Overall role and context:


The role of the Education Liaison Officer is to enhance equality of educational opportunity and facilitate
access to third level education by individuals and groups in society who are typically under-represented in
higher education.

The Education Liaison Officer will be required to liaise with internal and external stakeholders to develop a
wide range of initiatives designed to enhance knowledge of and interest in higher education amongst
target groups, teachers and parents. They will be required to support such students to transition into
higher education and to succeed in their chosen programme of study.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

1. In conjunction with the Head & Deputy Head of Campus/ Head of Learner Support and Student
Services and the Access Officer at Institution of Technology Carlow to determine the scope and
implementation plan for annual access activities;
2. Work closely with the Programme teams on enhancing accessibility to Programmes
3. To work closely with the Student Services team on the Wexford Campus;
4. Through engagement with key stakeholders, to create and implement an appropriate plan to
include on campus and off campus talks, initiatives, activities; timelines; evaluation
documentation;
5. Represent the Programmes/Campus/Institute on relevant Committees and at local, regional,
national and international events, where necessary.
6. Engage with DEIS and non-DEIS primary and secondary school children, teachers and parents in
the Wexford region;
7. Engage with ETB/ VTOS and other educational providers in Wexford;
8. Liaise as appropriate with other support services within the Institute;
9. Provide quantitative and qualitative reports as required by the Head/ Deptuy Head of
Campus/Head of Learner Support and Student Services
10. Other duties and responsibilities as appropriate to the post and as assigned by the Head of

Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills: Essential Desirable

A relevant honours degree (First or Second Class) √

Must have experience working with students in a 3 rd level environment or √


within areas of socio-economic disadvantage

Comprehensive knowledge of barriers to accessing higher education



Knowledge of 3rd level learning environment

Experience in a similar role is highly desirable. √
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and IT skills √

Hours of Work 37 hrs

Grade V €42, 042 - €50,490


Salary

Annual Leave Annual Leave will be in accordance with arrangements authorised by the Minister
for Education and Science from time to time.
