THE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to The International School @

ParkCity Hanoi (ISPH) which is located in the award-winning township of
ParkCity Hanoi, Vietnam. In 2011, I had the privilege of being the founding
Principal of our sister school, The International School @ ParkCity Kuala
Lumpur (ISPKL). It has been such a rewarding experience to witness the
progressive success of ISPKL and to observe its reputation strengthen
within Kuala Lumpur and beyond. I have complete confidence that we
will emulate the success of our sister school here in Hanoi and establish
a school that we can all be very proud of.

In my role as Director of Education, I am fully committed to the ideal

of ISPH meeting its vision of becoming Vietnam’s premier international

THE PRINCIPAL

Thank you for your interest in our new school and for taking the time to
read through our brochure. Whether you are a student, parent, teacher, a
member of the community within Hanoi, or perhaps a family considering
a move to Vietnam, I wish you a very warm welcome to The International
School @ ParkCity Hanoi (ISPH).

Exciting times are ahead. Our first school in Kuala Lumpur opened in
2011 with around 100 children. Today it has grown to become a vibrant,
diverse and flourishing school community with over 1,100 students and
families representing more than 50 different nationalities. We are proud
to be considered among the very best international schools in the region,
and have recently been rated as ‘outstanding’ in all areas following an
independent accreditation review.

After 7 years helping lead and develop our school in Malaysia, it is an honour
and privilege to become the founding Principal of The International School

in Vietnam the unique school experience for which ISP has become so
well-known. I understand that choosing the best school for their child is
one of the most important decisions a parent will make, therefore I would
like to offer some help in the form of 5 key questions you may pose when
evaluating a potential school.

Do the students enjoy learning and look forward to coming to school each
day? Are they properly supported and cared for, yet suitably challenged?
Does the school prepare students not only for examination success, but
also to develop as happy, self-assured and responsible young people? Do

Andrew was the founding Principal of ISPKL when the school opened in 2011 and
brought with him a wealth of international school leadership experience having worked
in world-class schools across Asia and the Middle-East. His previous positions include:
(i) Principal of Green School, Bali (Indonesia); (ii) Headmaster of Bromsgrove International
School (Thailand); (iii) Deputy Head of Tanglin Trust School (Singapore); (iv) Head of
Houses at St.Christopher’s International School (Bahrain). Two of the above mentioned
schools were recently listed in the top eight international schools in the world. Andrew
is also the Chairman of AIMS (Association of International Malaysian Schools).

Andrew, who was born and raised in the UK, started out his career in engineering before
changing profession into teaching. He holds several qualifications, including a Masters
Andrew Degree in Education from Bath University, the UK National Professional Qualification for
Dalton Headship (NPQH) from the National College of School Leadership (NCSL), a Bachelor
­­Director of of Engineering Degree with Honours from Liverpool University, and a Mathematics
Education Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Lancaster University. Andrew is a
keen sportsman and is actively involved in charity work.

Rik is the founding Principal of ISPH following six years with ISPKL, our sister school in
Malaysia. He was appointed as Director of IT at ISPKL in 2012, became Head of Primary
in 2016, then moved to Vietnam as Principal of ISPH in February 2019. The opening of
ISPH coincides with Rik’s 20th year in education; a career which to date has spanned
5 schools in 5 countries: Westfield Junior School in Yorkshire, UK; Jumeirah Primary
School in Dubai, UAE; British School Manila in the Philippines; ISPKL in Malaysia; and
now ISPH in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Rik graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Environmental Management (Honours),

followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education (PGCE), both from the
University of Leeds. His responsibility for developing whole-school IT in each of his 4
Rik first schools stems from a keen personal interest in the development of technology and
Millington its impacts. Rik has had a wide involvement in the field internationally and presented at
Principal numerous technology conferences. Out of school, Rik likes road and mountain biking,
hiking & photography, and listening to a wide range of music & podcasts. He feels
honoured to have the opportunity to lead our new school in beautiful Vietnam.

John-Paul is the founding Head of Primary at ISPH, following 6 years with our sister
school in Malaysia. John-Paul previously taught in a London Primary school, moving to

John-Paul has held a variety of leadership positions in previous schools and has a strong
focus on continuing professional development. He believes that schools should always
be happy and rewarding places to teach and learn. He believes that happy teachers and
students will help unlock and maximise every student’s true potential and support them

McManus
Head of John-Paul joins ISPH with his wife and two young children. In his spare time, John-
Primary Paul enjoys the outdoors lifestyle and likes to challenge himself, ideally with charitable
causes in mind. He has completed the ‘3 Peaks Challenge’ (climbing the 3 highest peaks
in the UK in 24 hours), bungee-jumped, skydived, ice-climbed and cycled from London

to Paris, all in aid of good causes. He also enjoys participating in various sports including
football and swimming.

James is the founding Head of Secondary at ISPH following several years as Deputy
Head of Secondary at ISPKL, our sister school in Malaysia, where he worked for a total
of 6 years. James has been teaching internationally for the past 11 years, 9 of which
have been in positions of leadership. James’ career to date includes postings at leading
schools in Australia, Europe and Asia. James holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science
and a Postgraduate Degree in Education. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
Arts and Maths) subjects are a passion of James’ which he enjoys sharing with students
of all ages.

