Version 1.54

 This version of GenuTax Standard includes the ability to prepare tax returns for 2018.
 GenuTax Standard is certified software for the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE program for
2018 tax returns. You are able to use this version of GenuTax Standard to file your 2018 tax return
over the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise eligible.
 If you have not yet filed your tax return for 2015, 2016, and/or 2017, you may also use GenuTax
Standard to file these tax returns over the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise
eligible.
 This version of GenuTax Standard includes the ability to use various additional Canada Revenue
Agency electronic services for 2018 tax returns, including ReFILE, Auto-fill My Return, Express NOA,
Change My Address, and Direct Deposit Update.
 As a reminder, please note that farmers participating in the AgriStability or AgriInvest programs
are not able to use GenuTax Standard software with the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service.
 If you own or hold foreign property with a total cost of more than CAN$100,000, you must
complete Form T1135, Foreign Income Verification Statement, and send it to the Canada Revenue
Agency's Winnipeg Taxation Centre at the address indicated on the form. Please note that GenuTax
Standard software does not support the completion of Form T1135, or the electronic filing of this form
using the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service. Instead, if you are required to file Form T1135,
and you use GenuTax Standard to complete and file your tax return, you will have to download Form
T1135, complete and print a paper copy of the form, and mail it separately from your tax return.
 If you are self-employed and your business operation had a permanent establishment outside the
province or territoriy where you resided at the end of the taxation year, you are required to use Form
T2203, Provincial and Territorial Taxes for 2018 - Multiple Jurisdictions, when preparing your tax
return. GenuTax Standard does not support the preparation of tax returns that require Form T2203.
 Please note that GenuTax Standard does not support pre- or post-bankruptcy returns.
 If you are a resident of Quebec, you may only use GenuTax Standard to file your federal tax
return with the Canada Revenue Agency. GenuTax Standard does not support the filing of the
provincial TP-1 tax return with Revenue Québec.

Version 1.53 (April 23, 2018)

 In certain situations where a portion of an individual's income from a Registered Retirement

Income Fund (RRIF) must be reported on the tax return of the spouse or common-law partner,
because the spouse or common-law partner had contributed to the individual's RRSP's during the tax
return year or the two previous years, the individual's tax return could not be filed using the Canada
Revenue Agency's NETFILE system. This issue has been corrected.
 On Form T1-M, Moving Expenses Deduction, the individual's first and last names were not being
printed in the correct order. This issue has been corrected.

Version 1.52 (April 9, 2018)

 Where an unrecognized Internet browser software program had been installed on their computer,
certain individuals were having difficulties using the Auto-fill My Return functionality within GenuTax
Standard. Improvements have been made to this functionality to circumvent these issues.
 Certain self-employed individuals were unable to use the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE
system due to an 'invalid industry code' error. The list of industry codes for 2017 has now been
properly updated, resolving this issue.
 On the final return for a deceased individual, if the individual is reporting the sale or disposition of
their principal residence, Form T1255, Designation of a Property as a Principal Residence by the
Legal Representative of a Deceased Individual, was not being included in the printed tax return. This
issue has been resolved.
 For individuals claiming the federal Home Accessibility Expenses tax credit, if splitting the tax
credit with a spouse, common-law partner, or another co-owner of the home, the interview was not
properly indicating the amount of the tax credit that may be split. This issue has been resolved.
 A minor printing error has been corrected in Area B of page 5 of Form T2125.

 This version of GenuTax Standard includes the ability to use various additional Canada Revenue
Agency electronic services for 2017 tax returns, including Auto-fill My Return, Express NOA, Change
My Address, and Direct Deposit Update.

Standard to file these tax returns over the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise
eligible.
 As a reminder, please note that farmers participating in the AgriStability or AgriInvest programs
are not able to use GenuTax Standard software with the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service.

Agency's Ottawa Technology Centre at the address indicated on the form. Please note that GenuTax

T1135, complete and print a paper copy of the form, and mail it separately from your tax return.

