1. A retired person wants to invest an amount of Rs. 50,000. His broker recommends investing in
two types of bonds ‘A’ and ‘B’ yielding 10% and 9% return respectively on the invested amount.
He decides to invest at least Rs. 20,000 in bond ‘A’ and at least Rs 10,000 in bond ‘B’. He also
wants to invest at least as much in bond ‘A’ as in bond ‘B’. Solve this linear programming problem
graphically to maximize his returns.

2. A company produces soft drinks that has a contract which requires that a maximum of 80 units of
the chemical A and 60 units of the chemical B to go into each bottle of the drink. The chemicals
are available in a prepared mix from two different suppliers. Supplier S has a mix of 4 units of A
and 2 units of B that costs Rs.10, the supplier T has a mix of 1 unit of A and 1 unit of B that costs
Rs. 4. How many mixes from S and T should the company purchase to honour contract
requirement and yet minimize cost?. Make L.P.P. and solve graphically.

3. A dealer in rural area wishes to purchase a number of sewing machines. He has only Rs. 5760 to
invest and has space for at most 20 items. A electronic sewing machine costs him Rs. 360 and a
manually operated sewing machine Rs. 240. He can sell an Electronic sewing machine at a profit of
Rs. 22 and a manually operated sewing machine at a profit of RS.18. Assuming that he can sell all
the items that he can buy how should he invest his money in order to maximize his profit. Make it
as a linear programming problem and solve it graphically. Keeping the rural background in mind
justify the ‘values’ to be promoted for the selection of the manually operated machine.

4. A man rides his motorcycle at the speed of 50 km/hr. He has spend Rs. 2 per km on petrol. If he
rides it at a faster speed of 80 km/hr, the petrol cost increases to Rs. 3 per km. He has atmost Rs.
120 to spend on petrol and one hour time. Using LPP, find the maximum distance he can travel.

5. A company sells two different products A and B. The two products produced in a common
production unit which has a total capacity of 500 hours. It takes 5 hours to produce a unit of A and
3 hours to produce a unit of B. The demand in the market shows the maximum number of units of
A that can be sold is 70 and that of B is 120. Profit by selling one unit of A is 20 and that of B is Rs.
15. How many units of A and B should be produced to maximize the profit.

7. Two tailors A and B earn Rs. 300 and Rs. 400 per day respectively. A can stich 6 shirts and 4 pairs
of trousers, while B can stich 10 shirts and 4 pairs of trousers per day. To find how many days
should each of them work and if it is desired to produce atleast 60 shirts and 32 pairs of trousers
at a minimum labour cast, formulate this as an LPP.
