<Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Course>

Today, it is impossible to construct advanced engineering systems without using technologies
from computer sciences. In response to the societal demand for electrical, electronic, information,
and communications-related technologies as an industrial foundation, the Electrical Engineering
and Computer Science Course accepts prospective students with the following characteristics The
Course provides education and research guidance in order to nurture outstanding engineers and
researchers in acquiring global perspectives, a wide range of values, and sophisticated general
education, as well as developing the abilities to contribute to the regeneration of Japan as a
technology-oriented nation.

<Materials Science and Engineering Course>

Materials have always played an important role in human society. Going forward, the
importance of materials in social-infrastructure technology continues to increase. Along with the
recent development of the advanced science field, the field of materials science and engineering
is also diversifying in the ways in which professionals tackle the key issue of enhancing the high
functionality of materials without creating any environmental load. For the development of modern
scientific technology, one of the most important foundations is to conduct scientific work on
materials or to pursue superior materials based on the relevant social background. The Materials
Science and Engineering Course seeks the following characteristics from prospective students.
Prospective students:
- Are sympathetic to the educational philosophy of the Materials Science and Engineering
Course and have a motivation to improve their basic skills in natural sciences and social
sciences, which form the basis of materials science and engineering.
- Have an interest in the basic theory and the application of technologies composing materials
science and engineering and demonstrate an imaginative ability, unrestricted by existing
concepts, with the spirit of inquiry and a sense of curiosity.
- Are willing to engage with a wide range of materials, understand conventional material creation
and material development as well as the evaluation of physical properties, and seek more
advanced studies in materials science and engineering.
- Have an interest in the connection between humans and materials and, rooted in a desire to
convey conventional technologies and new knowledge regarding materials science and
engineering, have the practical ability to disseminate and hand down that knowledge using
strong communication skills.

disseminate technologies and science to society based on advanced materials science and
engineering.

<Applied Chemistry Course>

The Applied Chemistry Course strives to foster superior human resources as scientists or
engineers who can thrive in international society with not only extensive chemistry skills but also a
broad culture and exceptional skills for discovering, exploring, and solving problems, as well.
The Applied Chemistry Course welcomes the following types of students.
- A student who has acquired basic knowledge and skills in general science and engineering,
which form the basis of chemistry.
- A student who can try to discover and to solve problems with chemistry skills.
- A student who is able to participate in activities related to chemistry with a sense of cooperation,
responsibility, and social standards.

<Mechanical Engineering Course>

The Mechanical Engineering Course accepts prospective students who have the following
characteristics and provides its students with education and research guidance:

problems based on various needs, the logical-thinking skills to plan approaches for solving these
problems, and the determination and practical ability to perform and respond in a flexible way
based on such plans.
- Have knowledge in basic natural sciences, such as mathematics and physics, and specialized
knowledge and practical abilities in materials/structural mechanics, fluid, and heat/energy.
- Have the potential to acquire the knowledge and practical ability for using foreign languages,
which will enable them to participate in international academic exchanges.
- Have the ethics of an engineer and the potential to advance research in collaboration with
fellow colleagues.
<Architecture and Civil Engineering Course>
The Architecture and Civil Engineering Course provides education and research guidance to
nurture engineers who will engage in the building of the human life environment, which involves
working on the land, regions, cities and architecture. This course seeks prospective students who
have completed specialized education in different departments at an undergraduate level as their
foundation, have developed a broad perspective on society to which technologies will be applied,
and demonstrate a motivation for acquiring in-depth knowledge, skills, and findings from their
respective specialized fields.
In its future training of graduate students, the Architecture and Civil Engineering Course will
focus mainly on the following four areas, which can be further categorized into a more detailed
research guidance system.
- Engineers who are engaged in architecture- and urban-related design and planning.
- Engineers who are engaged in research related to architectural history or the repair and
conservation of old architecture.
- Engineers who are engaged in design, planning, and research related to architecture, urban
structures, the environment, and production.

The Course has constructed its entrance examination, curriculum, and policy and system of this
course up to the point of completing a Master’s thesis in light of these areas. Faculty members in
the Course teach in four different undergraduate Departments and one Course. In this Course,
however, they form cross-departmental groups to provide research guidance, and the subjects
offered to students after their enrolment are composed also based on these cross-departmental
groups.
Cosmopolitanism and expertise:
Both broad perspectives and language proficiency are vital to the realization of cosmopolitanism,
the concept on which this university is focusing, and the Course structure reflects that focus.