Version 1.48 (April 4, 2016)

 Windows Vista is no longer a supported operating system. Although you are not yet prevented
from installing this version of GenuTax Standard software on a computer running Windows Vista, a
warning has been added when you first run the software, informing you that you will not be able to use
the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE system on that computer.
 The software now provides an estimate of the newly-announced Canada Child Benefit (CCB),
which begins in July 2016.
 Form T657, Calculation of Capital Gains Deduction, has been updated to match the Canada
Revenue Agency's revised version of March 10, 2016. The calculation was revised to make it clearer
how the deduction is calculated.
 Individuals that became married, or started a common-law relationship, during 2015 were not
able to use NETFILE if they were also claiming the Amount for an Eligible Dependant for one of their
children. This problem has been corrected.
 A NETFILE issue was preventing the filing of a tax return for certain individuals living outside
Quebec that were employed within Quebec, but were also reporting self-employment income. This
problem has been corrected.
 If a single parent received Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) payments for a child that was 17
or 18 years old, and the individual did not have any younger children, the interview would not provide
the option of having a child report the UCCB payments as their income, instead of having the parent
report the income. This problem has been corrected.
 If an individual emigrated from Canada during 2015, the software was not giving the individual the
option of filing any of the elective tax returns for non-residents. This problem has been corrected.

Version 1.47 (February 29, 2016)

 This version of GenuTax Standard includes the ability to prepare tax returns for 2015.
 GenuTax Standard is certified software for the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE program for
2015 tax returns. You are able to use this version of GenuTax Standard to file your 2015 tax return
over the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise eligible.
 If you have not yet filed your tax return for 2013 and/or 2014, you may also use GenuTax
Standard to file these tax returns over the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise
eligible.

complete Form T1135, Foreign Income Verification Statement, and send it to the Canada Revenue
Agency's Ottawa Technology Centre at the address indicated on the form. Please note that GenuTax

using the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service. Instead, if you are required to file Form T1135,
and you use GenuTax Standard to complete and file your tax return, you will have to download Form
T1135, complete and print a paper copy of the form, and mail it separately from your tax return.

Version 1.46 (May 19, 2015)

 For employees paid by commission income claiming employment expenses, on Form T777, line
9270 for "Other expenses" was not properly including entries for amounts paid to rent an office, and
salaries paid to an assistant or substitute. This problem has been corrected.
 Individuals that mistakenly indicate that they are attaching a payment to their paper tax return
were not able to use the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE system. This problem has been
corrected.
 Residents of Quebec were not able to use NETFILE if they were reporting other employment
income at line 104 of their tax return, but did not have any employment income reported at line 101.
This problem has been corrected.
 The first version of Form MB479 released by the Canada Revenue Agency had a calculation error
that affected the claim for the Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit by seniors that had received the
Seniors' School Tax Rebate during 2014. This version of GenuTax Standard uses the corrected
version made available by the Canada Revenue Agency on April 9, 2015.
 The appearance of the entry screen for the T4A(P) slip, Statement of Canada Pension Plan
Benefits, has been updated to match the 2014 version of the paper slip issued by Service Canada.
 The calculated estimate of the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) has been updated to include
the enhanced benefit amounts announced by the federal government in October 2014.
 For residents of Ontario, the software now provides an estimate of the monthly Ontario Trillium
Benefit (OTB) for the benefit year beginning on July 2015.
 For senior citizens that are residents of Ontario, the software now provides an estimate of the
annual Senior Homeowners' Property Tax Grant (OSHPTG).
 The calculated estimate of the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) for the benefit year beginning on
July 2015 has been updated for residents of Alberta.
 Forms T1172, T2205, and T5004 have been updated to match the most recent Canada Revenue
Agency versions.

Version 1.45 (February 5, 2015)

 GenuTax Standard is certified software for the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE program for
2014 tax returns. You are able to use this version of GenuTax Standard to file your 2014 tax return
over the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise eligible. The NETFILE program will be
open for transmissions starting on February 9, 2015.
 If you have not yet filed your tax return for 2013, you may also use GenuTax Standard to file your
2013 tax return over the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise eligible.
 As a reminder, please note that farmers participating in the AgriStability or AgriInvest programs
are not able to use GenuTax Standard software with the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service.
 If you are not a resident of Canada, this version of GenuTax Standard now includes completely
updated tax forms for non-residents for 2014, and you may use this version to print your paper 2014
tax return to be mailed.
 Regarding eligible death benefits reported in Box 35 of a T3 slip, the software was not taking into
account that this amount is included in the other income reported in Box 26 of the slip. This problem
has been corrected.

Version 1.44 (January 26, 2015)

 This version of GenuTax Standard includes the ability to prepare tax returns for 2014, and print
and file paper tax returns. However, you cannot use the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service
with this version. An update should be made available on our website before the end of February 2015
that will allow you to use NETFILE.
 If you are a not a resident of Canada, please note that this version of GenuTax Standard does not
yet include the required tax forms for 2014, and, therefore, you cannot print a paper tax return. The
updated forms will be included in the next update of GenuTax Standard.

