Recount Text : Past Experience
A Boring Saturday

Last Saturday (8th of November, 2014), Me and My family had a long and boring
experience. We attended my mother’s aunt birthday party and also in the evening we met out
technician because we wanted to fix our house in Bekasi. At first I imagined that the party
was an enjoyable party, a huge with delicious food and exciting atmosphere. But,
unfortunately, all of the, were wrong.

The party was held in a restaurant in Kelapa Gading. The room of party was small
with many invitee that attended it. The foods and drinks were not delicious. They were not as
delicious as my mom’s. The situation was so boring. We only did a together lunch, a cake’s
candle blowing and the speech from the son and daughter of my mom’s aunt.We also sang
some “boring songs” together. Because of it, during the party, I only asked my dad to go back
to our house. And at first, my father agreed. I was so happy.

But, when me and my family were in our car, my father said that we should go to our
house in Bekasi to meet our technician to fix our house in Bekasi. In my heart, I didn’t want
to go anywhere again because there were many homeworks and I also wanted to take a rest.
But, I couldn’t deny him.

When we arrived in our house in Bekasi, I was only sleeping in our car. I was so tired.
The discussion between my dad and the technician was so long. I asked my dad to finish their
discussion, but my dad only answered “Later, my son !”. And, at the end, the discussion was
finished at 6.30 PM. We went back to our home and the technician still stayed in our house to
fix my house.

Fortunately, the roads from my house in Bekasi and in Karang Tengah were not
crowded. And we arriced in our house in Karang Tengah at 8 PM. When we arrived, directly I
was going to my bed room and sleeping on my bed.

It was really a boring day. I hope it will not happen again.

Ki Hajar Dewantoro
Ki Hajar Dewantoro, or his real name is Raden Mas Soewardi Soerjaningrat, was
born on May 2nd, 1889, in Yogyakarta. His father was called Pangeran Soerjaningrat, from
Pakualam Palace, Yogyakarta. As a part of an aristocratic family, Soewardi was quite free to
enjoy his education. He had studied in Europeesche Lagere School (Elementary School),
Kweekschool, and School Tot Opleidong Van Indische Artsen or STOVIA. He always
thought that education was one of the most important factors in freeing the Indonesian people
of their sufferings from colonization. He took off his aristocracy and changed his name to Ki
Hajar Dewantara. He did that because he wanted to bring himself closer to the people.

On July 13th, 1913, when he was 24 years old, Ki Hajar was arrested by Netherlands’
soldiers because he made a publication about his article which was titled Als Ik Eens
Nederlander Was (If I Am A Netherlander) in ‘De Express’ media. In this article, Ki Hajar
Dewantara wrote that if he was a Netherlander, he would give his colonies freedom. On July
3rd, 1922, Ki Hajar and with his friends in Sloso Kliwonan Association, established the
“Taman Siswa”. This school was opened to Indonesian people who wanted to study.

When Japan colonized Indonesia, Ki Hajar Dewantara became a member of The

Center of People’s Power (PUTERA). PUTERA was built by Japan to monitor dangerous
people for Japan. Ki Hajar did that on purpose, in order not to be suspected and to be free to
move. When PUTERA dispersed, Ki Hajar was chosen as a member of Naimuhu
Bunkyonkyoku Sanyo. It is an educational organization which was made by Japan.

He got appreciation as “Bapak Pendidikan Indonesia” because of his ideas in the

world of education. He was chosen also as Minister of Indonesian Education under President
Soekarno’s administration. Ki Hajar Dewantara still tried to develop the educational system
in Indonesia by his brilliant ideas. When President Soeharto commanded, Ki Hajar
Dewantara was bestowed as “Bintang Mahaputera”. He was also called as a pioneer of the
Indonesian Press. His birthday was celebrated as Education Day (Hari Pendidikan Nasional).
He passed away on April 26th, 1959. His wife, Nyi Sutartinah, collected things which had
been used by Ki Hajar and his family. There were about 3000 things, and then they were put
at Dewantara Kirti Griya Museum, Yogyakarta. (Source : http://www.myhero.com/hero.asp?

Fairy Tale
The White Butterfly
An old man named Takahama lived in a little house behind the cemetery of the temple
of Sozanji. He was extremely friendly and generally liked by his neighbours, though most of
them considered him a little mad. That was because he was very old but he did not want to
get married. He did not have the desire for intimate relationship with women.

One summer day he became very ill, so ill, in fact, that he sent for his sister-in-law
and her son. They both came and did all they could to bring comfort during his last hours.
While Takahama fell asleep, they watched a large white butterfly flew into the room and
rested on the old man’s pillow. The young man tried to drive it away with a fan; but it came
back three times, as if it was very loath to leave the sufferer.

At last Takahama’s nephew chased it out into the garden, through the gate, and into
the cemetery beyond, where it lingered over a woman’s tomb, and then mysteriously
disappeared.

