COMPUTER SYSTEM SERVICING GRADE 12

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Recognize the importance and functions of straight through cable.

2. Identify the color coding of wires used in straight through LAN Cable.
3. Perform the procedure in creating straight through cable.

Now that you already know what is
straight through cable and the purpose of
this, we will have our application through
an activity. You will be creating a Straight
through cable. You will read the
procedure and safety precaution in
creating straight through cable.
Direction:
Students will create straight through cable using
T568B color coding arrangement, by following
the steps in creating Straight through cable.

UTP cable, RJ 45, wire stripper, crimping tool and
LAN tester.

precautions)
Safety Precaution:
1. Avoid horse playing
2. Use the proper tool
3. Always be on task
4. Be vigilant
Procedure:
1. Strip off suitable length of the cable
sheath.
2. Sort wires by insulation colors.
3. Align the colored wires according to the
specific order.
4. Trim all the wires to the same length.
5. Insert the wires into RJ45 plug.
6. Maintain wire order, left to right, with
RJ45 tab facing downward.
7. Crimp the RJ45 plug with the crimping
tool.
8. Verify the order of the wires is correct
making good contact with the metal
contacts in the RJ45 plug.
9. Repeat all the steps in creating the other
end of the cable.
10. Test the cable using the LAN tester.
 (Provided with the necessary tools and materials.
Students will perform actual procedure in
creating Straight through cable.)
g. Generalization

LAN Cabling is the process of creating a

LAN Cable which is used in
interconnecting computers. There are two
types of LAN Cable, the Cross over and Dire ak nakaka you know hin nga
Straight through. Straight through is used generalization HAHAHA
to connect many computers with the use
of hub. There are several tools and
materials used in LAN Cabling like UTP
cable, crimping tool, wire stripper and the
LAN tester.

Student’s performances will be evaluated/rated using the Performance Rubrics.

(The teacher will explain how the performances will be assessed through scoring rubrics.)