Version 1.43 (December 22, 2014)

 This version of GenuTax Standard uses the Transport Layer Security (TLS) cryptographic
protocol when directly sending 2013 tax returns using the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE
system. As of December 18, 2014, the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE system no longer
supports the older Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol.
 The system requirements for GenuTax Standard software have changed. GenuTax Standard
will no longer run on versions of Windows older than Windows Vista. For details, see the System
Requirements page on our website.
 When completing tax returns together for a married or common-law couple, using the Print Tax
Return button at the end of the interview occasionally resulted in the tax return of the spouse or
common-law partner to be printed other than the one selected. This problem has been corrected.

Version 1.42 (March 31, 2014)

 If individuals claiming foreign tax credits on their 2013 tax return did not properly complete the
section of the interview that asks about these credits, they were unable to use the Canada Revenue
Agency's NETFILE system. Additional validations have been added in the interview to ensure that both
the foreign income and taxes are properly entered before moving to the next set of topics.

Version 1.41 (March 17, 2014)

 Additional instructions have been added near the end of the interview for 2013 regarding the new
direct filing method available for using the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE system.
 The 2013 version of Form T2038(IND), Investment Tax Credit, has been updated, and individuals
claiming this tax credit may now print a copy of their paper tax return.
 If you are reporting self-employment income from farming or fishing, you are no longer restricted
from printing a paper copy of your tax return for 2013.
 A NETFILE issue has been corrected. This issue prevented a tax return from being filed in certain
situations when a married or common-law couple immigrated into Canada during 2013.
 Specific individuals employed in Quebec, such as members of the RCMP and the Canadian
Forces, may have Canada Pension Plan contributions withheld from their employment income instead
of Quebec Pension Plan contributions. These individuals were unable to properly enter their T4 slips
when using GenuTax Standard software for their 2013 federal tax returns. This issue has been
corrected.
 If the only income a married or common-law couple has is the Universal Child Care Benefit
(UCCB) and social assistance, when preparing tax returns together, the software could not properly
determine which spouse should report each type of income. This problem has been corrected.

Version 1.40 (February 21, 2014)

 GenuTax Standard is certified software for the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE program for
2013 tax returns. You are able to use this version of GenuTax Standard to file your 2013 tax return
over the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise eligible.
 If your computer is connected to the Internet, there is a new direct filing method available in
GenuTax Standard, where the software directly sends your tax return information through an
encrypted channel to the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE web service, instead of creating a
temporary NETFILE transmission file for you to manually upload on the Canada Revenue Agency's
NETFILE website.
 If you are not a resident of Canada, this version of GenuTax Standard now includes completely
updated tax forms for non-residents for 2013, and you may use this version to print your paper 2013
tax return to be mailed.
 As a reminder, please note that farmers participating in the AgriStability or AgriInvest programs
are not able to use GenuTax Standard software with the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service.

Version 1.39 (February 7, 2014)

 This version of GenuTax Standard includes the ability to prepare tax returns for 2013, and print
and file paper tax returns. However, you cannot use the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service
with this version. An update should be made available on our website before the end of February 2014
that will allow you to use NETFILE.
 If your tax return for 2013 requires one of the following income tax forms, please note that this
version of GenuTax Standard does not yet include the finalized forms, and, therefore, you cannot print
a paper tax return. The updated forms will be included in the next update of GenuTax Standard:
 T2038(IND): Investment Tax Credit (Individuals)
 T2042: Statement of Farming Activities
 T2121: Statement of Fishing Activities

 If you are a not a resident of Canada, please note that this version of GenuTax Standard does not
yet include the required tax forms for 2013, and, therefore, you cannot print a paper tax return. The
updated forms will be included in the next update of GenuTax Standard.

