Demonstration Lesson Plan

Mathematics Grade 8

Teacher: Ian Lawrence C. Mallari Total # of learners: 39

Grade Level: 8 Date: January 21, 2019

Objective/s for the day: At the end of the lesson, 100% of the learners will be able to identify the properties of
parallel lines cut by a transversal with 85% level of proficiency.

Students will be able to:

 Identify the type of operation to be used in the given problem

 Cooperate with their teammates
 Critically think on the words to be created
 Determine the right word to be used in each terms
 Apply probability in real life scenarios

I. Objectives (Learning Goals and Targets):

A. Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of parallel lines cut by a
transversal.

B. Performance Standards: The learner is able to solve real life – geometry problems involving parallel lines.

C. Learning Competencies: The learner is able to communicate mathematical thinking coherence and clarity
in solving real- life problems involving parallelism using appropriate and accurate representations.

II. Subject Matter:

Parallel lines cut by a transversal

Materials: LCD, Laptop, Hand-outs answer sheets, ruler, protractor, pencil, board, marker

Strategies: Blended instruction, Student- Investigation method (Discovery method), cooperative learning,
ICT Integration, Discussion.

III. Procedure:

A. Daily Routine
A. Prayer Assigned student will pray
B. Checking of attendance
B. Opening Activity
Using the ICT – Integrated class room
students will use their SMART phones to connect online for an Students will play the game
exciting game called KAHOOT- Do You Remember Parallel
Lines !

C. Development of the lesson

Please answer the first activity sheet.
Activity #1
*see attachment for Activity #1 Students will answer the Activity Sheet #1

 What are the Corresponding Angles?

 What are the Alternate Interior Angles?
 What are the Alternate Exterior Angles?
 What are the Same Side Interior Angles?
 What are the Same Side Exterior Angles?

Now that you know the angles involve in two parallel lines cut
by a transversal lets investigate the relationship between and Students will answer the Activity Sheet #2

Please answer the 2nd Activity

Activity #2
*see attachment for Activity #2

 What pairs of angles formed when two lines are cut by a

transversal line?

 What pairs of angles have equal measures?

 What pairs are supplementary?

 Can any measure of any pair of angles (supplementary or
equal) guarantee parallelism of lines? Support your
answer?
 How can the key concepts of parallel lines facilitate
solving real – life problems using deductive reasoning,
especially in engineering.

Now, that we investigate the measurements of the angles

involve in a parallel line cut by a transversal lets discuss this
pair of angles.
Let us use the activity sheet #2 and an interactive app in the
internet
(http://www.mathwarehouse.com/geometry/angle/parallel-lines-
cut-transversal.php#interactiveapplet) to support our answers

Alternate Interior Angle Theorem: If two
parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then
alternate interior angles are congruent.

Table 5. Find the relationship between ∠2 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∠7 parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then
alternate exterior angles are congruent.

Same- Side Interior Angle Theorem: If two

same-side interior angles are supplementary.

Same-Side Exterior Angle Theorem: If two

Let us have a practice using an internet app and a power point.

D.Generalization:
What are the postulates and theorems in parallel lines cut by Corresponding Angles Postulate
transversal? And explain each -Corresponding angles are congruent
Alternate Interior Angle Theorem
-Alternate interior angles are congruent
Alternate Exterior Angle Theorem
-Alternate exterior angles are congruent
Same- Side Interior Angle Theorem
Same-side interior angles are supplementary
Same-Side Exterior Angle Theorem
- same side exterior angles are
supplementary

IV. Assessment:

Answer the assessment sheet #1 and (Power Point)
