Texto dissertativo-expositivo
A seguinte estrutura-padrão, é geralmente utilizada:
Children should not be allowed to watch too much TV. Today with parents
out of the household for longer periods it is very difficult to restrict children
to be in front of a TV screen for hours. This can result in a serious threat to
kids’ health, specially preschoolers. According to the American Academy of
Pediatrics around 15,000 children suffer from neurological problems caused
by TV. Last year it was reported a case of a five-year old boy that fainted while
watching his favorite cartoon.
Relação de causa e efeito: today with parents out of the household for longer
periods it is very difficult to restrict children to be in front of a TV screen for hours.
This can result in a serious threat to kids’ health, especially preschoolers.
Exemplificação: Last year it was reported a case of a five-year old boy that
fainted while watching his favorite cartoon.

Exemplo
Friendship
(1) A dictionary contains a definition of friendship somewhere in the F’s
between the words “fear” and “Friday.” An encyclopedia supplies interesting
facts on friendship. But all the definitions and facts do not convey what
friendship is really all about. The only way to understand friendship is
through experience. It is an experience that involves all the senses.
(2) Friendship can be seen. It is seen in an old couple sitting in the park
holding hands. It is the way they touch, a touch as light as a leaf floating in the
autumn air, a touch so strong that years of living could not pull them apart.
(3) Friendship can be heard. It is heard in the words of two friends who
squeezed in lunch together on an extremely busy day. Friendship can be
heard by those willing to listen.
(5) Friendship has a taste. It tastes like homemade bread, the ingredients
all measured and planned, then carefully mixed and kneaded, then the quiet
waiting as the dough rises. Hot from the oven, the bread tastes more than
the sum of its ingredients.
(6) Friendship has a smell. It smells like the slightly burnt cookies your
brother made especially for you. It smells like your home when stepping into
it after being away for a long time.

Escrevendo um parágrafo
dissertativo-expositivo
O parágrafo dissertativo-expositivo deve possuir a estrutura padrão de de-
senvolvimento de parágrafos, ou seja:

Texto dissertativo-argumentativo
mentos e as estratégias argumentativas.

Contra-argumentos (opcional)

Argumento 1 - Many people in the world live in towns, villages and even cities that do
not have good buses or trains. Without cars these people could not travel
to work, to the shops or do many other important things.
- Also, in many towns and cities buses stop before midnight but in today’s
busy world people are busy twenty four hours a day.
Argumento 2 The next point is that cars help the economy in two ways. Firstly, the
car industry gives many people in the world jobs and helps countries to
develop. Secondly, many people today need cars in their work. Doctors
need to visit patients, salespeople need to visit customers and computer
technicians need to visit businesses.

Texto complementar
What is an opinion?
Facts are often used in conjunction with research and study. The census (a
survey of the population usually conducted by a government department)
is a good example of when facts are used. These facts can be supported
by information collected in the census, e.g. According to UK Government
national statistics in 2004, approximately one in five people in the UK were
aged under 16.
Writers often mix fact and opinion. So it is not always easy to tell whether
something is based on verifiable information or someone’s particular
viewpoint. For this reason, it is important to read with a questioning mind.
Just because someone says something is true – it doesn’t mean it is true?
What do you think?

Here is the first part of an article from the BBC’s news website. Look at how
the article starts out using facts, then moves on to using opinions. The facts
are highlighted in bold and the opinions are in italics. The facts are taken
from a survey which can be verified. The opinions are taken from comments
made by various people such as journalists and writers. They express the
viewpoint of that particular person.
Analysts said self-help and aspirational reading could explain India’s high
figures.
Britons and Americans scored 50% lower than the Indians’ hours and
Japanese and Koreans were even lower at 4.1 and 3.1 hours respectively.
R Sriram, chief executive officer of Crosswords Bookstores, a chain of
26 book shops around India, says Indians are extremely entrepreneurial and
reading “is a fundamental part of their being”.
The NOP survey of 30,000 consumers aged over 13 saw China and the
Philippines take second and third place respectively in average hours a
week spent reading books, newspapers and magazines.
Dicas de estudo
Recomendo, como dica, o livro O Texto de João Hilton Sayeg Siqueira. Embora

Tese + Explicação The media has been discussing the quality of food that we
eat. Usually governmental authorities and food makers
are blamed. Actually, if we think, we are also responsible
since sometimes we opt for price and convenience over
nutritional value.