Version 1.38 (March 11, 2013)

 For Ontario residents that are able to transfer a tuition and education amount from a child for
2012, if the amount of the provincial transfer is between $6,295 and $6,503, the software was
incorrectly limiting the amount of the claim at line 5860 of Form ON428 to $6,295. This problem has
been corrected.
 If you are not a resident of Canada, this version of GenuTax Standard now includes completely
updated tax forms for non-residents for 2012, and you may use this version to print your paper 2012
tax return to be mailed.
 The interview question that asks self-employed individuals that are between 65 and 70 years of
age whether or not they wish to elect to stop making CPP contributions was not appearing in all
circumstances. This problem has been corrected.
 If a resident of Saskatchewan, that is married or living common-law, indicated that the
Saskatchewan provincial home buyers' amount was being split between the spouses, partners, or
other joint owners of the home, the software would not permit them to proceed beyond that interview
question. This problem has been corrected.
 A minor adjustment has been made to the calculation of the CPP contributions where an
individual began receiving a CPP retirement pension in the year, to agree with new paragraph 19(d) of
the Canada Pension Plan Act.

Version 1.37 (February 25, 2013)

 This version of GenuTax Standard includes the ability to prepare tax returns for 2012.

 GenuTax Standard is certified software for the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE program for
2012 tax returns. You are able to use this version of GenuTax Standard to file your 2012 tax return
over the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise eligible.

This version of GenuTax Standard includes the ability to print the new T1 General Condensed tax return.
If you are filing your 2012 tax return by printing and mailing a paper tax return, this is the only version of
the paper return that should be sent to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

This condensed return includes a Form T1-KFS Keying Summary, but does not include most of the full
forms you would have included in previous years. The limited set of forms printed is all that you need to
include if you are mailing a paper tax return to the CRA.
The ability still exists to print the full T1 General tax return, with every Schedule and form that pertains to
the tax return, but this copy should be retained for your personal records only, and should not be sent to
the CRA.

 If you are a not a resident of Canada, please note that this version of GenuTax Standard does not
yet include the required tax forms for 2012, and, therefore, you cannot print a paper tax return. The
updated forms will be included in the next update of GenuTax Standard, scheduled for late-March
2013.

Version 1.36 (June 18, 2012)

 Beginning with this version, GenuTax Standard is now provided at no cost. However, if you do
find the software to be useful, we ask that you make a modest donation to support costs associated
with the continued development of GenuTax Standard software, as well as future annual tax updates.
You may make a donation by going to the following secure page on our website:

https://www.genutax.ca/Donate.aspx

 A calculation issue regarding claiming the GST/HST rebate on automobile leasing expenses has
been corrected.

corrected.
 A NETFILE issue that prevented a tax return from being filed where capital gains from the T3 slip
are less than $1.00 has been corrected.
 A NETFILE issue that prevented a tax return from being filed where the total income reported at
line 150 is greater than zero, but less than $1.00, has been corrected.

the Internet using NETFILE, if your tax return is otherwise eligible.
 To meet NETFILE requirements for 2011, additional validations and entry fields have been added
to the interview sections that ask about claiming the Children's Fitness Amount and the Children's Arts
Amount. If you are claiming one or both of these credits, and you completed the interview in version
1.34 of GenuTax Standard, you must go back and re-enter the details of your claims in the applicable
section of the interview before filing your tax return using version 1.35.
 If you are a resident of Manitoba that was a self-employed farmer in a previous year, a correction
was made to permit you to claim an unused amount of the Manitoba Odour-Control Tax Credit carried
forward from previous years, even if you weren't farming during 2011.
 If you are not a resident of Canada, this version of GenuTax Standard now includes completely
updated tax forms for non-residents for 2011, and you may use this version to print your paper 2011
tax return to be mailed.
 On the T3 slip entry screen, a warning has been added if there is an amount of foreign business
income reported in Box 24 of the slip, that, to properly report this income, and any related expenses,
you must complete the section of the interview that asks about your self-employment income and
expenses.
 On the T4A(P) slip entry screen, it was not possible to enter a date in the year 2011 for the 'onset
or effective date' in Box 13. This problem has been corrected.

Version 1.34 (January 30, 2012)

 This version of GenuTax Standard includes the ability to prepare tax returns for 2011, and print
and file paper tax returns. However, you cannot use the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service
with this version. An update should be made available on our website by mid-February 2012 that will
allow you to use NETFILE, which opens for the season on February 13, 2012.
 If you are a farmer participating in the AgriStability or AgriInvest programs, beginning with this
version, GenuTax Standard no longer fully supports the automatic completion and filing of your tax
return. You will have to download, print, and manually complete the tax forms related to the reporting
of farming income, and then print and mail a paper tax return. In addition, farmers participating in the
AgriStability or AgriInvest programs will no longer be able to use GenuTax Standard with the Canada
Revenue Agency's NETFILE service.

