.Introduction to the Problem.
There has been a big rise is in bullying within our communities, but we

haven't been able to find the cause of the issue or a working solution to the

problem. The reason behind these issues is because of social media technology,

which makes the harassment unrelentless and super easy.

Since cyberbullying has become so prominent, kids don’t have a chance to get

away from the torment, and how it allows for the bullying to start small and then

grow like wildfire. This has become such a big problem that parents, school faculty,

and government officials have been fighting to find a happy medium between

limiting social media’s effects on bullying because in most social media platforms

they have very loose rules and restrictions that makes cyberbullying easy.

We often don’t understand the magnitude and complexity of bullying. For

example, bullying can come in so many different forms such as physical, verbal, and

sexual harassment and they can all be used in person and over social media. All of

them in any way are effective and cause a lot of physical and emotional damage.

Ron Banks best describes this when he elaborates on how gender plays a big role in

the type of bullying happening. “Boys typically engage in direct bullying

methods”(Banks 2). When Banks says direct bullying he means that there is more

physical and in person bullying, other than gossip and rumors which is indirect

bullying .With this big of a sensitive issue, we need to unite and follow the steps

within this research paper to put up a fight against bullying and bring it to an end.
What Is Bullying?
There are many forms of Bullying that many people may not be aware of;

Bullying is a form of unwanted aggressive behavior that can happen to anyone.

Cyberbullying is a form of bullying as well as physical and emotional assault. For the

behaviors connected to bullying to be considered bullying there is often a

repetition of the behavior at hand.

According to StopBullying.gov, there are three types of bullying.

Types of Bullying
Verbal Bullying: Saying or writing mean things. Such as teasing, name calling,

inappropriate comments, and taunting or causing harm verbally.

Social Bullying: Involves hurting someone’s reputation or relationships. Leaving

someone out on purpose.Telling others not to be friends with someone.Spreading

rumors about someone.Embarrassing someone in public

Physical bullying:Involves hurting a person’s body or possessions.

Hitting/kicking/pinching,Spitting,Tripping/pushing. Taking or breaking someone’s
things as well as Making mean or rude hand gestures.

Relational Bullying: When someone is left out of activities by their own friends
and other social circles as well. Often this occurs quietly and between friends and
groups.

Cyberbullying:Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over the internet and on
digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur
through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media. It includes sending, posting,
or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean content about someone else. This can
include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing
embarrassment or humiliation. Some cyberbullying can have very negative
consequences.

Sexual Bullying: Includes behavior such as: making sexual jokes and comments, or
gestures to someone, spreading sexual rumors (in person, by text, or online),writing
sexual messages about people ,showing someone inappropriate sexual pictures or
videos, asking someone to send you naked pictures of herself or himself “nudes”,
posting sexual comments, pictures, or videos on social networks, or sending explicit
text messages, making sexual comments or offers while pretending to be someone
else online, touching, grabbing, or pinching someone in a deliberately sexual way,
pulling at someone's clothing and brushing up against them in a purposefully sexual
way.

Student Viewpoints
Based on students at El Dorado High School that our group asked about bullying,
the opinion on it was in majority the same.
Have you ever been bullied?

11 out of 26 students have been bullied.

Have you ever bullied anyone?

7 out of 26 students bullied other people during their high school years

Have you ever seen someone get bullied, if so what did you do?

All the students I talk to in class they all said YES they have seen someone get
bullied but never did anything to help them. They were bystanders. They said they
would be scared that if they step up that they would get bullied as well.

What should you do if you see bullied?

Don’t be a Bystander, stop and get a teacher, report, help others and stand up.

How to Respond to Being Bullied, Or

Observe Someone Being Bullied

If you are being bullied through social media or in person
regularly, find a trusted friend or adult that can be by your side
while you deal with bullying. With your trusted companion,
tell a school administrator that can properly handle the
situation and hopefully bring and end to the harassment.

If you respond in the moment or at the exact time of being
bullied, try if possible to remain cool and collected. A student
interviewed by Kowalski for the article“ How to Handle a Bully”
said, “ Escalating the situation too often leads to violence”
(Kowalski 11). If you handle the situation calmly without
escalation, the bully doesn’t get the satisfaction of getting to
you and causing you to get upset with what they say or do to
you.

Don’t isolate yourself and don’t let yourself be overcome by
rumors and actions the bully does to you. It can be very hard to
not let the bully into your head and it may seem that you’re all
alone. Stay strong and appear strong so it seems like you’re
beyond pain and rumors that the bully causes.

Conclusion
If we follow these steps, we can learn to fight back against the

relentless attacks of bullies around the world. We can do this just by

bringing much more awareness to the situation and allow other

people to learn about the problem and find a solution as a whole. We

can’t defeat the issue without teaming up and facing the problem as

a group. But we have to remember, handling the issue doesn’t mean

just punishing the bully, it means finding the reason why they are

lashing out at others and causing such a huge problem. Bullies can

very well be vulnerable just like their victims, which is why we all
need to come together and be there for people when they are low and

stop bullying directly at the source. Bullying can be slowed down

tremendously if we follow these tools and examples, we can change

peoples life and possibly prevent someone from losing theirs.
