QUESTION 2

a. Run Spearman rho correlation and present the results in a table (complete with title and
contents)

Table 1: Result of Spearman Rho Correlation Analysis between Academic Qualification

and Participation

Variables rs ρ

Academic Qualification .288 .000

Participation .288 .000

b. Describe the nature of relationship between the two variables

There is positive and low relationship between academic performance and participation.

c. Use the 5-step procedure to test for the hypothesis at .05 level of confidence

Step 1: State the hypotheses

Ho : ρs = 0

HA : ρs ≠ 0

Step 2: Decide significance level

α = .05
Step 3: Run analysis, report rs and ρ value

rs = .288

ρ = .000
Step 4: Decision

Since the ρ value (.000) is smaller than level of significance (.05), therefore reject
Ho.

Step 5: Conclusion

There is significance relationship between academic qualification and

participation scores at .05 level of significance.

d. Prepare a write up on the results using APA presentation style

A Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation was run to determine the relationship between
academic qualification and participation scores. According to Guildford’s Rule of
Thumbs, there was a positive and low correlation between academic qualification and
participation scores which statistically significant (rs = .288, ρ = .000) at .05 level of
significance.