2012.

Version 1.33 (March 21, 2011)

 To cut costs and avoid duplication of effort, starting with this version of GenuTax Standard,
instead of having a Tax Help file for 2010 tax returns which is a mere reproduction of the content of
various Canada Revenue Agency tax guides, we are transitioning to a system where clicking the Tax
Help button takes you to the Canada Revenue Agency’s website with the exact information related to
the interview topic in GenuTax Standard that you are completing.
 If you are a farmer participating in the AgriStability or AgriInvest programs, this version of
GenuTax Standard now includes completely updated AgriStability/AgriInvest forms.
 If you are a non-resident of Canada wanting to file a special Canadian tax return as an election
under Section 217 of the Canadian Income Tax Act, this version of GenuTax Standard now includes
the updated Schedule C form required for making this election.

Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE system. This problem has been corrected.
 Under certain circumstances, individuals claiming the Manitoba Tuition Fee Income Tax Rebate
were not able to use the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE system. This problem has been
corrected.

Version 1.32 (February 14, 2011)

 Once again, we have issued brand new serial numbers for GenuTax Standard. If you own a
copy of GenuTax Standard, when you run this version for the first time after installing it, you will have
to enter your new serial number in the Registration Dialog that appears in order for this version to be
activated on your computer. If you do not, it will behave as if it is a Trial Version. You can find your new
serial number in the email notification we sent you for this version. If you cannot locate that email, you
can retrieve your new serial number by going to our website, www.genutax.ca, and clicking on the link,

browser to a web page with links to relevant Canada Revenue Agency tax guides online.
 If you are a farmer participating in the AgriStability or AgriInvest programs, please note that this
version of GenuTax Standard does not yet include completely updated AgriStability/AgriInvest forms.
In your situation, you should be able to use the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE system with this
version, assuming you otherwise qualify. However, you cannot print a paper tax return if this situation
applies to you. Updated forms will be included in the next update of GenuTax Standard, scheduled for
March 2011.
 If you are a non-resident of Canada wanting to file a special Canadian tax return as an election

 Where tax returns for spouses or common-law partners are being prepared together, the program
logic that permits these returns to be unlinked has been improved.

Version 1.23 (March 21, 2008)

 For Ontario residents that are able to transfer a tuition and education amount from a child for
2007, if the amount of the provincial transfer is between $5,792 and $5,914, GenuTax was incorrectly
limiting the amount of the claim at line 5860 of Form ON428 to $5,792. This problem has been
corrected. If this situation applies to you, and you have already filed your 2007 tax return, please
contact our Support Department (support@genutax.ca) for instructions on correcting your tax return.
 The calculation of the Working Income Tax Benefit (WITB) on Schedule 6 has been updated to
better handle the situation where an individual becomes widowed during the last six months of 2007.
 Where an individual 65 years of age or over is splitting pension income received from a foreign
country with a spouse or common-law partner under the age of 65, the calculation of the pension
income amount that may be claimed by the spouse or common-law partner in Step 4 of Form T1032
was too low in some cases. This problem has been corrected.
 Minor updates have been made to the entry screens for the T5013 and T5013A slips for
partnership income.
 Where only the first nine digits of the Business Number were entered in the interview for a self-
employment or a rental operation, the tax return could not be printed. This problem has been

 The splitting of foreign pensions with a spouse or common-law partner is now supported.
 When splitting pension income with a spouse or common-law partner, if a pensioner 65 years of
age or older had a lump-sum RRSP withdrawal during 2007, the calculated amount of withheld tax
being split was larger than it needs to be. This problem has been corrected.
 The situation where a retiring allowance received in first 60 days of the year is immediately
transferred to an RRSP is now handled better in the interview.
 The 2007 Tax Help file has been updated with respect to the AgriStability and AgriInvest

is an on-screen summary in the interview showing the entries that have been made.
 When preparing tax returns for spouses or common-law partners together, you now only have to
enter joint-account T3 and T5 slips once. The spouse or common-law partner's share will automatically
be reported on their tax return.

 The program installer for this version of GenuTax fully supports the User Account Control (UAC)
feature in Windows Vista.
 Individuals exempt from having to pay Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contributions due to age, or

the cost of living supplement is claimed only if the individual is 18 years of age or older.
 Individuals that worked in Quebec, but lived outside Quebec, and had Provincial Parental
Insurance Plan (PPIP) premiums withheld from their employment income, but did not have
Employment Insurance (EI) premiums withheld, were having difficulties using NETFILE. This problem
has been corrected.

