

Also, small coloured cones to manage the students work. So, the group that is working and have a good
behaviour they get the cone and then at the end the group members will get point.

4.Teacher: we learn before about place
values so number 3 is the ones, 8 is
tens, 9 is hundreds. And now the
numbers that are after the decimal
point are tenths, hundredths and
thousandths. So, we have 6 tenths, 2
hundred and 5 thousandths.
5.Next the teacher will write a number
on the board (45.763) and will ask the
students: what are the ones in this
number Turn and talk What are
hundredths in this number?
So, boys and girls today we will learn a
new lesson about rounding decimals.
Our key vocabulary for this lesson is:
Decimals, rounding, place value.

6. Then teacher will do one example

with a student in front of the class. For
instance: Teacher will choose one
student and will write a number on the
board 1.510 and will ask the student to
round it to the nearest hundreds.

Differentiation activities (Support)

Master students:

Students will play a game called rounding matching game. Students will have different cards that have
decimal numbers. Then, there will be questions in a card placed in the table group. The students have to
pick question number 1 and read it. For instance: one student will choose a card that says: round 5.476 to
the nearest hundredths. Also, students will have a small card to write their answers then before they check
and find the answer in the cards. They have to share and discuss with the group. Then when they find the
answer, they will use a number line to represent the number.

Develop students

Students will, have a number table they will play a game called role it. This game has two players. So,
firstly the students must read the rules of the game that is on the group. Then students have to play in
turns. The student will have 3 dieses and they will take turns while playing. The students have to throw
the dice and move the marble to the number that appears in the dice. Then the students have to round
the number that the marble landed on to the nearest tenth.

Emerging students:

Students will have cards that have different questions about rounding decimal numbers. Student have to
pick a card and answer the question. Using the place value house. Firstly, students have to write the
numbers in the correct place in the place value house. Then, they have to read the question about
rounding then using the place value house as a tool to help them identify the answer. Finally, students
have to complete the question then share and discuss the answers in the group.

Recap on the lesson and do one
example with the students. Students have to help the teacher with the
steps to how to round decimals.
Then, teacher will give the students exit
ticket. To check there understanding. Students have to solve the questions and
give the ticket back to the teacher

Homework Students have to complete book exercises P. 703
