Experiment Project

Question: What type of water affects the growth of pea plants the best?
Rationale: This will help plant growers because if one type of water is better than the other,
planters should grow plants with the better water, so the plants will grow faster. Also, people
will get more peas, so they can eat them.
What we know from our research: Distilled water has no bad things but has no
sodium so the plant will grow normally. Tap water kills microbes in the soil so the plant
won’t grow well. Mineral water will make the plant grow bigger because it gives the
plants more minerals, so it will grow faster and make the plants grow better.
Checklist:
• Saltwater
• Mineral water👍
• Spring water
• Tap water 👍
• Distilled water👍

Our Hypothesis: Springwater will be the best for the plants. Tap water or distilled water
will be the worst for plants.

Materials: cups, soil, marvel peas, distilled water, tap water, spring water, mineral
water, and sea salt water.
Steps of our experiment:
1.) Get 12 cups.
2.) Fill 6 of the cups with ½ of a cup with seeding mix.
3.) Put 40ml of one type of water in the cup.
4.) Mix the water in.
5.) Dig a small hole the size of a fingertip.
6.) Put the seed in.
7.) Add 10 more ml of that type of water.
8.) Put another cup on top and tape it on.
9.) Repeat for all the types of water.
10.) Wait 5 days.
11.) take the seed out and measure the length of the plant.
12.) See the results.

DAY 1 we did salt water and tap water today we put seedling soil mix in are plants we put 10 ml of water
in our pea plant. 10/10/18

Moe day 1:

10/17/18 we did sparkling water and spring water, and we switched the water to 30ml.

10/17/18 Day: 7 tap and salt waters haven't grown yet. Burt they will grow bigger eventually because at
first, we only added 20ml, but we were supposed to add 30ml.

10/19/18 another Day 1: we did distilled water today and we forgot that we ordered it. So, we were
surprised when we got it from carolina.com. We had a little bit of problems when Rishin put in too much
water. We had to restart because somebody (AKA: Sofia P.) didn’t burry the seeds all the way so that’s
why we had to restart. We also didn't put enough water. We redid salt water, spring water, tap water, &
distilled water today.

Day 5: 10/24/18 none of the plants have grown yet and we are having no progress with growing today.
We are behind because none of the plants were growing. SPOILER ALERT: THE TAP WATER GREW!!! The
tap water has a tiny sprout, so the tap water works the best with the seeds, the distilled water grew too
but the tap water has still grown more!

Results: The tap water grew the most, so the tap water is in first place with 3.21 cm, then distilled water
with 1.58, then mineral water with 0.96, then spring with 0.91, then sea salt with 0.87cm.

Names of experts we contacted:

Conclusion: Based on our results, the tap water grew the best. This will be good for the
gardeners because then, instead of mineral water or distilled water, or etc, the
gardeners will use tap water to help the plants grow faster tap water isn also cheap and
you can just get it from your house.. This is helpful for people who grow plants and
especially pea plant growers. Our hypothesis was that spring water would be the best
and that tap, and distilled water would be the worst. We were completely wrong
because tap and distilled were the best and spring water was 3rd.
