TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - During the lesson the teacher will:

1. Provide opportunities for all students to succeed by providing extensions for each activity during the
lesson

2. Prepare for varied class sized by using adjustment to practice and preparing lesson plans to
accommodate to student class sizes

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the students
in this class?

We will be teaching outside in an open space. Make sure to keep myself in a position where I can see

LESSON PLAN FORM

TIME SEQUENCE OF LESSON ORGANIZATION REFLECTIONS

0-5:00 Changing time: Students will
have 5 minutes to change.
Upon entering gymnasium
they will start walking

5-10:00 Warm up:

- 5 minutes jog
- 3 rounds of dynamic
stretching
- (High knees, heel
kicks, Side lunges,
Inchworms to toe
walks, Leg raises,
Skips)

10-11:00 Transition: Walk outside to

field

11-14:00 Introduction:
- Introduce lessons and
our Focus which is
dribbling and passing
the soccer ball
- Boundaries We will
be outside for soccer
activities. Set
boundaries to corners
of the field
- Safety: Try to keep
your head up as much
as possible to make
sure we dont run into
other students. Control
the ball

Dribbling purposes/ surfaces

of foot
1. Top of the foot
2. Sole of the foot
3. Toe
4. Inside of the foot
5. Outside of the foot
6. Heel
Reasons for different
dribbles
● Beat or eliminate
defenders by running
at and past them with
the ball.
● Create new passing
lanes and angles.
● Maintain possession
and control of the ball.
KEEP THE BALL
UNDER YOUR
FEET WHEN
DRIBBLING
14-20:00 Activity 1 - Dribbling intro

- Students will dribble

around the room in
their own space
- Get students
accustomed to the ball,
allow them to get a
feel for it
- Make sure students
keep their heads up
- Students will do this
for three, one minute
periods

CFU: In Between periods ask

students what helped them to
keep the ball under control
(ex: Different parts of the foot
used)

Extension up: students may

gain speed, switch up surface
of foot more often, or include
more lateral movement

Extension down: Students

stay in place, focus on 1
surface of foot used for
dribbling

Transition: Have students

come in and discuss different
techniques used to keep ball
under us and under control.
Divide students into 5 groups
by numbering them off.
Explain next activity and have
students go to cones in groups

20-30:00 Activity 2 - Dribbling through

cones
- Cones will be set up in
a diamond scheme
- Students will have to
use more lateral
motion to weave in
and out of the lanes
created by the cones
- Focus On keeping ball
under control while
moving around cones

Demonstration: Have student

demonstrate the drill. Point
out certain techniques student
demonstrating is using

Dribbling through cones

progression
- Laterally through lanes
created by cones using
instep
- Laterally using outside
of foot/ rollover
- Weaving between each
cone using top/sole/toe
- Going through lanes
and then around
individual cones using
different techniques
- When students finish
they will walk around
the cones and back
into line to go again

Extension up: Challenge

students to use all 6 surfaces
of feet when dribbling through

Extension down: Use the

dribble that is easiest for
them, and master it at their
speed during activity.

30-31:00 Transition: Have students set

pick up cones and set down 2
cones 15 feet apart

31-40:00 Activity 3 - Dribbling while

running/ figure 8

Set up: Have 2 cones set up

15 feet apart.

Explanation: We will be

running at a faster speed,
keeping control of the ball and
weaving between

Demonstration: Have student

demonstrate the figure 8 run.
Point out techniques used
while gaining speed, and then
the ones used when going
around cone to turn back.

Students will be running and

dribbling through the cones in
a figure 8 sequence, two times
down and back

Safety: Students in line stay

clear of the student in activity

Extension up: Add a third

cone so they line up in an “L”
formation
Students will do their figure 8
straight ahead, and on way
back do a figure 8 to the other
cone before finishing.

Extension down: Students

may go at their own speed

40-52:00 Activity 4 - Keeping away

from defenders

Set up: Students will be in a

certain space depending on
class size. For larger classes
20 yards by 20 yards

-Each student will have their

own soccer ball
-Goal of game is to keep your
ball under control, while
knocking someone else's out
from under them
- If your ball is knocked out
from 5 feet or further, you are
out.
-If your ball goes out of
bounds you are out

Safety: Remember to be
aware of others around you so
you don't run into them full
speed
No sliding or kicking others
legs

Focus: Keeping ball under

control while moving, and
trying to knock others out

CFU: Go over surfaces of

foot again
- Go over what made it
easier to keep ball
away from defenders
- Difference when
dribbling laterally or
straight forward

52-54:00 Transition: Have students

meet back at meeting area. Go
over next skill session which
is passing

Passing

54-60:00 Activity 1 - passing with a

partner

Passing cues
- Plant with non
dominant foot next to
the ball
- DOminant foot swings
back
- Follow through with
dominant foot and
strike ball

Trapping cues
- With your toes up and
heel on the ground
stop the soccer ball
- Like holding open a
door with your foot
Demonstrate passing and
trapping with a student

Have students pass ball back

and forth getting used to the
dynamics of passing
- Check for good skill
cues

Extension up - Move farther

apart

Extension down - Closer

60-68:00 Activity 2 - Passing with
movement

Students will work on running

up and down a straight line
with a partner, using cues they
just learned to pass back and
forth while running

Leading your partner - Kick

the ball so it is slightly in front
of your partner
Make good use of timing and
distance to help

68-76:00 Activity 3 - Passing while

dribbling

Set-up: There will be three

cones placed 5 feet apart in a
straight line.

- Students will weave in

between each cone
with whatever dribbles
they wish, then pass it
to a student who will
do the same thing back
- They will then pass to
the next student, so on
and so on.

Extensions up:
- Make the dribbling
schemes harder. Add
cones to the sides of
the middle one. They
must weave through
all of them

Extension down: Have

student dribble without
weaving and then pass
76-79:00 Closure:
- Have students name
the 6 points of contact
with the foot
- 3 different dribbling
techniques
- Name skill cues for
passing and trapping
- How can we keep the
ball under control
when dribbling?

79-84:00 Students will have 5 minutes

to change
