Poor and Rich Countries

What does define your country as rich or poor? Whether a country is rich or poor is

determinated by the level of life of its habitants. In fact, the U.S, a large country, has people who

have an excellent level of life and other who live in extreme poverty. Yet, what is the reason?

Well, people usually think that it depends on natural resources. Actually, the attitude of each

person defines the own country as rich or poor.

Idiosyncrasy of those who are being part of a country is very important since values like:

discipline, constancy, responsible, punctuality, effort and other as having a desire to success,

respect the laws and rights and having professional ethics, make a difference between countries

such as Colombia and Venezuela which even have enough natural resources, it not guarantee

an economic develop. And Japan or Switzerland that are small and have few natural resources

had taking advantage of an economical aspect, exploiting the human resource. For example,

Venezuela is one of the fifty largest countries. It is located over the biggest petroleum reserves

and its annual income is one hundred billion dollars. However, nowadays the supermarkets in

Venezuela are almost empty. Counter to this, is Switzerland which has the best nautical fleet

and dairy products in all Europe, and additionally has the best chocolate in the world.

Although it doesn’t have oceans, practicing animal breeding and doesn’t grow cocoa.

Natural resources can contribute a great economic growth because a country will sail and

exports products like: petroleum, banana, cocoa and others, depending of each one. And as we

know, products as petroleum are very expensive. So it will offer a considerable economic income

to the country. However, these products depend on own price abroad. They rise and fall

unexpectedly, and as a consequence they generate instability. So we come back to idea which
says that population’s idiosyncrasy of a country is more important that amount of own natural

resources, because as I mentioned. The fact that a country has the best natural resources

doesn’t determine the riches of this, since if people are not responsible, hardworking or having

a desire to success (they don’t do a good job). They never may generate progress neither for

themselves, and therefore neither for their country.

Idiosyncrasy of people in a country makes it rich or poor. Natural resources are

important aspects that contribute to the export and sail of the same, and consequently help to

generate an economic growth. It is true and effective many times. But, the real is that who make

the work are people of country, and if they don’t realize a good job, the natural resources lost

their value and become in resources that can’t be exploit because the people don’t have the

correct attitude to do it. So, if you want to envelope your country every day, envelope your

idiosyncrasy every day. Because of that depends, if your country will be rich or poor tomorrow.
