Praxis Core Analysis 1

Praxis Core Analysis

For this course, we had to take a practice Praxis Core Exam. The purpose of this

assignment was to see where we are in terms of passing the exam and what we need to study for

the real test. It is an exam to determine if you can get your teaching license for any school district

in the country. In order to continue your education after CSN, to receive a Bachelor's degree, you

need to pass the Praxis Exam in order to get into the Education program at either University of

Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), University of Nevada Reno (UNR), or Nevada State College

(NSC). The Praxi is a pass-fail exam, and passing scores change from state to state. In Nevada

you need to pass the mathematics portion with a 150, the reading portion with a 156, and the

writing portion with a 162.

I have heard about the Praxis prior to this class because a few friends of mine have taken

it. One still hasn't passed it and this next time will be his third try. I felt like the links to help us

were not very helpful because they were more about learning about the test and not much about

what to study. I looked at the study plan and clicked through it, but it didn't give me any

questions to help prepare me for this test. The hardest thing about this test, for me, was that I

have not yet learned all of the material in my math class. I had a little bit of trouble there, and I

do believe that the reading and writing portion can be easily improved upon for me by really

working through it and doing some serious studying. The practice Praxis exam was definitely an

eye opener for me and I am now rethinking my career choices.

On math I scored a 68% and that means I have some room for improvement. My reading

score was a 46%, which means I need a lot of improvement on that section of the exam. The

writing portion I scored a 55%, which also means I need a lot of improvement in this area.

Things would be different if I were to take it for real because I will have studied to the best of

my abilities in order to pass that exam. I would also probably hire a tutor to help me prepare, but

like I mentioned before, I'm not so sure teaching is what I wanna do anymore.

For the future, if I do continue pursuing a degree in teaching, I plan on hiring a tutor and

getting the Praxis book, along with signing up for the classes at CSN. This exam has a lot of

complex questions that most people would have to prepare for, by doing a lot of studying. I

would use all the resources that are available to me in order to pass this exam because it is a

requirement on the path forward. If it doesn't work out for me, then I will find another way to

impact kids lives without being a teacher.