On examining the tomb the young man found the name “Akiko” written upon it,
together with a description narrating how Akiko died when she was eighteen. Though the
tomb was covered with moss and must have been erected fifty years previously, the boy saw
that it was surrounded with flowers, and that the little water tank had been recently filled.

When the young man returned to the house he found that Takahama had passed away,
and he returned to his mother and told her what he had seen in the cemetery.

“Akiko?” murmured his mother. “When your uncle was young he was betrothed to
Akiko. She died shortly before her wedding day. When Akiko left this world your uncle
resolved never to marry, and to live ever near her grave. For all these years he has remained
faithful to his vow, and kept in his heart all the sweet memories of his one and only love.
Every day Takahama went to the cemetery, whether the air was fragrant with summer breeze
or thick with falling snow. Every day he went to her grave and prayed for her happiness,
swept the tomb and set flowers there. When Takahama was dying, and he could no longer
perform his loving task, Akiko came for him. That white butterfly was her sweet and loving
soul.” (Source : Interlanguage, English for Senior High School X. Ministry of Education)

Fable

Three Little Pigs

Once upon a time there were three little pigs. One pig built a house of straw while the
second pig built his house with sticks. They built their houses very quickly and then sang and
danced all day because they were lazy and their houses were finished faster than the third
pig’s house. The third little pig worked hard all day and built his house with bricks.

A big bad wolf saw the two little pigs while they danced and played and thought,
“What juicy tender meals they will make!” He chased the two pigs and they ran and hid in
their houses. The big bad wolf went to the first house and huffed and puffed and blew the
house down in minutes. The frightened little pig ran to the second pig’s house that was made
of sticks. The big bad wolf now came to this house and huffed and puffed and blew the house
down in hardly any time. Now, the two little pigs were terrified and ran to the third pig’s
house that was made of bricks.

The big bad wolf tried to huff and puff and blow the house down, but he could not. He
kept trying for hours but the house was very strong and the little pigs were safe inside. He
tried to enter through the chimney but the third little pig boiled a big pot of water and kept it
below the chimney. The wolf fell into it and died.

The two little pigs now felt sorry for having been so lazy. They also built their houses

Legend

The Legend of Danau Lipan

Muara Kaman lies along the Mahakam River, in eastern Borneo. In the past the area
was a kingdom ruled by Queen Aji Bidara Putih. She was a typical queen of myths: beautiful,
wise, and sensitive. Many princes and kings proposed to her but she always refused them
because she was more concerned with ruling her country and guarding her people.

One day, a Chinese boat came to eastern Borneo. First, the people thought it was a
merchant ship but the boat was loaded with trade goods and highly trained soldiers. Their
envoys brought gold and porcelain to announce the marriage proposal from a prince of China.
The queen didn’t refuse instantly and replied that she had to ponder the proposal first. After
the envoys left the palace, the queen called a court officer and ordered him to infiltrate the
Chinese boat to gather information on the prince.

When night fell the officer sneaked onto the boat, got by all the guards, and finally
found the prince’s room. The large door would not open and he couldn’t find a peek hole, so
the officer put his ear to the wall, trying to catch sounds from inside. He heard that the prince
was having his dinner and the noise of his chewing and slurping surprised the officer. It was
like a boar that he had once heard when he was hunting.

He quickly left the boat and returned to the palace. He reported that the prince must
have been a phantom, not a human. He believed that the phantom could be in a human’s form
only during the daytime. The queen was so surprised and got angry. On the next day, she
refused his proposal.

The enraged prince ordered his troops to raid Muara Kaman. The battle was won by
the prince’s huge band of troops. As they drew near to the palace, Queen Aji Bidara Putih
chewed a leaf of betel vine and sang a mantra while holding it. When she threw it at the
Chinese troops, it turned to giant centipedes. The Chinese troops started to retreat but three
centipedes chased them and sank the boat. The site of the sunken ship is now known as
Danau Lipan (Lake of Centipedes), with Chinese treasures hidden on the lake’s bed.

Down In the Valley
(Folk song from America)
Down in the valley, the valley so low
Hang your head over, hear the wind blow
Hear the wind blow, dear, hear the wind blow;
Hang your head over, hear the wind blow.

If you don't love me, love whom you please,

Throw your arms round me, give my heart ease,
Give my heart ease, dear, give my heart ease,
Throw your arms round me, give my heart ease

Roses love sunshine, violets love dew,

Angels in Heaven know I love you,
Know I love you, dear, know I love you,
Angels in Heaven know I love you.

If you don't love me, love whom you please,

Throw your arms round me, give my heart ease,
Give my heart ease, dear, give my heart ease,
Throw your arms round me, give my heart ease

Build me a castle, forty feet high;

So I can see her as she rides by,
As she rides by, dear, as she rides by,
So I can see her as she rides by.

Write me a letter, send it by mail;

Send it in care of the Birmingham jail,
Birmingham jail, dear, Birmingham jail,
Send it in care of the Birmingham jail.
