“Each contact with a human being is so rare, so precious, one should preserve it.”
Such a precisely depicted fact of life! It always reminds me of the golden times of my childhood. So many of
us; playing, studying and enjoying together, having time for each other, living side by side. The charming
memories of past with our grandparents-listening to their mesmerizing character building stories with such
keen interests as if we were part of those tales. Ah! What used to be these days! Calm and peace full!
Unfortunately the present day generation seems so much immune to all these fascinating aspects of life
that it stabs my heart. All thanks to our today’s popularizing media for this revolutionary change in our lives.
No doubt it benefits us in many ways like it provides up to the date information and helps us manage our
studies. But with regards to relationships; it certainly has played drastically destructive role by depriving us
of time, creating generation gap and stealing our moral values.

Someone said: “the time flies but the good news is that you are the pilot.” So, what one needs is to
learn to hold the rein of time in one’s own hands to meet one’s pursuits. But unluckily, the modern day
media has spoiled the abilities of our young generation to be keen enough for this golden treasure of ages.
They don’t bother to consider its importance. Social websites like face book, Instagram, twitter etc are
sucking all of their time which needs to be utilized for some useful purpose of acquiring knowledge. They
entertain themselves with these sources as much as possible which leaves them no time to be used for
others.

Not only this, media has also caused a difference of attitudes between people of different generations,
leading to the lack of knowledge as well. Previously, people used to spend their time with their grand-
parents which played a vital role in the character building. The stories about historical past and culture
passed on to the next ones thus preserving our heritage for centuries. These activities bound us to our
basis and make us realize what we are. But now! We don’t have spare time to be spent for such purposes
because we have a lot of television dramas to be watched on time! We need to accompany our SOCIAL
MEDIA friends so that they don’t feel alone. Ignorant of the fact that the same attitude of ours is isolating us
from those present near us! This is how we are losing our culture, our versa and indeed ourselves.

Along with its impact on these treasures of mankind it has also a role in snatching our ethics. The frequent
usage of informal language among the social media friends has removed the boundaries of respect for
addressing the elder ones. We don’t care to have concerns for others in the hustle of our daily routine. The
awareness it has aroused among the people is doubtless but the ever-lasting loses it has caused to our
moral values is beyond repair. For example the programs like crime patrol and C.I.D are not only the
sources of awareness and information but the sources to provide ways to commit crimes as well.

In view of all these factors and discussions; I think that if media has a role in the advancement of modern
era, it has also a part in effecting our relationships negatively. Since it has stolen away our precious time,
caused a generation gap and deprived us of our moral values. It’s the need of hour that we learn to
manage our affairs by maintaining a balanced and only useful exposure to MEDIA.