Born and raised on the Bellarine Peninsula of Southern Australia, James joins ISPH
with his wife and daughter. He has a wide range of interests including environmental

We cater for children aged between 3 and 5 years old and
our highly skilled Early Years team work closely with parents
to give the children the best possible start in their educational
journey. The EYC offers a dynamic and carefully prepared
environment with well-resourced indoor and outdoor
spaces, enabling the children to engage in purposeful play-
based experiences as well as to take part in a wide variety of
adult-led and child-initiated activities.

As experienced Early Years practitioners we understand that

every child is unique and that they develop at their own pace
and in individual ways. Children from all around the world
are welcome to attend our EYC, and through the universal
language of play, children can communicate, make friends
and grow. Our students enjoy coming to school each day

The Primary School is a welcoming and stimulating

The Primary School builds on the foundations laid in the Early
Years, helping the students transition towards becoming
increasingly independent and self-reflective whilst fully
preparing them for the Secondary phase of their education.

Key Stage 1
Years 1 and 2 | Ages 5 to 7 Years
Students in Key Stage 1 follow the National
Curriculum for England in Mathematics and
English and the International Primary Curriculum
(IPC) for all other subjects.
During Key Stage 1, the students are provided
with rich learning opportunities intended to
foster a sense of curiosity and enjoyment. The
use of technology is integrated into lessons
and there is also an emphasis on social and
emotional development. There is a focus on the
children’s literacy development, and their increasing
understanding of phonics leads to progression in
their fluency of reading and writing. Similarly there
is a focus on the acquisition of mathematical skills
and understanding.
Teaching strategies are personalised to address
the needs of our students and they are encouraged
to work both independently and collaboratively. All
students in Key Stage 1 have specialist lessons in
subjects such as Physical Education (PE), Swimming,
ICT, Vietnamese, Performing Arts, Creative Arts, etc.

The Secondary School offers a challenging, meaningful and

enjoyable setting for our students, with a diverse range of
opportunities available. Technology is incorporated across
all subjects and students are taught in an environment where
risk-taking, independence, critical thinking and teamwork
are promoted. The students are guided and challenged by
our team of highly skilled teachers as they journey towards
academic success in their external examinations at the end
of Year 11 and Year 13.

Key Stage 3
Years 7, 8 and 9 | Ages 11 to 14 Years
Students enter Key Stage 3 having completed
their Primary School education and leave fully
prepared for the rigours of the IGCSE curriculum in
Key Stage 4. Our Key Stage 3 curriculum provides
all students with a wide range of subjects and
experiences so that they may find their passions
and strengths whilst developing key skills.
Students in Key Stage 3 study a broad and
balanced range of subjects including English,
Mathematics, Science, Art, Design & Technology,
Drama, Geography, History, Music, PE and Modern
Foreign Languages. The Community Outreach And
Life Skills (COALS) programme enables students
to successfully master the ISPH Core Values and
Learning Habits whilst also encouraging them to
develop their skills of critical thinking and problem
solving.

Key Stage 4 (Opening in August 2021)
Years 10 and 11 | Ages 14 to 16 Years
Each IGCSE subject is a two year course during
which the students are taught the rigorous yet
enjoyable IGCSE curriculum. At the end of Year 11,
students sit their external IGCSE examinations via
Cambridge Assessment International Education
(CAIE) examinations board.
SECONDARY SCHOOL
We offer a balanced curriculum which allows
students to choose subjects based on their
individual skills, talents and interests. All students
study the compulsory subjects of Mathematics,
English and Science, and are then guided to
choose from a range of subjects across four
option blocks. These subjects include: Additional
Mathematics, Art, Vietnamese, Korean, Mandarin,
Business Studies, Design & Technology, Drama,
Economics, English Literature, Geography, History,
ICT, Mandarin, Music, Physical Education, and
Psychology.
All students also follow non-examination
programmes in PE, International Award and 16

Students in the Sixth Form follow an academic programme

based on the AS and A-Level syllabuses from Assessment
and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) and Cambridge Assessment
International Education (CAIE). A-Levels are often considered
to be the ‘gold standard’ qualification and are highly valued
by universities and employers around the world.

latest technologies. Furniture is age appropriate and has been
chosen to meet the needs of the range of subjects offered. The
purpose built science labs are fitted with modern equipment
enabling students to study science all the way through to
A-Level.

Our astro turf sports field, astro turf playground and roof-top
basketball court and games area provide for a wide range of
sports and activities. In addition, our students have full access
to the exceptional facilities at the ParkCity Club which is
adjacent to the school. These facilities include a covered and
heated Olympic size swimming pool, multi-purpose hall, tennis,

Our well-resourced library, which is available for use by all

members of the ISPH school community, is a flexible space
with a wide and inclusive range of resources to support
learning and teaching throughout the school. In addition to
creating a culture to promote wider reading, it also provides a
place for collaborative learning, creativity, and for developing
independent research and information literacy skills.

The well-equipped Creative Arts area contains specialist art

rooms and a machine workshop to enable us to deliver a rich
