I rated myself 7 out after our debate which entitled, “Philosophy (as a course) should be

included in school’s curricula” because I did not express and delivered my knowledge and ideas

neatly and precise. I was having a hard time talking and explaining in front of my fellow

classmates because I felt nervous and I can’t easily deal with it because honestly I can’t deny

that I have stage fright. I really do regret that I haven’t really constructed my English language

very well when it is my turn on talking and explaining in front about my stand. But, even though

I had my down sides during my performance, I do appreciate myself by making my stand

straight and direct to the point. I am proud to say that I did my best by talking in front with

confidence and full faced.

During the debate, I found myself thinking, scanning, and searching my phone in order

for me to deliver my stand precisely. I found myself attentively listening in my fellow classmates

talking in front and as I listened to them, I started constructing sentences with my own

knowledge in my thoughts so that I can cope up in topic and in the mood. As the debate

continues, I felt satisfied as I learned a lot not only in the topic, but also in listening and being

cooperative. It really developed our thinking at speaking skills.

The debate is really helpful for us the students especially for me in developing self-

esteem and having our ideas and knowledge about something to be shared and imparted. It

also helps us to develop effective speech composition and delivery in order for us to be more
precise and direct on what we are going to speak. Debate helps us to see the power of

deploying rational, reasoned arguments and compelling evidence in action. It develops our self-

reliance and it boosts our confidence in order for us to be better in this field. It enables us to

elucidate our standpoint through utilizing rhetorical eloquence. It also instils in debaters a great

sense of poise and confidence.
