Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Time line fun

Objectives:
Students will be able to create their own digital timeline using Visme.com
Students will be able to identify when an event to took place by looking at a time line
State Standards:
4th grade deconstruction skills-P: Periodization-

To demonstrate their ability to think in terms of periodization, students should: identify and
understand time periods using units of time (e.g., decades, half-centuries, and centuries). Organize
major historical events chronologically. Evaluate a historical narrative to identify its components. Create
a historical narrative to summarize major developments within a given time period

Context: I am teaching this lesson because timelines are a great way to see when certain events
happened and how the timing of one event might affect the other. Before the Periodization
standard is introduced, the standard on Causation is given which has to do with why certain
events happen and their short term and long term affects. Students can bring their previous
knowledge regarding by understanding when a particular historical events happened. After
Periodization is introduced, the standard on Context is given. I am going to discuss how when we
look at a time line, we can start to understand how one event might lead to another.
Data: I will group the students together with one partner based on the time of history they are
given to search. I will give each group a decade to research. This will allow for me to have the
students work together and cover more events.
Materials: Ipad of computers to research events, Visme website to make timeline, paper,
pencils, and markers to draw their timeline draft

Procedures:
Introduction 15- minutes): I will first begin by describing the concept of a timeline, I will
give an example using when the students were born, that was the start of their time line, and as
life continues, more events are added in a specific order that ultimately shows the major events
that happened throughout their lives. The same goes for a historical timeline. I will give
examples of what timelines can look like, and examples of a completed timeline of some
historical events.
Teacher Directed (15 minutes): During this portion of time I will work with students to
discuss if they believe some of the events they are researching are directly related to each other
and how certain events might affect one another. I will also be able to help answer any questions
the students might have about their timelines.

Collaborative (15 minutes): The students will use this time to discuss with their partner
about the events they found in their 10 year time span and decide which events they want to put
on their timeline and start working on creating their digital timeline on Visme.com

Independent Digital (15 minutes): The students will use their Ipad to do independently do
research their assigned decade using Googles, Safe Search Kids they will write down their
findings to use later when they make their digital timeline

Closure (15minutes): I will have each group present their timelines to the class and
discuss why they choose the events they did and any other related findings.

Rationale:
I used the students use Safe Search Kids powered by Google to find the events they will
use on their timeline. I chose this because it gives the students the freedom to use the
internet to find out information, however it protects them from potential graphic things
that could be found just using regular google I know this took is high qualilty because it
is backed by google.

The second multimedia tool I used was Visme.com. This is an online site that helps you
create digital timelines. I used this website because it a free, reputable website that the
students can use later on in their schooling years.