Version 1.19 (January 26, 2007)

to print and/or use NETFILE for 2006 tax returns is now fully enabled.

returns.
 The printed 2006 tax forms have been approved by the Canada Revenue Agency.
 When completing a tax return for an earlier year (2003, 2004, or 2005), an interview problem
prevented the entry of employment expenses. This problem has been corrected. Please note that this
was a problem only in pre-release version 1.18.

Version 1.18 (January 16, 2007)

 This version of GenuTax includes the ability to prepare tax returns for 2006. However, it is a pre-
release version. While you may use this version to start working on your 2006 tax return, you cannot
print your 2006 tax return, or use the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE service with this version.
An update will be made available on our website in early-February 2007 that will allow you to print
and/or use NETFILE.
 GenuTax now includes a streamlined interview feature. If you are very familiar with tax concepts,
the streamlined interview allows you to pre-select the tax subjects that apply to your situation. The
interview will then only ask questions that are related to the topics you selected, allowing you to
quickly complete your tax return.
 Based on your entries in the GenuTax interview, estimates are now provided for the GST/HST
Credit, Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB), and Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) you may be
entitled to receive. You can find these estimates near the end of the interview.
 You can now protect a GenuTax taxpayer file with a password. To add a password to an open
taxpayer file, select the "Password" item under the "File" menu.
 Residents of Quebec may now use GenuTax to prepare their federal tax returns that are to be
sent to the Canada Revenue Agency. However, GenuTax does not yet support the completion of the
Quebec provincial tax return which is to be sent to Revenu Québec.

Version 1.17 (April 8, 2006)

 If 2005 was the first year an individual received regular Employment Insurance benefits since
June 30, 1996, and the individual's net income before adjustments at line 234 of the T1 General
exceeded $48,750, GenuTax was calculating a Social Benefits Repayment at lines 235 and 422 of the
T1 General. However, such individuals are exempt from having to pay the social benefits repayment in
that year. This problem has been corrected.
 Where tax-exempt Employment Insurance benefits were received by an Indian registered under
the Indian Act, as indicated at Box 18 of the T4E slip, the tax-exempt benefits were being deducted
twice; once before the Employment Insurance benefits were reported at line 119, and again as a
deduction at line 232. This problem has been corrected so that the tax-exempt benefits are deducted
only from the amount to be reported at line 119.
 When entering self-employment income and expenses, if an individual indicates that the 2005
fiscal period of the business ended in 2006, a negative value for the "additional business income" at
line H of Form T1139 was being calculated. This problem has been corrected.
 If an individual withdrew from an employee profit-sharing plan, and had amounts previously
allocated to them under the plan that they were no longer entitled to receive, as indicated in Box 36 of
the T4PS slip, a deduction for this amount was not being claimed at line 229 of the T1 General. This
problem has been corrected.
 In a situation where an individual holds investments in a trusteed RRSP, and the trustee disposes
of a non-qualified investment property, or uses any property as security for a loan, a negative amount
may be reported to the individual in Box 28 of the T4RSP slip. GenuTax was not properly claiming a
deduction for this negative amount at line 232 of the T1 General. This problem has been corrected.
 If a communal organization, such as a Hutterite colony, allocated charitable donations to an
individual, as indicated in Box 48 of a T3 slip, the charitable donations were not being claimed properly
where tax returns for spouses or common-law partners were being prepared together in GenuTax. This
problem has been corrected.

Version 1.16 (March 15, 2006)

 In certain cases, where an individual has two or more businesses, and one of the businesses is
reporting a net loss, the earned income limitation was incorrectly calculated for the following credits:
child care expenses, the disability supports deduction, and the refundable medical expense
supplement. This problem has been corrected.

Version 1.15 (February 26, 2006)

 In certain cases, an overly strict data entry validation was preventing the entry of data for the T4E
slip, Statement of Employment Insurance and Other Benefits. This validation has been changed to a
warning message that can be bypassed.
 The terminology used in the interview question that asks for the entry of "unused RRSP
contributions" has been improved to make clear that this refers to RRSP contributions made in
previous years for which a deduction has not yet been claimed on a previous tax return.
 Four new Capital Cost Allowance (CCA) classes were introduced by the Canada Revenue
Agency for 2005. The interview in GenuTax has been updated to accept entries for the new CCA class
numbers 43.2, 47, 48, and 49. This applies to the interview sections that ask about income and
expenses for rental and self-employment operations.
 When an amount has been entered for "self-employment commissions" received as indicated in
box 20 of the T4A slip, a message has been added to the interview that reminds the individual to
properly report the income and expenses of the self-employment operation elsewhere in the interview.
 Content for the new Canada Revenue Agency guide RC4408, Farming Income and the CAIS
Program Harmonized Guide, has been added to the tax help file for 2005.
 The content for the Canada Revenue Agency guide RC4015, Reconciliation of Business Income
for Tax Purposes, has been updated in the tax help file for 2005.

