Students are capable and smart, but may not be able to fully demonstrate these strengths with other
things on your mind.

Students may not show up to school as much.

It is hard to focus when the mind wanders to darker places.

Strategies for teaching the learner / Learning environment needed to be successful

Using meditation as a means for relaxation, stress relief.

Checking in with students, being lenient about things going on in student’s everyday life.

Using classroom exercise so students have healthy coping mechanisms.

● How has your perception of diverse learners grown/changed from your perspective as a student?
My perception has changed because I was not aware of the large demographic of students affected by
depression and suicide.

● What does this mean for you as a future teacher by reflection on Colorado Department of Education,
Colorado Teacher Quality Standard II: ​ Teachers establish a safe, inclusive and respectful learning
environment for a diverse population of students?
As a future teacher, I need to be understanding of children’s mindsets. I would hope to be someone that
students can come to, someone who cares genuinely about the wellbeing of my students and is willing to
listen to their potential problems.