Version 1.14 (January 12, 2006)

 This version of GenuTax includes the ability to prepare tax returns for 2005, and includes the
federal tax reductions announced on November 14, 2005.
 GenuTax is certified software for the Canada Revenue Agency's NETFILE program for 2005 tax
returns.
 There is a new "Jump to Section" button at the bottom of the interview screen. Clicking this button
will allow you to go directly to a specific section of the interview that you have already completed.
 The Print Preview function for viewing your completed tax return has been greatly improved,
allowing easier navigation from page to page.
 There is now a Program Help file that describes how to use various features of GenuTax
software. This file can be accessed from the Help menu.
 For eligible 2005 tax returns, one or more bar codes are now printed on the T1 General. If you
are mailing your paper tax return, the bar codes have been designed by the Canada Revenue Agency
to speed up processing.

Version 1.13 (April 14, 2005)

 For taxpayers aged 60 to 64, Old Age Security-related allowances are now being reported
correctly at lines 146 and 250 of the tax return.
 The labour-sponsored funds section of the interview has been clarified to make it easier to claim
the federal credit when a T5006 slip has not been received.
 The buttons for "Previous", "Next", and "Help" now display the associated shortcut key for each
function.

Version 1.12 (March 11, 2005)

 The calculation of allowable amounts for automobile leasing expenses was resulting in a claim
that was zero, or much lower than the actual allowable amount. This problem has been corrected.
 Clarifications have been made to the wording of certain topics in the interview.

Version 1.11 (February 28, 2005)

 On tax returns for a married or common-law couple, the Saskatchewan amount for dependent
children at line 5821 of form SK428 was not calculating properly. This problem has been corrected.
 On tax returns for a married or common-law couple, the claim for the allowable amount of medical
expenses for other dependants at line 5872 of the provincial or territorial 428 form was being claimed
on both returns. It will now be claimed only on the tax return where the corresponding federal claim is
being made.
 Where foreign pension income is being reported that is partially or fully exempt under a tax treaty,
the deduction at line 256 of the T1 General is now being calculated correctly.
 The interview will now also allow for the entry of amounts from a T4A(OAS) slip for taxpayers
aged 60 to 64.
 On tax returns for a married or common-law couple, you may now specify which spouse or
partner should be claiming the credits for medical expenses, if you do not wish to have GenuTax
automatically determine which claim would result in the best tax savings.
 For self-employment statements where 2004 is the final year of business, the additional business
income on form T1139 will now only be calculated where necessary.
 The percentage of partnership will now be properly printed on form T2032 and T2124, if
applicable.
 If an amount for workers' compensation benefits repaid is entered at box 77 of the T4 slip, the
corresponding deduction will now be claimed at line 229.
 Further explanatory notes have been added to the interview with respect to the clergy residence
deduction.

Version 1.10 (February 21, 2005)

 The Ontario non-refundable credit for medical expenses at line 5868 of form ON428 was not
calculating properly. This problem has been corrected.
 Near the beginning of the interview, the topic that asks about "unused RRSP contributions" has
been clarified to ensure that the amount of the "unused RRSP deduction limit" is not entered in this
topic.
 In certain situations, when one spouse or common-law partner had employment income, but the
other spouse or partner did not, the interview was not asking whether there were any employment
expenses to claim. This problem has been corrected.
 On self-employment statements, when calculating capital cost allowance (CCA) for class number
12, full-year CCA claims are now permitted for current-year additions to the class.
 In the interview, instructions for claiming the clergy residence deduction have been clarified.
 In the employment expenses section of the interview, the entry of the employer's Business
Number (BN) to support the GST/HST Rebate for Employees is no longer mandatory. This corrects a
problem where the interview appears to freeze at this interview topic.
 When claiming medical expenses, the interview now displays which 12-month claim period was
chosen for the claim.
